    Wizards Sign Shaun Livingston
Posted by D.J. Foster On February 26, 2010 at 11:50 am

    From NBA.com:

Wizards President Ernie Grunfeld announced today that the team has signed guard Shaun Livingston to a ten-day contract. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not announced.

A former “Mr. Basketball” in Illinois (2003-04), Livingston led Peoria Central High (Peoria, IL) to Class AA state titles in 2003 and 2004 before jumping straight to the NBA as the L.A. Clippers’ first-round pick (fourth overall) in the 2004 NBA Draft. Livingston has appeared in 167 games (61 starts) in parts of five seasons in the NBA, compiling career averages of 6.9 points, 3.0 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game. He most recently appeared in 10 games this season for the Oklahoma City Thunder and also played briefly for the NBA D-League’s Tulsa 66ers in 2008-09. Livingston was enjoying his best professional season as a member of the Clippers in 2006-07 (9.3 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 5.1 apg, .463 fg% in 29.8 mpg) before sustaining a season-ending knee injury on February 26 that kept him out of action for the duration of the 2007-08 season.

This is starting to get a little strange. The Wizards now employ 5 former Clippers on their roster: Shaun Livingston, Al Thornton, Earl Boykins, James Singleton and Quinton Ross.

Maybe Wizards assistant coach Sam Cassell has something to do with all this.

Shaun Livingston has some crazy measurements. According to draftexpress he is as tall as Carmelo and Thaddeus Young but the problem is he is not as heavy as those guys yet.

    Description:
Extremely tall for a point guard. Very skinny. Needs to add bulk to his frame. Not really much of a scoring threat. Doesnt get to the free throw line at a great rate. Added bulk will help him in this department as he gets older. Also added bulk would help him become more of a post-up guard in the mold of Magic Johnson.

    Height: 6’7.5
    Weight: 186
    Wingspan: 6’11

    Edit:
If he bulks up he could become Carmelo-lite. Added weight would help his jumper and post-up game.
Even though Iguodala and Wade are my favorite combo guards Livingston can still be a big mismatch.

All I’m saying is don’t sleep on him 😉

    Good luck Shaun!

I’ve been a big Shaun Livingston fan ever since he came into the league, and I’ve always told myself that 15 is the magic number for him: 15 lbs. of muscle, and a consistent 15 ft. jump-shot. Due to his injury taking away much of his athleticism, those additional attributes won’t make him a star, but they should enable him to stick in the league.

I hate to say it, because I really want Sean to succeed, I dont think its going to happen with the Wizards.. Every time he signs with a team, guys talk about what he can be and its a shame because he was well on his way to being that until he got hurt.. I hope im wrong but I dont see him getting it done this year…

I feel so bad for this guy. That knee injury was tied for the worst I’ve ever seen along with Willis McGahee. Even if he ever did get back to 100% you know teams are scared sh!tless to take a chance on him due to the wheel. The Wizards have given him that shot, but how long ’til they dump him like everyone else? It sucks ’cause this kid has game. I don’t see the diet-Melo comparison, but do see him developing into a kind of poor man’s Penny Hardaway if given the chance.
