GlenTaylorSucksParticipantSo I’m a T-Wolves fan, and…well…they suck. Really, really suck. Haha, here’s how I think they can improve:
1) Get rid of Al Jefferson. They already tried trading him, but they need to try harder. He’s a very good low post scorer, but he’s more useless than someone with two broken legs on defense. Plus, he slows the team down because he demands the ball so much on offense, and he holds onto the ball WAY too long. Not only that, but they have Kevin Love, who’s basically the same type of player, only 4 years younger and at least tries to play defense. Trade him for a wing player, or a real big man. Of course, also some higher first round draft picks.
2) Draft Evan Turner. The wolves DESPERATELY need a 2 and a 3 that can not only create shots for themselves, but who can create for others, as well as play some solid D. Turner fits all these perfectly. Don’t pass up on him- they’ve already screwed up big time twice by getting rid of B-Roy AND Mayo. If he’s not available when they pick, get Wesley Johnson, or trade down and get Xavier Henry, as well as a draft pick and other pieces.
3) Sign Rudy Gay. Flynn running the point with Turner and Gay on the wings…holy crap, that would be a fun team to watch. Plus, Gay is still young and has room to develop his game- he also has the tools to be a lock down defender. Hopefully Rambis can knock some sense into him.
4)Let Rubio develop in Europe. This team isn’t gonna be good for a few years. When he does get here though…
5) Trade Ramon Sessions. We have WAY too many points on our team, we don’t need another when Rubio comes.
6) Get a REAL big. Either by trade or by draft. Anybody other than having Love and Jefferson as your bigs. Somebody who can play D, block/alter shots, rebound well, etc.
Any thoughts?

B-ball fanParticipantThey really need a shot blocking big. Their interior defense is horrible. Jefferson has ridiculous post moves, but you’re right, they need defense.

butidonthavemoneyI’m a big fan of Kevin Love. I think he is a special player, like a championship-type player. Rubio and Flynn are both excellent prospects. Brewer, Gnomes, Ellington are nice pieces as well…
If the T-Wolves can get Evan Turner/Wesley Johnson, trade Jefferson and Sessions and sign a solid player through free-agency, then I really like their future.
Flynn/Rubio
Turner/Ellington
Brewer
Love/Gnomes
???????I like that team in a few years.

hotshotschampParticipantI’m also a huge fan of love. He’s still just a kid at 21 and will continue to get better and better.
Twolves need some lotto luck. Evan Turner fits this team to a TEE. However you can’t always count on that luck. Wall/turner/johnson would be ideal. Cousins perhaps at Center, then trade Al Jefferson.
Corey Brewer is playing better and should continue to do so.
Jefferson is a 20 and 10 type guy.
Rubio and Pekovic are 2 really great assets to have over in Europe. Sounds like Pekovic is coming over next year. He’s better than a lot of ppl think.
We will most likely have the utah jazz ( playing great ) and Bobcats pick in the 2010 draft, along with a fair amount of salary cap, unless they trade expirings for a player this year, which is possible.
If the Twolves pull off a smart trade or get a player in FA and draft well, they could be a player pretty soon in the NBA. I’m crossing my fingers for sure.

FUTURE GMParticipant1. Don’t agree with trading Big Al because he has the best post moves in the league and we can’t get equal value for him. We should keep KLove and Big Al together and try to develop Ryan Hollins or draft Cole Alrich.
2. We should Draft Evan Turner to help create shots for others or Wesley Johnson will be nice.
3. We should sign Travis Outlaw because he provides length and three point shooting plus he’s from Mississippi and Big Al would like that and he would be cheaper then Rudy Gay who wont sign with the Wolves anyway so there’s no point to get your hopes up.
4. Keep Rubio overseas because he’s the starting point guard in 2011 when Flynn moves to the bench
5. Use the remaining cap room and draft picks to acquire more veteran help…Like Rip Hamilton
6. Sign Corey Brewer long term because he is the glue guy and defensive stopper every team needs.

