valentineOklahoma had a terribly disappointing season, finishing with a 13-18 record despite a young, talented coach (Jeff Capel), THREE Mickey d’s all americans, and being a preseason top 20 team, and according to the sporting news magazine, the NATIONAL preseason player of the year (Willie Warren). The offseason hasn’t exactly started off great either, as Willie Warren is expected to go pro, rumors have surfaced that Keith “Tiny” Gallon received improper benefits, putting the rest of his OU career in jeopardy, and news that Tommy Mason-Griffin is leaving the program. So with the possibility of all three all americans not returning, i was wondering, how bad do you guys think OU will be next year. Also, Do you guys think Warren is going pro, and do you think Tiny Gallon and Mason- Griffin are transferring or will they declare as well?

JNixonParticipantWOW….I hope Tommy-Mason-Griffin isn’t leaving the program to leave for the draft. That would be a mistake. He’s nowhere near ready and he wouldn’t be a 1st round pick. Had no idea he wanted out.
This season was a disaster for OU. All of their players had different agendas besides winning and even with a coach like Coach Capel, that’s going to be hard to overcome when players have people yelling in their ear about how good they are and really don’t give a damn about the ultimate goal, winning games. I think all 3 of them leaving is best for OU, but I don’t think any of them is ready for the NBA, even though I do think Willie Warren can be a rotation player in the NBA right now (he can be much better than merely that though…very offensively gifted).
Next year is going to be a rebuilding year though, but they do have a decent recruiting class that isn’t full of selfish guys so that’s a good sign for the future.

midwestbbscoutParticipantI am not convinced of Jeff Capel being such a good coach…..he’s had elite talent from the jump at Oklahoma and it never reaches its potential….they probably had the most talented team last year but not even a final 4…..

BiggysmallsParticipantin his defense, They played UNC in the elite 8 and came the closest to beating them than any other team in the tourney. They would have gone final 4 in any other sub bracket no doubt.
They did suck this year though. Warren underachieved big time. Mason Griffin is a little overrated. Yeah he scores alot, but his shooting percentage is bad, and he is turnover prone…thats to be expected from a Freshman though. Tiny Gallon was also disapointing, the guy just seems disinterested. He reminds me of Derrick Character a little bit wiht overall skill set and court demeanor early on. I wouldnt be at all suprised to see them both transfer somewhere.
It will be interesting to see if and where they both do decide to go, becausen neither one will be great NBA prospects, but btoh could be really good college players.

midwestbbscoutParticipantI’ve heard the Caracter comparison on him and Renardo Sidney….I went to an Oak Hill game last year where he a) didn’t start b/c of some sort of minor infraction….and then got pulled like 2 or 3 times for whining, not hustling back, etc….
But when I saw him 2 years ago at Lebron James Academy I thought the only players better than him were Cousins, Wall, John Henson, and Henry…..it was like the first big event I ever covered and I was thinking “man, this guy must bang it down low”…..and he’s out ballin Daniel Orton off the dribble not 5 minutes later….Mason-Griffin is buckets though….him and Warren in the backcourt isn’t really a great combo b/c they both love to shoot…..
