valentinei said earlier that they were the best team int he country and when they got the number one spot i said the best team int he country is finally number one. man how wrong was i..lol. after they lost the top spot i still said they would be a tough team to play against in the tourney. the more ive watched the more my mind has changed. it would not suprise me to see them lose in the first round. out of all my predictions(favors, cousins,ed davis, maryland, vasquez) this and the cousins one was the only ones i was dead wrong about. this one suprised me more then the cousins one though

JNixonParticipantMy Kansas State boys ruined there season. It all started in that game on Big Monday. lol. But really, everyone had them as the best team in the nation earlier, your not the only one at all.
They’ve suffered from poor guard play, selfish players (Jordan Hamilton, J’Covan Brown, and sometimes Damion James), and Dexter Pittman being the most lazy defender in the history of defense which leads to him always fouling and giving up backdoors and post-ups against quick and/or athletic guys. I said it earlier too, Pittman has trouble when he has to finish over people, especially when he’s defended by guys with length, athleticism, or a good deal of quickness, or any mixture of the 3. He lacks a good deal of leaping ability and explosiveness, and it’s shown against Big 12 competition.
When teams figured out that they have no consistent guard play (Balbay was a poor shooter, Mason plays more like a 6’1″ SF than a PG now, J’Covan Brown takes poor shots, Jai Lucas sucks on D and he plays nervous) that’s when it went downhill.

quinceyhodgesyeah.. i think it was pretty known even before the season jordan was a shoot first second and third type of player. pittman started out the season very very well dunking on people and scoring and rebounding but then started to just pick up fouls in the first 5 min of every game. scouts had him as a lotto pick before he went in that funk.i told peopel brown was alright but not as good as alot of people on here kept trying to hype him up to be. i wonder if there was any friction between the young guys and the vets on that team. and kansas state seemd to have surpised everyone on here( except for you probably) but im not sure even you thought they wouldbe fighting for a number one seed. the main reason is probably because of my former aau teammate/assitant coach there who is also from maryland..delonte hill. yeah thats probably the main reason they are playing well..lol

gatorheelsParticipantPoor Poor Coaching…. Absolutely Terrible
0 - Posted on: Sat, 03/06/2010 - 1:14pm #263626
quinceyhodgescoaching?..you think so gator?..i cant agree because watching them they give up sooo many secon dchance popints then dumb turnovers then players trying to do too many one on one moves. i would say coaching if they were getting out executed or the plays werent wroking but they do through the plays then miss the shots or layups or turn the ball over. coach barnes has proven through his career that he is a very very good coach

gatorheelsParticipantCoach Barnes has proven that his teams choke in the tournament every year.
I’ve seen very poor offensive execution & gameplans. Defensive schemes have been terrible as well.
Plus Barnes isn’t playing the right lineups. He doesn’t know who to play where & when & for how many minutes.
The Coach is LOST
Did you see a minute ago Pittman was trying to trap a guard for Baylor out on the perimeter. Baylor got an easy dunk! Who would have thought that was going to happen. Pittman doesn’t need to be 24 feet away from the basket trying to trap guards…. that isn’t going to work. I’ve seen little things like this the last couple months.

JNixonParticipantDalonte Hill can recruit and he is a future head coach probably. If Frank Martin’s name gets hot in these coaching vacancies, Hill will probably the coach in waiting here. I said before the season that Kansas State was the 3rd best team in the conference, behind KU and Texas haha. I thought they’d be good, but I thought Texas would be better than them.
As far as Texas’ team chemistry, I think that the coaching was a problem for them in the conference season. They had so many rotations that it hurt their continuity.

DanEboyParticipantI have seen Avery Bradley play a few times and I am not that impressed. Is he a PG or a 2G?? He seems to be like a Ben Gordon type player. I know he plays very good defense but he seems to disappear alot during games.
Austin Freeman has impressed me more than him.

