He’ll have a similar role to the one Cousins plays this year right? How good does anyone who’s seen him play think he can be?

Kanter is one the most powerful player among european prospects. He always destroyed competition in Euro youth championship and that was the case in last summer U18 where he averaged 19pts 15rbds (sic). He is more polished than Cousins and played very high competition in those Euro championships which are not comparable to HS school basketball. A potential one and done for the Cats.

    llperez22, as usual, excellent comments.

I like what I’ve read about him because he’s apparently an outstanding rebounder and I love guys who do that. It also appears as if he’s still only 17 years old so any assessments or ratings at that age are probably premature anyway.

When I read about so called phenoms like him who are white, I always wonder if they are truly good or is it yet another example of an over hyped player. You know how I feel about that.

only thing i now about Enes is that he was better last summer in championship than my country guy Jonas Valanciunas, and while Jonas is huge in Lithuania’s basketball league(started season in one team no with other, euroleague caliber one) and DX.com has him as #3 i pretty much believe Kanter is amazing prospect too.

100 to 150 hs player, are you kidding me?? Kanter is a very tough player who trained with Euroleague players for a year. He dominated in youth competition like rarely someone did it, and I’m the first to criticize overhyped (white) players, but Kanter is a beast at 6-10 250 and more a top 10 than a top 150 HS player. You’ll see by yourself in less than year.

i just went and looked up that scouting report, it’s by Scouts,Inc. That is the group that ESPN uses to cover their highschool recruiting. According to Scouts, Inc., Enes Kanter is the 125th ranked overall prospect from the 2010 class and the 9th center. Again, i haven’t seem him play and i have no idea how good he is. But i just found it surprising that a guy who is considered such a big time prospect by many is not ranked top 100 according a pretty high profile scouting service.

khoss ive seen him play one game and he is good but in no way is he a top 10 guy. he’s also not more polished then cousins and the young euro comp would be dominated by many of the top 100 highschool player sin the state he is a top 100 player though but dont expect him to come in and do what cousins is doing.

This is a underrated move. He could go top 5 in 2011.

The potential lineup would be amazing if they added Leslie and Knight.

orton would go second round if he goes but it wouldnt be a wise decision. im pretty sure coach cal will tell him as much. he’s been known to tell a player to go when they are ready unlike other coaches because he always reloads

Don’t be so sure of that QUINCEY. ESPN’s Chad Ford said today that a couple of GM’s told him that they had Orton in the lottery and both liked him better than Aldridge. It’s starting to look very possible that UK has 5 guys in the lottery this year.

yeah alot of those same ones say that all the time and a player ends up slipping. its possible that he can go late first because of his potential and defense. that would depend on whos picking. i wouldnt be suprised if one of the top teams pick him up. but i wont believe lotto untill that happens. uk wont have 5 guys in the lotto. patterson, cousins, wall yeah . i doubt bledsoe goes lotto since he hasnt run a lick of pg and turns the ball over alot. right now he’s not better then chalmers except chalmers had proven his pg abilities.

Orton would go in the 20’s because he’s a big. Even if it takes 2 seasons, alot of teams can use a big man.

I would say Orton should come back and play with Kanter.

Orton needs to return. I could see him leaving too early and ending up in a sticky situation like another Kentcuky Wildcat and offensively challenged player/robot……The Great Randolph Morris.

Orton definitely needs to come back to UK next year to refine his offensive game and learn how to play defense without fouling. With that said, if he really has worked himself into potential lottery discussion, or at least in the Top 20 range, I feel he is gone. He’s already been through one major knee surgery that cost him basically all of his SR year of high school.

I don’t think they will grab all three of Knight, Leslie, and Jones maybe two but they wont grab all three. Knight is 50/50 between them and Florida. I thought Leslie was a lock for UK until a few weeks ago but now I think NC State has a good shot at him. And Jones I don’t know much about. But I don’t think they will get both Jones and Leslie.

i never doubt coach cal.. he grabbed wall cousins and bledsoe and ortan. and if he was at memphis he would have grabbed henry as well. so i doubt getting those three will be harder. sometimes theres a reason plaqyers wait to sign and that reason is they are waiting to see what players leave which ones stay and what college some other players will sign with

Florida has dropped out of the race for Knight. Pretty sure they know, perhaps had even been told that Knight was going to UK. At least that has been the recent scuttlebutt from a UK insider that I trust very much. In other words, it’s Florida’s way of trying to publicly save face, even though Knight really said no to them. He’s UK bound.

i haven’t seen him play. But a scouting report i read that was last updated in february had him listed between 100-150 of the top hs seniors coming out this year. Surprised that a guy considered a one and done type wouldn’t make the top 100 recruits list.

