Dhamp2ParticipantI’m starting to like you, so let me step it up a bit. Back to the college player of the decade, since I got in on it really late.
Carmelo Anthony is the best college player of the decade. Maybe not hands down, but Melo anyway. He’s the evidence. The season started great for him. He broke SU’s freshmen record for points in a game on opening night if I remember correctly (I don’t google stats, etc).
By the time March Madenss came around, SU wasn’t ranked in the top 25. But when it counted most, let’s look at what Melo did. He, along with two other freshmen and a sophomre, a VERY young team, went through the BIG 12, LOL. That was the best conference that year. They beat Texas, Kansas, Oklahoma and Oklahoma states. Remember in the sweet 16, OSU was up 16 points in the second half and lost….Give alot of credit to Billy Edelin for the comeback.
Anyway, the only things that counts are rings. Anyway, he set the bar. If you didn’t lead your team to a national championship freshmen year, you should automatically be disqualified. Sure some guys like Tyler Hansbrough “stuck around college” forever and a day to play basketball. But it was because they had to. They weren’t good enough to leave. All the more reason why Melo is in a class all of his own.

Why do you think he came back his senior year. Now, be honest with yourself. Who was REALLY a better college basketball player Melo or Hansborough? Hmmmmmm.
Yeah, that’s an easy one. Melo would’ve wiped the floor with Hansborough. Let’s be real.

Dhamp2ParticipantIn what category or what skill was Hansborough better than melo??? Was it his shot, speed, rebounding, ast, leadership (I don’t even remember him being a leading coming into NC). And Tyler played how many years in college, 4??!! And he has the same amount of rings as Melo. Case over.

If we were talking about who the best player of the last decade was, then yes, Carmelo would rank well above Hansbrough. But the term "greatest" is used to reference accomplishment. In four years, it’s impossible to deny that Hansbrough accomplished more than Anthony did in his single season.
You seem to be the only person really struggling to understand the distinction. "Best" is an entirely subjective term. Some would argue Anthony was worse than Kevin Durant or Michael Beasley. But none of those players accomplished as much — reached as many landmarks, broke as many records — as Hansbrough did.

Dhamp2ParticipantFirst, just to negate you point, Carmelo was a better pure than Lebron was in college.
Now, don’t forget Carmelo set the stage for Durant and Beasley and even John Wall. After Anthony, the media, fans, etc, was looking for the “new Anthony” the freshmen who would do the impossble and miraculous.
OK, Carmelo accomplished as much as Tyler in college. In fact, the highest goal you can achieve. I’m not struggling with any distinction.
Also, Tyler was very much a product of his enviroment and the McDonald All-Americans surround him!!!! He garnered so much criticism in his last two years, that the public became sympathetic to him and he became a charity act…..and later they felt sorry for him that they put him on a pedistal. Do what Tyler does. Go to class. Study hard. You too, can become “Pycho T.” No offense, he was a clown.

anyways…Its not like Syracuse was Melo and some trash though either. They had some pretty solid players around him, Mcnamara who was really solid, and Hakim Warrick who also was a double double guy. So Its not like Melo completely carried that Cuse team. Yeah he was their best player, but to say that Hansbrough was only good because of the studs around him is a bad argument. Nobody can carry a team to the final 4 by themselves. Nobody.

SlimParticipantmost commonly players who return have a perceived lack of athleticsm so coming back to college will help their draft stock for several reasons:
1) the best players are leaving so if u come back u can be top dog
2) u have another year of experience under your belt which the incoming freshman do notI think Hansborough was a dominant college player and he has the ring to prove it,
but you have to wonder what Durant, Beasley, and Melo would have accomplished had they returned to school for four yearsand I think its debatable who was the most dominant player while in college

I think its safe to say that Durant, Beasley, and Melo were on pace to eclipse Hansbrough’s records
