llperezthe lakers beat portland and san antonio without kobe. Now they are beating up on the jazz. I think the depth of the lakers is shining right now. Guys like farmar, brown and vujacic(yes vujacic) are all playing great. They haven’t had bynum during this stretch either.

quinceyhodgesyep..tried to tell tezo that our bench was better then what he thought…and they are showing it. and its not like gasol or the other starters are going way over there averages or playing much better defense. the bench is contributing more and getting there confidence up…this will help us in the end. as long as they keep winning i say please get some rest kobe

doubledribblerParticipantThe Lakers bench is ok. It’s not at the level it was when they played the Celtics in the finals because guys like Farmar, Walton and especially Vujacic looked a lot better. I knew Farmar would play better without Kobe because he gets more freedom when Kobe is not there. Same for some of the other guys. Besides Gasol is an all star level player and Odom has shown he can put together big nights. Those two completely dominated the boards tonight.

quinceyhodgesi think shannon brown takes away from some of what farmar did that year. sasha just regressed badly for some reason and walton was hurt for a long time. the bench isnt flashy nor put up great numbers but they get the job done they arent the best but they arent the worst but they are up there because of there top 3 bench players
odom
brown
farmar….i think they match up pretty well with just about any other top 3 bench guys on other teams

llperezagreed. Odom had 24 and 11 tonight and farmar and brown do there thing consistently. I’ll put those 3 against just about any bench out there right now.

IndianaBasketballParticipantYou said the Lakers had one of the best benches in the league, which isn’t true.
Other than Odom, who’s basically a starter, and Brown… The Lakers’ bench has been awful this season and has consistently given up leads. Farmar is playing well as of late, but he’s struggled for the most part. There was a Vujacic sighting vs Utah, but he’s taken a huge step back since they re-signed him. Walton is solid when he’s healthy, but he’s been injured. The others are Mbenga and Powell, who just aren’t that good unless you’re a fan.
Everybody has stepped up since Kobe and Bynum have been out, but that still doesn’t take away the fact that their bench hasn’t really played up to expecations this season. Hopefully, playing without Kobe and Bynum for a few games gives them some confidence heading into the 2nd half of the season.

rtbtParticipantI think the LA bench is better than you make it out to be. Having said that, I think most NBA teams have lots of talented guys on the bench and it’s usually up to the head coach to motivate them, show confidence in them, and let them play often as part of a regular, consistent rotation.
Unfortunately far too many NBA coaches depend too much on their starters and refuse to do the things I stated above. That’s when the guys on the bench lose their confidence and ability to play well.

quinceyhodgesexactly..and just because odom is basically a starter means what? haslem is basically a starter so it jason terry. if youre not a starter then you are a off the bench player reguardless how good you are. its ok though many people just try to find a reason not to like us so this is the norm.