-edit- i find the negatives interesting. I gave zero opinion about kanter and said that i have never seen him. Just pointed that he is not ranked top 100 on a credible recruiting site I read and I find that odd. Apparently people don’t agree with something about that.

Just read an article on rivals–who has him as a 5-star, just hasn’t been around since the last rankings came out–that proclaimed him to be a surefire top-25 when the next rankings come out, no way he is anywhere close to 100, let alone 125, by most recruiting databases that is.

Anyone really know how big this kid is?

I read that he was 6-9 240lbs (2008 sites) and then wiki has him at 6-10 265lbs. Some of the UK message boards are reporting that he is now closer to 7 feet tall.

Rock_Cat 78, we must have the same inside source, because I also heard Florida dropped Knight.

As far as Orton goes. Don’t compare him to Morris. Morris was lazy and only got by in college because he was blessed with enough talent and size. Orton, as we all know, is a shot blocking machine. His offense still needs some work and his decision making at times is pretty bad, but he has a pretty high ceiling and would be a great pick in the 20’s.

He has been on the record of late saying that he is considering the NBA. He was promised a starting spot (pre-Calipari) and really feels he didn’t get the PT he deserved throughout the year. Of course, having Cousins and Patterson, and fouling out of games after playing just 10 minutes will limit your playing time.

If I’m Bledsoe or Orton, I’m declaring for the draft. You can always withdraw.

I’m sure most of these ranking sites are waiting for him to play against some real competition. Preferably some American players. After the Nike Hoop Summit he should be pretty high on those lists.

they are comparable. morries had better footwork while orton was a better shot blocker. both are big both played for uk. and as far as laziness ive seen games where he didnt sprint hard down the floor or half way went through a play just like morris. i dont know why he did just like morris so i cant say either is lazy and no one on here can either unless they coached either guy.

as far as declaring why waste it this year because you only get one time to come back. its not a given that they have a great year next year so if they declared this year and came back then did it again next year there is no coming back

I actually saw Kanter play 3 times. Here’s what I seen:

Good spacing. I think alot of people will be surprised with his passing.

Strong Rebounder. He might lead the NCAA in rebounding. He has a great nose for the ball.

Very Polished. He will impress scouts alot. He can get 8-15 points easy with ease.

If they don’t have a great year next year, then don’t enter next year.

I have seen more intensity out of Orton this year than I ever saw out of Morris during his entire tenure at UK. Morris also didn’t have other big guys taking any offense away (unless you think Obrzut was a threat), so he had plenty of opportunities to score.

Orton has had limited minutes all year, so it is easy for us to say, myself included, that he needs to work on his offensive game. We just haven’t seen him on the court enough. Coach Cal has even stated that Orton has a nice 15-18 ft jumper and can even knock down some threes. I guess that explains that three point shot he took against Tennessee late in the game when UK lost @ UT.

I think Orton is just testing the waters. Chad Forde is saying that 2 GMs have Orton in the lottery this year, but Orton isn’t going to leave this year. He wants to pull a Blake Griffin and come back to possibly be the #1 overall pick. Orton’s throwing his name in for feedback on what he needs to work on. That’s it…. if he is in the lottery now as a reserve… he wants to be #1 next year and it isn’t that unrealistic. If he continues to grow and can improve big time at the offensive end, why can’t he be #1 overall? The kid is a beast and as a starter next year, he could really dominate if he takes a fundamental leap this summer.

he will not lead the ncaa in rebounding..wont even be close. he wont lead his conference in rebounding and will be lucky to lead his team in rebounding. the ncaa is alot different then playing against euro guys his own age who (most) wouldnt start on a top highschool team

I never said he WILL lead the NCAA in rebounding. He might. Plus, how do you know? Did you know Evan Turner would average 10 boards a game this year? NO

When I saw him play against legit talent ( he played in a professional league with MEN), he held his own and honestly had double digit rebounding games every game. He was 15 then.

European MEN, my man. European Men.
