Just want to see if people here can point out some of the good coaches or potential good coaches that can do the job in the NBA.

Right now, I assume the best out there would be:
Jeff Van Gundy – defensive minded coach that had a very good track record
Avery Johnson – had a very good record with the Mavs, but he seemed to have lost his players in Dallas

I am not too knowledgeable in coaches. Looking to see if there are other good coaches and about their strengths/weaknesses.

Also, a few guys that had success in other league and was trying to get into the NBA:
    Bill Laimbeer
    Michael Cooper

Both had success in WNBA, would they be good in the NBA also? Cooper also won in the NBDL.

    Discuss.

Tom Thibodeau is an assistant coach with the Celtics as of right now, but he’ll definitely be a head coach very soon. He’s the mastermind behind their defense.

You are right, he’s a very good defensive coach. He was also an assistant coach for Jeff Van Gundy in Houston and the mastermind behind Rockets’ solid defense for the past a few seasons (the effect is still there even though Rick Adelman is in charge).

I heard about him being considered for head coach position but not sure if he can be good at it. There are a lot of great assistant coach that did not turn into good head coach though.

    Tom Thibodeau definitely got potential.

They’ve been saying for awhile now that Byron Scott might coach the lakers when ever Phil leaves. Apparently KObe really likes him and looks to byron as a bit of a mentor ever since his rookie year.

that wouldnt be a bad pickup. one thing i like about the lakers though is they dont always do what kobe wants them to do, they do whats best for the team

Larry Krystkowiak, Terry Stotts and Terry Porter should all be nba head coaches. its a dammnn shame that theyre not. Also sam cassell hasnt got an opportunity which is mindboggling

Patrick Ewing….hes been alongside many coaches as a player & asst coach, you’d think he’d be pretty good given the right roster….

I really really really hope Jeff Van Gundy gets a coaching job because hearing him on air is horrible.

Also, Avery Johnson this guy brings so much energy and knowledge about the defensive side of the ball that I would love him to be back coaching.

I said Ewing, but just noticed MagicKnick already named him.

It’s crazy, but Ewing hasn’t even gotten an interview yet.
