With the deadline this week…I am scared due to the possibility of gay being traded. He’s restricted next year…but I have read the possibility of him being traded to get something out of him, instead of losing him to a very high contract offer over summer.
On the other hand, if he isn’t traded, I feel memphis is a step closer to commitment with rudy. If Heisly is unwilling to sign him like a lot of you think, or were afraid of losing him for nothing, he will be traded at this deadline.

My only thoughts are….don’t trade him….sign him over the summer

It’s a tough situation. Gay has really matured this season and has played well. The Grizzlies have finally developed team chemistry and are right in the mix for a playoff spot in the Western Conference. However…

He’s not worth as much as he thinks he is. He turned down a contract extension worth $10 million a year. He wants a deal close to what Portland gave Lamarcus Aldridge (five years, $65 million with incentives), but I don’t think he’s worth that much to the Grizzlies.

    I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s traded.

I will never understand how someone can turn down 10mil a year. Ben Gordon did the same last year. The Grizz might want to go cheap and see what Sam Young can do or can’t do. I think they should sign him, the kid is younger than Young as well. But if he turned down 10mil, I say trade him…they have to get value for him though.

dont be scared. the chances of him being traded is very very low because of how well they are playing and the fact that hes a restricted free agent

I want him to stay in Memphis. He is a good fit with Mayo (contrary to my belief before the season) and has become an elite scorer. He’s developed into a top 10 kinda perimeter scorer. Memphis is overachieving and Gay is a big reason why. I think he’ll stay

I wouldn’t be to worried, sure he is a great player and is going to get some attention but i don’t think anyone is going to throw huge money at him with the economy the way it is. Someone will offer him 10 million a year and he will accept and then be matched.

rudy gay is only 23 and hes averaging 20 and 6..sounds like memphis should do everything possible to keep him around…if they’re gonna make a move how about trading mike conley to get a point guard who can be effective WITHOUT the basketball in his hands

despite the fact that it’s a contract year, even though he’s restricted, Rudy Gay has given me all the reason why any offer he signs needs to be match by the grizzlies. He, mayo, gasol, and conely have a decent future to look foward to and will be threats if they continue to grow together and play well.

I said it at the beginning of the season, this team is young and needs time to grow together. Around the age 25-26, these 4 will be able to show everybody who they really are….that’s if heisly doesn’t let gay walk.

Considering how well the Grizzlies have been playing, I think they’ll ride out his contract and see where they end up this season, then re-evaluate the situation in the summer. If he is offered a max contract over the summer, I’m not sure that the Grizzlies will match, but who knows? Maybe the best he’ll get is around $10 mill/season, and the Grizzlies match, and they keep the team in tact. Grizzlies have a great young core, and they really shouldn’t break it up.

whoever said they can’t see turning down 10 million…. that’s cuz you don’t work in a place where you could possibly be making 15!!!!! That dude wants to live well and not have to work for the rest of his life!

This Rudy Gay situation seems very similar to what David Lee went through last summer. I think teams are going to be scared to give Rudy an offer out of fear Memphis will match it, and Memphis will end up giving Rudy a 5 year $50mil deal and he’ll end up accepting it because no other team gave him an offer.

I would give Rudy Gay a 5yr/$60 mil deal. Rudy Gay is worth it he scores enough and he can control the crowd with his thunderous dunks. I dont think he will be traded because most teams are waiting on the summer to capitalize on the many free agents. Even in the summer i see Memphis giving Rudy Gay a very nice deal in order to keep this very tallented young Memphis Grizzlies team in tact….The question i would have for management is who are they trying to build the team around Rudy Gay or OJ Mayo or both…. they have height with Gasol and Thebeet and there backcourt is solid. I see this team together for at least the next 3 years.
