I was looking at the best dunks of the week on nba.com and well it seems the d-league slam dunk contest was more interesting than the nba one. I don’t know anybody already talk about that but look at number 1.

the NBDL is filled with players who have substantial athletic ability but nothing else really going for them. so i wouldnt be surprised if the D-league dunk contest had better dunks.

Case in point: the no. 1 in your video link – Taurian Fontenette aka “Air Up There” formerly of AND1 fame. He’s famous for the 360 in-between the legs dunk and the 720 dunk. Great athlete. Poor Defense. Played sparingly in college.

I agree it’s no big surprise but there are players in nba with huge athleticism too. There was a topic in this forum where someone said that every dunk was made and that there’s no more place for innovation, etc… but i don’t remember seeing a dunk like this in slam dunk contest, so there’s still a little innovation to do for nba dunk contest.

Guys like Derozan, Shannon Brown, Lebron, Iguodala…, those players with athleticism for example may be able to do such dunks.

And i forget to add, the place where D-league All-star game took place looks like a cellar or a High school gym at best, few people to watch…
