    I have mentioned this before, but I don’t like guys who are tweeners or combo guards because to play 1 position in the nba in itself is very hard to have a guy having to learn 2 positions, forget about it. I know the game has changed where hand checking is no longer legal so it makes it easier for players to be combo guards, though I don’t think it makes them better players. If you look at some of the most successful NBA players they played 1 position and mastered it. That is how it should be, thoughts??

    Some guys are just very versatile. I mean Odom can play close to all position in the NBA. Is that a knock on him. I do understand your thoughts about a player that has to play out of position or play the point and is not a true point or play small forward when he is really a short power forward.

    Yes, some guys are versatile, I am not knocking a guy like Lamar Odom that is the player he is, but he isn’t a starter. I mean certain guys won’t have problems because of there talent and physical gifts such as Lebron and Tyreke Evans.

    yeah teams rather have a more versitile player then one who can only play one. i remeber reading how every team said they would love to have a lamar odom type of player. its especially great when you have a injury to a key player and you have that versitile player who can replace the guy or the guy in another position

    I want my starters to have definite positions but i want my bench to be versitale.

    id love to have a bunch of versitile guys as my starters…ill take a magic over a stockton at point. a lebron over a granger type at 3. and a odom type over a big baby type at the four

    I’d rather take a versatile player any day of the week, because you can’t just limit them to one thing, sometimes it’s a good thing, sometimes it’s a bad thing.

    For example Jeff Teague is 6’1 and is a versatile guard, meaning he can play point but also score that’s the good part, bad part is he doesn’t know how to RUN the point guard spot like a true point and set his teammates up and not worry about scoring unless he has to, but I’d still take a versatile player any day of the week.

    Well there are two kind of tweeners. The kinds that are deficient in the areas of both positions (Too small for a PF, too slow for a SF for example), and the kinds that are so dominant and versitile that playing them at different positions is completely viable. Honestly you just want the talented player regardless if theyre a positional switchblade, or a pure one position player.

    Mkadoaz is right about the different types of tweeners. I’d much rather have a Anthony Randolph or Lamar Odom tweener than a Kyle Singler or Trevor Booker type tweener. I want guys that are versatile, not that have to learn another position to offset a glaring weakness.

    I also agree with the I in win that I would want my starters to have definite positions and a versatile bench.

    I agree with mostly everything that everyone has had to say. I would definitely want definite positions as my starters and a versatile bench as the I in win said, because if a starter goes down I would have someone to replace them for a limited time. Guys like Nate Robinson, Lamar Odom, Jason Terry, Jamal Crawford, etc are great for benches because they can play multiple positions off the bench and occasionally start. You look at championship teams they have guys with definite positions, and not tweeners who aren’t definite in one position it messes up the whole team.

    The Hawks are pretty much a bunch of wing players other than Bibby. Billy Knight, the former Hawks GM, choose forwards for like 4 straight lotterys. I think unless you have a game changing talent like LBJ Kobe Wade, you absolutely need a good center and a solid point guard.
