Marcus Thornton

He is almost on there level now.. The only thing he needs to get better at is attacking the basket

i think he might be able to one day. isnt he about 2 years older?..i doubt if you can find a team that would take him over either of those guys though

I haven’t really seen him play, but I noticed on NBA 2K10 he got a huge overall rating increase, Darren Collison did too.

Nope. Mayo has a great all-around game. He can handle, create, shoot, and defend. He is well above the other two. Gordon and Thornton are similar, but Gordon just does it better and more consistently. Obviously, New Orleans got a better value with Thornton in the second round as opposed to Gordon in the lottery, but all things being equal a team would rather have Gordon now and going forward.

No. People are really underrating Mayo. He has taken a back seat this year to Randolph and Gay, but that shows his maturity. Mayo is a complete basketball player who scores, defends, and passes very well (even though he doesn’t put up huge assists numbers). I think if a team decided to give Mayo the ball similar to B-Roy and Wade, then we would see Mayo average 5-6 assists per game. right now he is designated to be a spot up shooter and scorer, but he really has sooo much more to his game. I like Thornton, but I don’t seem as being anything more than an explosive 6th man who can put up points in a hurry.

I don’t think Thornton has much upside, while Mayo and Gordon can get significantly better. Thornton will gain more experience, but I think what we’re seeing right now is what we’ll get. Mayo and Gordon can be legit number two options, while Thornton looks like he’ll be more of a spark plug off of the bench.

On another note… I don’t think Mayo is “well above” Gordon. Other than ball handling, I don’t see where Mayo is better. It’s arguable that Gordon is the better, stronger and more versatile defender. Shooting… They’re close. Gordon’s playmaking ability is underrated since he plays with a ball dominant point guard. He attacks the rim and gets to the free-throw line more. That’s been the case for two seasons now. He’s stronger, longer and more athletic… Finishes better in traffic, above and even below the rim.

Thornton is nice and give the Hornets what they need but the thing is I would rather have Mayo for the Hornets because he can do a lot more than he is showing in Memphis. Gordon is younger and more athletic but he is not as consistent as Thornton. Thornton is actually a different type of player than both of them so comparing him to them makes him look bad but for what Thornton does he is solid and he can go off for 30 or so game easy. He can only get better. Even though he is 22 or so, he can and will still improve and add to his game but scoring is really his strength and I think scoring wise he is on their levels but he does it in a different way.

fans will always go with there guys. but the masses have now swayed over to mayo being better. its all opinion but most peoples opinions have gone to mayo’s side. the people have spoken

Lol… I disagree that “the masses” and “the majority” of people’s opinions have swung over to Mayo’s side. I still think it’s a toss up in most people’s minds with neither guy really separating himself from the other yet. Only a fan would say something like “the masses” have swung over to their favorite guy. It’s still arguable who’s better between the two and it’s all based on opinion.