M-DYMESParticipantIm a huge T-Wolves fan too, man its a tough lifestyle choice. But anyway I’m pretty happy with how they have been playing lately ever since essentially making the bench relatively equal to the starters. Love and Big Al just can’t seem to play together, but Hollins has added another dimension to this team. I agree with you that we should try to ship Big Al off. I see us as more of a running team than posting up on the block with big Al. Not to mention he rarely plays solid D.
I think we def. need to keep Love though. He is a great outlet passer who can get this team moving and he can even stroke the 3 from outside as well as grab 10+ boards a night.
Brewer has developed alot this year and his jumper is 100x times better than where it was last year. I like his length and think he is a very solid player for us in the future.
If we are going to keep Rubio, I think we need to ship Sessions off once he comes over. He’s a solid player but Flynn is already a better scorer and has much better potential IMO.
As far as FAs go…I’d love to be able to get either Rudy Gay or Travis Outlaw. We need a solid 2 guard or a 2/3 wing type player. Either one fits the bill but I think Rudy Gay is perfect for our system and has greater potential. He already is an all-star caliber player.
Come the draft, obviously if Wall is there I think we take him no matter what our situation is. I think he can play the 2 guard if he has too, but we could also look at trading Rubio/Sessions if it comes to that (im against shipping flynn off, I love his energy). If hes gone though, I think Turner would be a very solid pick. Johnson would be next on my board and then I would like to see us trade down if none of those guys are available (highly possible given our draft lottery luck). If Whiteside comes out maybe take him if we ship Big Al off, but I’d much rather grab a guard in this draft.
Future Lineup possibility… (given we don’t get Wall due to our shit luck)
PG Flynn
SG Turner
SF Gay/Outlaw
PF Love
C Hollins?
6th BrewerI think its a solid lineup to build off of for the future.

j1232eParticipantis trade rubio for a quality vet. Rubio still has high trade value, minny is lacking vet. leadership. If they do indeed sign gay mixed with another top 5 pick possibly turner, and a quality vet. could actually win a few more games next season. PS minny could have a big win against dallas tonight!

tli232I seriously want to see the Wolves to Trade Jefferson and a few pieces to Toronto for Bosh before the Deadline. I think Bosh and Love would be a great one-two punch on offense. Both can step out and knock down long jumpers. Both can rebound like crazy. Bosh can focus on scoring and Love can focus on rebounding. Not exactly a match in heaven, but better than Jefferson/Love.
I think the trade below solves both the Jefferson issue AND the Rubio Issue.
here it isIn this trade, Toronto Gets a First round pick this year. Assuming Bosh resigns, one of the top Free agents (excluding Amare, LeBron, Wade) will surely come to Minny.
Projected lineup:
C: Love
PF: Bosh
SF: Gay
SG: Brewer
PG: RubioThoughts?

M-DYMESParticipanttli232, I don’t think Rubio can come over until the 2011-2012 season so Flynn would remain the starting PG. As far as getting Bosh, I really don’t foresee that happening but would love the move. I really think they do have a legit shot at Gay regardless of if they get a star to come prior to his signing. The heads upstairs in Minny have admitted that they love Rudy Gay, hinting that they may be willing to break the bank for him if they have to.

rtbtParticipantWhen you examine the Timberwolves and their history, remember that Kevin McHale was a GM who ranked near the very bottom along with Isiah Thomas. When David Kahn took over I thought they could only go one way and that was up, but I was wrong. Let’s examine some of Kahn’s moves.
1. He traded Mike Miller and Randy Foye for Etan Thomas, Darius Songalia, and Oleksiy Pecherov. I think any objective party would have to wonder what he was thinking. That was about as one sided a trade as you can find.
2. In the NBA 2009 draft he selected not one, but four [4] point guards, Flynn, Rubio, Lawson, and Calathes. Those choices still have me shaking my head and asking myself if it was possible to be worse than Kevin McHale. The answer just might be yes.
3. Kahn signed J. Flynn and traded Ty Lawson to Denver. If I was the GM, I would have kept Ty Lawson and traded Flynn. But if I was the GM, I would not have selected 4 point guards.
I think the man needs a sanity check which makes me believe the Minnesota franchise is in big time trouble.

