The8thDeadlySinParticipantIm sure that I’ll get bashed for this but IMO, this is the best thing for the Nets to do in order to win a championship in the next 5 years.. They should dodge Favors and Cousins and go for Monroe… Im not saying take him at 3, which they could do, but I think they should trade down.. IDK with who but they should try to get a good role player and a pick that is a little later.. To me, big men are the key to championships in the NBA. With Monroe, the Nets would have the perfect compliment to Lopez in the post.. Monroe is a high post/short corner guy while Lopez is a low post player..
This would leave them with a 7′ center, a 6’11 power forward, and a 7′ backup power forward.. These 2 guys can be the Gasol/Bynum combo but better within 4 years.. Yi can be a serviceable backup because he throws something different at teams when he is in.. He can slide Monroe to the center position for spot minutes and allow the Nets to play 4 out and 1 in with Yi on the outside and Monroe/Lopez on the inside..
If they traded down with the Warriors they could get a role player with an expiring contract so that the Warriors could snag Johnson if they want him or take Favors.. This would leave the Nets with a 9 man rotation that would be similar to this:
PG: Harris
SG: Lee
SF: Williams
PF: Monroe
C: Lopez
6th: CDR
7th: Yi
8th: Hayse
9th: Dooling or Rotation Player from Warriors..If they are going to win a Championship in 5 years, they need to develop Williams to be a triple-double threat and a lock down defender.. Also, they need a different PG because no offense to Harris but he isnt a championship PG… Keep developing Lopez and Monroe and you have a huge, versatile front line for years to come…

Mr.Knick 32ParticipantFrom what I heard, Courtney Lee wants out and either he or Devin Harris will be traded.

JNixonParticipantGreat idea.
I don’t think Derrick Favors will make the Nets better. I don’t think Favors will be a great offensive player, and I don’t think his defense will be that good to be a perfect complimentary to Lopez either. I like the Pau and Bynum comparison as well for Monroe and Brook too. I want them to pick Monroe, but it’s sadly a longshot to happen. They’re going to go with Favors, and I have my doubts about Favors being a better pro than Monroe.

JNixonParticipantI hope Lee leaves. Leaves more room for Terrence Williams (my 2nd favorite player) and CDR to play and develop. Lee isn’t that good to me anyway.

SpencerIsHawesome2ParticipantIt makes sense, but I don’t know if the Warriors/Kings/T’Wolves would offer very much to move up.. If the Nets covet Monroe more than the other bigs, then they may just have to take him at 3

BothTeamsPlayedHardParticipantI don’t think there is a player on the Warriors roster who gets anyone significantly closer to a title, but that is besides the point. The demand for dealing up to #3 is not going to be that great because the clear differences in the pro potential of Favors, Cousins, and Monroe just is not that great. If you watch the Lakers bigs, you see the value in players like Monroe. People can question the toughness of Odom and Gasol all they want, but they have two rings. When you watch the Celtics, you can see that teams can win with very emotional players who have been called head cases, so long as they have talent and desire. Favors is much less polished, but is also all of 18 years old. If I was Golden State at 6, I would not be sweating being at #6. If the rumors that Detroit likes Aminu are legitimate, then they probably won’t worry about staying at #7 all that much either. I’m sure Dumars would have loved to move up to get Turner, but unless Philly does something foolish like pass on Turner at #2 I don’t see crazy value in dealing #3. Also, I’m sure New Jersey wouldn’t want to deal the pick if Turner was a possibility.

bobbybParticipanttotally agree, only i think D Harris is fine if you want to go with Monroe and run a “Triangle” or similar offense. There is no better ( for the money) in the league than Harris by far. Also Lopez and Harris are just starting to mesh and it would be stupid to bring another guy in unless it was a no- brianer deal like,(e.g. CP3 NO salary dump) which i doubt will happen

sacphil_08ParticipantThats something to think about. It could be great for new jersey because with avery johnson as the new head coach i think he’ll be able to get the absolute best out of whomever new jersey drafts. This would make me VERY happy because then that means minnesota would draft favors leaving cousins to us. Wishful thinking…

memphisgriz731ParticipantThis is one of the best threads i’ve seen. I’m a believer in Monroe and the Nets are the perfect fit for him. Hes an excellent passer and a good mid range shooter who could stretch the D and give Lopez more 1on1 opportunities where he can dominate.
Great post deadlysin

Dubs30ParticipantSwapping picks would benefit both NJ and GS. GS was the worst rebounding team last year, so they could use Favors’ muscle and presence. But, how would they pull it off? GS wouldn’t do Randolph + pick 6. New Jersey wouldn’t do Randolph for the pick straight up. How about pick 2 for pick 6, and next year’s 1st rounder?

BiggysmallsParticipantI’ve said all along that I think Greg Monroe will be one of the top 3 players in this draft. He’s got just as much “potential” as anybody, but he’s also already pretty pro ready. He and Lopez would be a fantastic front line. Monroe is a great passer and a better high post player, while Lopez can play on the low block and go 1 on 1. Unfortunatley like Iggy said, 90% chance they take Favors, which I personally think is a mistake, but ppl think he’s the real deal so we’ll see.
Throw in the amount of money they have that can net them a top flight Free Agent and the Nets are honestly in better position than alot of teams. Even though they had the worst record, there should be alot of optimism in New Jersey.

The Scare Crow ReturnsParticipantSign Dirk Nowitski and run a triangle styled offense they could become the Lakers of the East…Minus a great 2 guard(and they have 3 young 2 guards to make up for one great shooting guard)…I believe they’d have enough to Sign Joe Johnson and then just Trade Lee and CDR….The Nets would be strong line up…
Harris, J. Johnson,T. Williams, Dirk Diggler, B Lopez, Monroe….The Bench…Yi and Others….
That’s a Lakers clone to me….Minus Kobe being Kobe …
Think about It…Harris is better than Fisher…Williams can be better than Artest…Monroe can be like Odom…Brooke will be like Bynum and Dirk is better than Pau…Joe Johnson just plays the role that Kobe plays ,…The Dream for NJ would be signing D.Wade and Dirk….They very well can0 - Posted on: Sat, 06/19/2010 - 9:32am #335475

Mr.Knick 32ParticipantYou must have 100 trades for all 30 teams lol

HROT88ParticipantMakes too much sense to actually happen. The hype dictates the early picks.

The8thDeadlySinParticipantThanks for all the positive responses…
Why does ScareCrow try to turn every thread into a trade idea?? You know when something goes down he is going to make the “I Told You So” post because one of his 1000 trade ideas came true…
I have never been very high on Favors and people who will remember, know that.. I even compare him to a better version of Stromile Swift… Thats not much IMO..

ball4life66ParticipantDisagree with this. They should take Favors. He will have more immediate impact than people think and has big time potential.
