Cusemen727ParticipantI think its safe to say LeBron is arguably the best player this league has seen since jordan(some might say Kobe but thats another debate). IMO I believe that LeBron is going to end up as the leagues all time leading scorer as well as breaking several individual records, the guy is a super freak. Saying he does all this, does he need to eclipse MJs 6 rings to be considered the GOAT?

llperezno. If he can continue to average close to a triple double and improve in terms of his perimiter shooting down the stretch of games and erase any doubts of his clutchness, then he would probably need 2-3 titles to possibly become the goat.

NYK2010Participantif he gets 4 playing in the next 10 years he’ll be right there.
If he does it w/out a franchise big like Shaq was in his prime it helps the argument.0 - Posted on: Thu, 02/25/2010 - 9:47pm #260508

sheltwon3Participantnot to knock anyone or anything but rings are hard to come by and unless Lebron join forces with another superstar or two, I dont see him getting any more than 2 rings tops. He may get another one late in his career as a older vet but there are two many talented teams and Cavs greatness is limited. Jamison is nice but they still are Lebron and few supporters and Jamison is not getting younger.

llperezi agree sheltwon, rings get thrown around too easily on here. They are not easy to come by and i have to laugh when people ask “how many rings do you think so and so will get” like every great player is entitled to one. That’s why i just said he needs to get 2-3 to have the chance to be considered better then jordan because i think that you need at least a few to be brought up with mike, but you don’t necessarliy have to match.

Daprob89ParticipantLets remembers mikes the GOAT and Lebron has like Jordan numbers but not quite…
It took Jordan 7 seasons to get his first ring this is Lebron 7th. How long do we have to wait on this guy?Jordans first 7 seasons:

apb540ParticipantLebron needs atleast 4 to be in the talks for GOAT

Cusemen727ParticipantBy no means do I believe it is easy to get a ring,as a matter of fact im sure its very had to get one lol, Im not saying that at all, but most people judge greatness by championships, and i was just wondering if people thought LBJ needed to match or exceed MJs ring count to be considered better then jordan. Im with you llperez, i think if he can get 2-3 I think he will go down GOAT, anything after that will just add to his legacy. And just for the record, I cant stand LeBron, i think hes a cocky lil cry baby who took all of Carmelos thunder the year they got drafted and i hope you he never wins one, but I understand hes arguably the best player since jordan and i can appreciate greatness because that he is.

fastdanParticipantIf you don’t need rings to be the GOAT, then isn’t being the GOAT kinda overrated? I mean, if LBJ left this league with no rings, but breaking all the records I think it may say something about the need to have a max contract player to win.
I think if he doesn’t go down without any rings he won’t have the legacy Jordan/Kobe/Magic ect have…People will always remember MJ has 6 rings, but off the top of my head I can’t tell you his career ppg or his total points, I can’t tell you what how many assists Magic averaged but I know he has 5 rings…without championships I think he would probably just end up in the category of guys like Malone/Barkley/Iverson…guys with outstanding numbers and MVP(s) but could never win the whole thing…People in 10,15,20 years who never got to see him play will just say, ‘wow great numbers, but he could never seal the deal, I guess he wasn’t that good’, which is what happens now…I mean what’s the difference between Malone and Duncan? It’s hard to argue if put in that same situation Malone wouldn’t of had 4 rings too…
Basketball is about winning, if you can’t do that, you can’t be the best.

Meditated StatesParticipantA player of Lebrons hype and so called status needs a lot of rings. He is not Barkley, Stockton or Malone. He is talked as the goat already. The rings are hard to come by yes, but if your Bill Russell,MJ,Kobe,Magic you find a way to get a bunch, so Lebron better find away my friend.

llperezscout4real, i said he needed 2-3 minnimum, is that not enough?

sheltwon3ParticipantI think with the way the NBA team are now 3 would give him so cred but honestly in Cleveland I dont see it happening. They draft terrible and they took forever to give Lebron help. They are close now but would have to swap talent for talent to get over the hump. Lakers still have more talent than them and Cleveland has yet to play Lakers in playoffs which is different than regular season.

quinceyhodgesthats pretty much the answer..he needs a coupel of rings( i say at the very least 4) to be considered the goat

armanLebron isnt going be all time leading scorer…..i agree that he is the best player since jordan and to be in talk for best player ever he need at least 4-5 titles( which he isnt going to win)
