Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantWould you rather watch an NBA game or an NCAA game..I mean just your average game..
Lakers vs Jazzor
Kansas vs Duke
Is it just me or is college basketball funner?
We don’t see many isolations as we see in the NBA. Everyone gets involved. And we’ve begun to see how to crowd in NCAA effects the game more than the crowd in the NBA..You’re pick?

JNixonParticipantI watch more college than NBA..It’s harder to score because everyone takes defense alot more personally. The players usually go all out and coaching is much more important in college than in the pros, where no matter how hard you coach you usually won’t get guys putting 100% effort until mid-way through the 3rd quarter (at most) or in the 4th quarter. There are more highlight-reel plays in the NBA, but I’m much more likely to scream at the television or at the players on the floor if I’m at/watching a college game.

M-DYMESParticipantIts damn near watching 2 different sports IMO. It is a totally different game and experience. The college game is more team oriented, relying a lot more on off the ball movement and passing. NBA style is more 1 on 1, breakdown your opponent off the dribble or post him. I love watching both games. Come March Madness though, I’m all about NCAA.

DanEboyParticipantWatching? it’s close. The NBA doesn’t really get exciting for me to watch until about this time when the playoff push starts. Early season NBA is kind of hard to watch. I could watch any college game though.
Attending, on the other hand, is not even close in my opinion. College games are by far more exciting and entertaining to go to. The atmosphere at the games is unreal. The student section alone makes it more entertaining with all of the chants, taunts, props, and body paint. The fans are more invested and take more pride in their college team than they do in their NBA team.

rtbtParticipantI used to prefer NCAA basketball but that changed when some idiotic network bean counter implemented the 4 minute media timeouts. If you aren’t aware of what happened, please read the following:
All NCAA games are stopped at the 16,12, 8, and 4 minute mark of each half for a series of commercials aimed at morons. That comes to a total of eight [8] media stoppages of the game and explains why a 40 minute contest actually lasts approximately 2 hours.
If the above isn’t bad enough, it seems as if each team has 50 timeouts that extend the game even more. How often have you seen the following? A coach calls a timeout at the 8:15 mark and the network breaks for commercials. The game continues for another 20 seconds or so until the next whistle which stops the game for the under 8 minute media stoppage. Then we have to endure another 3-4 minutes of mindless commercials. I can’t take it any more.
If the NCAA would simply eliminate one media time out per half, I would feel much better. Instead of stopping the game 4 times, make it 3 commercial breaks per half at the 15, 10, and 5 minute mark. It doesn’t sound like much but that would eliminate 2 media stoppages per game.
They should also cut back on the number of team time outs each half. Maybe the game will flow a little smoother and bench depth may come back as an important factor?
I think people should complain to the TV networks about all of the media timeouts that are ruining college basketball.

DanEboyParticipantI remember you talking about this like a week ago. I agree somewhat but it doesn’t really bother me all that much. I really don’t think that it is ruining the game. I don’t recall hearing any coaches or players complain about it to the point of wanting a rule change.

rtbtParticipantIt was far more than a week DanEboy, I complained about the excessive media timeouts about 5 or 6 weeks ago. If all of those media timeouts don’t bother you Dan, I would have to say you’re a better man then me. I can tell you that all of the guys I know hate it.
As for the coaches and TV commentators, I think those multi million dollar contracts keep them from complaining about the source of their excessive compensation.
As for your other point DanEboy, I think you were wrong when you said it wasn’t ruining the game. I remember when they didn’t stop the action 8 times per game which meant bench depth was still a factor. You couldn’t go through the tournament like Syracuse and Kentucky currently do playing only 6 or 7 guys. Teams can do that now because the 8 media timeouts provide about 28-32 minutes of rest for their starting five.
In addition, the flow of the game is constantly interrupted. Don’t know why that doesn’t bother you, but it irritates me to no end.

Disrespect_MeParticipantthat makes me wonder how good these guys conditioning is, I mean as far as a workout regimen
I’ve seen guys eat entire pizzas @ my old juco for dinner, I wonder how tough practices are?

BiggysmallsParticipantNCAA in a landslide.
The atmosphere is just so much better…fans are actually intot the game, the places are usually going bonkers. NBA games are usually pretty dead and they play annoying music during the game.
I think one guy noted how most NBA players dont give much effort until the final quarter of the game…I agree with that and I think its pathetic that its the case. None of them play hard nosed defense, or team defense. Its a highlight reel, offensive league now, whether thats better or worse for the game as a whole is up to other people to decide. I personally dont like it as much though.
Theres also more parity in college basketball…the NBA has like 6 good teams, and in the Preseason, everybody knows who’s gonna be competing for a championship…College is alot different, there are more upsets, teams suprise people, come out of nowhere, or dont live up the hype. It just makes things more interesting.
College basketball is better team basketball, NBA is better athletes.

MagikKnickParticipantDepends on the game for me, Im an NBA guy, so i’d choose NBA 9 times out of 10, but for the really exciting games, such as a good UNC vs a good Duke, i’d always watch..
But when March comes around, its definetly NCAA all the way.
& Like M DYMES said, it really is like watching 2 completely different sports, there both just played completely different, but in a month besides March, NBA is my sport

rtbtParticipantMagikKnick, I agree with everything you said above about the games. Unfortunately, we have to endure over one hour of commercials and a series of seemingly never ending timeouts that turns a 40 minute game into a 2 hour saga.

Mr.Knick 32ParticipantI rather watch the NBA.
The College offenses are bad, really limits the above average college player IMO. I enjoy watching NCAA however because I see it as the farm system to potential NBA players.
