piratejpParticipantThanks for updating the website’s mock Aran!
Have to disagree with the Kings pick though. A week ago I would have agreed the Kings might take Monroe over Cousins, but not now. If he’s there, I’m convinced they’ll take him – there’s just too much upside to pass on.
They know the risk, but they are well positioned to help mentor and nurture this kid, having had some “handle with care” and/or immature players recently that they mostly did a good job with. See Artest, Ron; Greene, Donte. They’ve got a young, but cohesive, locker room that will be a good environment for this guy. I also expect them to bring in a vet somehow to help be that stabilizing guy for the youngsters to look up to/emulate. He can’t get into too much trouble in Sac (unless he and Tyreke start up a drag-racing circuit), and would perfectly fill the team’s biggest hole. Plus Petrie is notorious for taking the guy who wowed at workouts, which Cousins did. He was the better player during the season, and he was the better player in workouts. I’d bet money on it, Cousins is the guy at 5 (if not sooner), and if he’s a King they’ll have a legit shot at having back-to-back ROYs.
Thanks again for updating the mock & giving those of us who care way too much about this a place to congregate.

Leftovers16ParticipantFosho bro Kings would love him let’s hope no team plays the spoiler… I’m trying to think of ways the Nets or Twolves wouldn’t pick him becuase he can help the out too… If we do get him they better not be turning 80 into a drag strip LOL… If we can get Hedo because he wanted to come back to Sac we can really open up other options

Aran SmithKeymasterPirate –
Glad you enjoy the site. I think it all depends on how Cousins did in the combine interviews, and what team psychologists think. There is no question he is more talented than Monroe. But Monroe is a much more solid individual. The Kings videos on youtube were intersting seeing Cousins and Favors speak and Monroe shoot and move. Monroe’s lack of ups and foot speed is a concern but he shot very well. Favors looked a lot better being interviewed. It’s still up in the air. There’s always the chance someone moves up for one of those guys too.

piratejpParticipantIt seems like the most likely way Cousins doesn’t make it to 5 is if that MIN-PHI trade we’ve been hearing about all along happens. If that happens, Kings take Monroe – which I have no problem with at all. I really like Monroe, I just think Cousins is better and would just bring something the Kings don’t have and really need.
I agree he’s a bit of a meathead, but in my mind he’s more young Kenyon Martin meathead than Oliver Miller. Plus, I think hearing some of what’s been said and written, and then seeing (supposedly) less talented players come off the board ahead of him might really help motivate him. Plus, the Kings would go into it with eyes wide open, so if they fail to give this guy the support that he’ll need, they’ll have no one to blame but themselves. But in the end, I think most of it is that he’s still just a kid – I was an idiot at that age, as are 95% of guys. He’ll be fine once he learns how to (mostly) conduct himself like a professional.
Either way I like the direction the Kings are heading – they just can’t afford to pass on talent no matter what the off-court concern might be (within reason) is all I’m saying.
