Hasheem Thabeet being sent to D-League

they should have done this a long time ago

How could people not see this coming…I never have been a fan of Thabeet and I really dont think he will ever be anything more than a backup role player on a team. I doubt he ever averages more than 8 points and 8 rebounds.

I don’t see the “potential” in this guy…is it that he’s 7’3? Is it that he’s fairly athletic? Is it that he hasnt been playing basketball a long time? I just dont understand why people think he is going to do anything. He’s not very good. He was solid in college because he was at least 6 inches taller then 80 percent of his competition and was part of a UCONN team that was very deep and talented. He himself is not a good player. He has no basketball skills really. I guess its not his fault really, he couldnt control that he got picked 2nd in the draft…But he will be a bust.

Now he’ll probably come on this forum and steal all of my points without telling me why he disagrees with what I said.

Im a big fan of Thabeet and i think this is a good move for him down the road. He wasn’t getting the PT he needed to get better. He’ll get alot of time in the D- league and hopefully he’ll be ready to contribute in a much bigger way next seadon.

he deserves to go down there and learn somemore. i think he will do pretty well down the road

whats funny is the same people who talk about how bad he will be for his career are the same ones who will say another guy who hasnt played much better then thabeet for there careers, has potential

Never really been big on guys that are just….tall. His upside is that he’s tall. That’s it. He should be a shot-blocking presence at his height, but that doesn’t make him a basketball player. He’s a poor post player offensively, isn’t a great rebounder for his size, and he can be scored on at times when his matchup has a a natural leverage advantage (ask DeJuan Blair).. He’s likely to be a bust, but I’ll wait and see. It’s his rookie year.

im not saying he will be great but im wondering why some people are so hard on him but not jeff teauge? neither plays alot both have similar scoring numbers or earl clark? i can understand if its because of where he was drafted though. but jeff has done nothing to make me think hes gonna be that good either and hes playing behind bibby while thabeet is playing behind gasol

he still has a whole lof of potential n wen ur such a threar on defense u can stay n the nba for a long time so i wont really consider dis a bad thing at all!!!

dejuan blair wont last long n da nba n will b playin n europe he reminds me alo of marc jackson dat use 2 go 2 temple n played for numerous nba teams n is outta da league n outta shape

This guy has bust written all over him unfortunately… He honestly reminds me of Desagana Diop and he will be nothing more than a role player in the NBA.

now thats where i will have to disagree with you. the man is puttin gup nice numbers in limited minutes and has done very well when he has gotten alot of time. hs done things i dont think marc ever did in his entire career

He is getting dumped on because he was picked way too high. I could only imagine what would have happened if they had picked someone that could contribute off their bench. It’s a good move though. He needs to be playing somewhere.

How is he a threat on Defense? Its the NBA…guys arent scared of 7 footers like alot of college players are. Big men in the NBA are good enough to score on 7 footers and most guards have the explosiveness to score on 7 footers too. I dont know why people think that because he’s 7’3 he’s automatically a defensive presence and a shotblocker.Cuz he’s not. he has no offensive game, so people think he has to be a good defensive player. Thabeet is not like Dalembert, Dalembert is a good player who can anchor a defense with his size toughness and rebounding…Thabeet cant.

People arent ripping on Earl Clark or Jeff Teague because they werent top 5 picks. Though I do agree with you that both of them should be getting ripped on more because they havent done squat in the league. They get a pass for now because they werent selected at number 2 and deemed big time potential players like Thabeet is.

I like this move because with that Haddadi dude playing so much better this will help him improve his game. Going to the d league is not always a bad thing. Session went there and came back playing really good and I think there was some others that used that time to get better as well.

Not too many number two picks get sent down to the D-League… That’s clearly the reason why he’s getting ripped on.

This will be good for him though. He’ll get consistent minutes and get some on court experience. I’m not high on him though. He doesn’t have the mentality to be a great player in the NBA. I knew that right after watching Blair nearly break his arm off.

First of all, Thabeet was drafted way to high..He was said to be a lottery pick..But not top 5..Almost everyone in the Grizzlies upper management had a player they wanted..After the team failed to get the 1st pick and draft Blake Griffin..G.M Wallace had Georgetown freshman Center Greg Monroe as the 2nd best college player.But Monroe decided to remain in college…Up until the day of the draft Wallace still was trying to move up to get Griffin…Coach Hollins wanted to draft Rubio..Owner Heisley wanted local product Memphis Tiger guard Tyreke Evans…But 1 thing that they all agreed on was the fact that they had to become better defensively..So Thabeet became the choice..They knew he wasn’t going to help them right away..But they saw Dalembert who wasn’t great offensively..But had developed into a defensive warrior for the 76’ers..They were hoping to get that shot blocking rebounding warrior in Thabeet…..This will help him regain his confidence..Guy is only 20 years old..And just starting playing basketball at age 14..I watched alot of Grizzlies game this season and attended about 6 of their games in person..Thabeet was having problems getting position down low..He was pushed around in the post by smaller stronger players..And commited silly fouls..He has the skills to 1 day became a defensive force..He leads all rookies in blocks and leads the nba in blocks per 48 minutes..But coach Hollins wants him to work on his offense..You just can’t specialize in 1 thing and not try to score around the basket on ofense…Rudy Gay & Marcus Williams also UConn. products…Gave Thabeet some advice ,saying this isn’t college where big guys dont have to score..He has to work on his timing and weak-side help..He has to work on his footwork..Big guys that can knock down 10 foot shots draw him out on the perimeter..But once he works on a few things he’ll be, ok..