xbadgerhustlerParticipantRTBT. u just pissed me off. LOL
1. of course you omitted the center piece of the wizards deal- RUBIO! who is, if nothing else, hype for the wolves so we’re more on the map. Additionally, he’s talented. Additionally, he gives our team world-wide appeal, although Spanish fans are not exactly as into bball as Chinese fans. Additionally, he cost the team zero dollars for two years while the economy sucks- at the same time he’s hypothetically getting better. As for the talent level of miller and foye- we were going to have to either give foye big bucks or lose him, and after watching him for a while, he’s a serviceable guard, but not anyone deserving star money….
2. 2009 was a draft of PGs so Kahn, knowing his team didn’t stand a chance anyway, went out and acquired the most valuable assets (in his mind)… maybe he picked the wrong PGs, but I don’t think that taking all PGs in that draft was unthinkable… as we can see now, ty lawson was an incredible value at 18- or whatever…. I think the only he thing he really screwed up was not finding a way to move up for tyreke evans- i think he’s a lot better than flynn.
3. i dont think we can say that flynn was a worse pick than lawson just yet, although yes, after one year, lawson looks very good. he’s also a couple years older than jonny and i think we’re seeing him at his ceiling…. as for flynn- great LEADER- we’ll see with time if he pans out to be something special.
All he needs to do is draft evan turner and everything is FINE. if he goes out and reaches for some PG, than we should be calling for his head.

xbadgerhustlerParticipantfor the record, picking john wall would not qualify as a reach- thatd be a straight steal

rtbtParticipantxbadgerhustler, although I don’t agree with everything you said, I think you made some excellent points.
1. The NBA potential of Rubio is still an unknown. I would also bet money that he never plays in Minnesota, my guess is the Knicks.
2. Minnesota is a team with a lot of needs so drafting 4 point guards in the same draft is borderline insane. It almost makes me wonder if Kahn has no perspective or understanding of what it takes to build a first class team. But in his defense, maybe he has a plan that nobody else understands [now I’m LOL].
3. Before the draft, I said Ty Lawson was a top ten draft choice. He has something you cannot coach, blazing speed. I think Flynn will be a good player but there’s no way I take him instead of Lawson.
4. When you have two selections in the lottery, using both of them on guys who play the same position is flat out stupid.
5. You made a good point when you reminded me there’s more involved with NBA trades than just the players themselves.
6. Selecting Evan Turner can certainly help erase many previous mistakes [LOL again].

McWinningParticipanti like what Kahn has done he found a steal in Hollins always had potential but needed more playing time and since hes started they have gone on a 3 game winning streak i love a three man bigs rotation of him and Al starting with Love coming off the bench their point guard position is good i like Brewer as a decent starter, i think Rubio was a good pick Derozan would’ve been really nice but he can be used as trade bait mabye centered around as potential sign and trade for Rudy Gay?
0 - Posted on: Sat, 02/06/2010 - 7:49am #253463
rtbtParticipantbirdzilla, interesting points but I think you have to dig deeper. The fact that Hollins was in the starting lineup isn’t necessarily the reason Minnesota won 3 in a row, it’s probably just a coincidence. At this point in the season, the Timberwolves are so bad that most teams come into the arena thinking it will be a walk over so they don’t play that hard.
Since other teams aren’t giving 100% against Minnesota, sooner or later they were bound to win a few games. I don’t think there are too many teams in the league who would want Ryan Hollins in their starting lineup.
Once again, when you have two lottery selections and a team with lots of needs, you shouldn’t draft two guys who play the same position. That and some of his other moves makes me lose confidence in Kahn.

pig nobsParticipantI really don’t think Gay will want to go to Minny. Memphis is finally doing good this year and are young. He will want to stay there. Drafting Rubio and lynn was very idiotic indeed. I like the Bosh deal if it somehow works, but he is not the best defensive big man. I like drafting Turner/Johnson. If somehow the bad luck breaks and they get 1st pick obviously get wall and then trade flynn/sessions/ jefferson and get a 3 and a 4 that can play D.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 02/06/2010 - 7:55am #253466
McWinningParticipantyeah its a big reason hes the kindve guy thats a good enough defender to take the main defensive responsibility off of Love and Jefferson which is their weakness and in those last three games his scoring numbers are 16, 19, and 15, hes definitely worse than Love and Jefferson but like i said i like him in the starting lineup not necessarily playing more minutes than Love.