JNixonParticipantHe’s more of a Jrue Holiday/Royal Ivey type than Ben Gordon. He plays good D and makes open shots, sometimes off of 1 or 2 dribbles, but he’s not all that impressive to me either.

quinceyhodgeschock?,,when has texas choked?…they are never expected to win a title so when do they choke?..i can say the same thing about duke then because they are expected to go further then they do every year lately. is that also bad coaching?..im pretty sure coach barnes knows alot more about his team and coaching then you do…chock..now that was pretty funny. i dont think ive ever heard anyone say that about texas

quinceyhodgesbradley has had a pretty good season.not great but pretty good considering the role he has on that team.theres a couple other freshmen out there who have been far less impressive

gatorheelsParticipant99-00 Lost in the 2nd Round 5 seed
00-01 Lost in the 1st Round 6 seed
01-02 Made it to the Sweet 16 6 seed
02-03 Made it to the Final 4 1 seed
03-04 Made it to the Sweet 16 3 seed
04-05 Lost in the 1st Round 8 seed
05-06 Made it to the elite 8 1 seed
06-07 Get beat in the 2nd round. 4 seed
07-08 Made it to the elite 8 2 seed That elite 8 game was in Houston (home court advantage) & they still couldn’t make it to the final 4.
08-09 Get beat in the 2nd round 7 seed
09-10 Who knows? But we have seen how they have fallen apart the last couple months.
Texas has underperformed in almost every NCAA tournament above. I call that choking. That is my opinion. Think about all the talent Texas has had over the last decade …A TON.
In the last 10 tourneys only 1 final four appearance & 0 titles. Half of the time Texas doesn’t make it past the 2nd Round… Ouch
AJ Abrams, Damion James, Kevin Durant, Pittman, DJ Augustin, PJ Tucker, LaMarcus Aldridge, Daniel Gibson, Royal Ivey, Brandon Mouton, TJ Ford…just to name a few
I haven’t been impressed with Barnes as a coach. Especially this season. Too much talent to be losing this many games. Like I said earlier offensive gameplans aren’t good & the defensive schemes have been pitiful. Plus he isn’t playing the correct lineups. He doesn’t know who to play when & where & for how many minutes.
Yes part of the blame is the players BUT the Coach gets A LOT of the blame too. As a coach you have to teach these young players. As a coach you have to do your homework….Coach Barnes has been flunking

gregoden08ParticipantBarnes is an overrated coach. I’m not solely blaming him, but a lot of what’s happend this year is his fault.

quinceyhodges5 nba players in 10 years. so that wouldmean thecuse coach wouldhave to be included as a overrated coach as well.besides the one title havnt they been put out early in the tournament throughout there history?..lets see… he has 3 big ten coach of the year awads. i admit when it comes to the tourney his teams dontdo to well though

quinceyhodgesRoy Williams—In the 90’s and 00’s, he might have had the most NBA players in the league and only one championship. Also a ton of early losses in the NCAA tournament. This years UNC team is favored to win it all, lets see if he can live down this title as the most overrated coach.

whyyouhatingParticipantThey looked good before the big 12 play came around. they got caught with their pants down exposed.
No Pg talented players but no real college star. even on the college level James is not a star he is a role player hustle rebound and hit a open shots. Bradley can not create for others that well and is not ready to be that guy. Barnes is a good enough coach to get young players to play together and win.0 - Posted on: Sat, 03/06/2010 - 4:28pm #263690
quinceyhodgesnaw i have to strongly disagree with james just being a role player in college.

whiteflashParticipantBradley is basically the same player as Russel Westbrook was at the same stage. If he puts a little meat on and refines a few things I think he can be at least as good. Hamilton is ridiculous, and not in a good way. I’ve never seen someone so unwilling to pass. I can’t imagine how frustrated his teammates are playing with that clown, or how Barnes even lets him off the bench. He does nothing positive for a ball club. Texas as a team can’t hit a free throw to save their life, and in the tourney that’s exactly what they’re gonna have to do. It’s possible they can get on a roll and wreak havoc on d with their speed and athleticism and open it up early, but if it’s close they’re f@cked.
