With all the talk about Lebron, Wade, and Bosh being Free agents. Brendan Haywood is one of the few true centers who will be on the market this summer, he’ll be 31 in November. I think for his rebounding and shot blocking abilities I think he can be of value to many teams. His current salary is $6mil, I think he is worth either an MLE or a 3 year deal for 21-22 million. Thoughts??

He’s in a contract year, so he’s had a good season. I wouldn’t dare be fooled and overpay him. I wouldn’t give him more than $7 million a year on a three year deal, with the third being a team option.

With Haywood, I see it like this give him a 3 year contract, and if he is showing decline during year 2, he’s a great contract to trade away in year 3.

That of course is a worry, but the Knicks can guarantee him a starting spot as well as money. The Mavericks have Dampier, so Haywood would have to compete.

I would allow him to earn up to $8mil in his contract if he averages 10 boards a game and 10 points a game as a million dollar incentive, guy is capable of that on put backs only. Otherwise just $7million.

Since Damp will be entering the final year of his contract next season, a $12 million+ contract with little (possibly no) money guaranteed, Dallas is going to be going over every possible Sign and Trade option with Damp, along with possibly Caron Butler since he will also be in the last year of his contract (near $10 million).

So, Haywood wouldn’t really have any competition at Center next year if he re-upped with the Mavericks. (Although Dallas could possibly resign Damp once his contract got bought out, but without his 12 million on the books, Dallas wouldn’t be likely to start him)

kurtu17 as a fellow laker fan i am shocked you mentioned trading haywood for bynum. you must not have watched haywood over his career and must be just going by what hes done recently. that would be a dumb trade and i would probly no longer be a laker fan…………………………….for a couple days but that still wouldnt be a good trade

The mavericks will resign Haywood. Dallas has a team option on Dampier for next season, so most likely this will be his last season in Dallas.
