Its sad that this is like the 3rd year in a row that i didnt even know about the WNBA draft coming on. You would think that with all the attention UCONN got this year they would atleast move it to espn instead of espn2

Yeah I’m a basketball fan. Not just NBA of NCAA but all out everything basketball fan. I’ve been to quite a few Minnesota Lynx games and plan on going to a few this year also. But they are really having a hard time getting the exposure that is needed to progress in this business.

I used to watch the WNBA when it first started but since a lil before the recession it seems like they are not promoting the women’s game much anymore. I know at least 25 players but most are from back in the day. Does Tina Thompson and Sheryle Swoopes still play in that league

I never watch the WNBA, but I did watch some of the UCONN and Baylor games this year. I’m really intrigued by that Griner girl at Baylor. I think her play is very impressive so I had to watch that. Then UCONN is the most dominant sports program that I PERSONALLY have ever seen. There may have been better, but not since I have been up n out of the crib.

I’m a little upset that Ashley Barlow from Notre Dame wasn’t drafted. It’s hard for me to believe that she’s not one of the 36 best seniors in college basketball. Hopefully the Fever invite her to training camp. It’ll be nice to see her on her hometown squad.

According to this link, eligible candidates for the WNBA draft have to be at least 22, have completed their college eligibility, have graduated from a four-year college, or are four years removed from high school. I guess they value education more than the NBA does.

Another sad thing is if i ask my friends to name 5 wnba players they cant i b suprise if they name 2.

Lisa Leslie doesn’t even play anymore…. does she?

They make about $50,000 a year.

They should make it so players can play in the ncaa, and the wnba at the same time their different time of year.

This is correct they only adverage $50.000 per year, but they only play a few months and in defense, the WNBA can’t pay them much more because the revenue earned at the games are minium. Like I said I’ve been to a few Minnesota Lynx games and you can almost count the total fans in attendance. But these women also have a second job, playing overseas where the real money come in for them. I think once we get over the concept that basketball is only fun if men are playing they won’t have to make their living in other countries.

My theory is even the excetives of the WNBA doesn’t seem to think the league will be around for a long period of time, and want to make sure the women get their College degrees first. That’s the only reason I can see them “making” the young ladies stay in college for four years. This is good for the long term as far as the players futures go, but I think they are making a mistake for not letting Mya Moore, Brittney Griner and Elana Delle Donne join now and bring more excitment into the league. The WNBA is a summer time league and the girls can even go to college in the fall like every other college student. So why not let them do both? Of course they wouldn’t be able to play for their college teams if they allow this but it would still work for both sides.
