NorrinRaddParticipantI can see that if he plays consistent and continues what he’s doing. Haven’t seen enough of him yet to project him that high though. Also forgot about John Tonje from Colorado State and Matt Bradley from San Diego State… Oh yeah… and Mookie Cook is with Oregon now… they should be legit.

BothTeamsPlayedHard-ParticipantI watched Amen and Ausar Thompson in TBT, and came away thinking the OTE is not an ideal spot for them. They have prototypical length and athleticism. To a surprising extent, and quite impressively, they were willing to get after it defensively. Offensively, it is going to be challenging to see how their game merits lottery consideration. Their shots need a ton of work. Their balance is all over the place, and their follow through goes away from the rim. When trying to create Ausar was leaving his feet to pass the ball, and just triggering the defense to jump into the passing lane to take the ball away. These are things one would expect a college coaching staff to be able to work through with their freshmen. The time frame for the G-League Elite is not as long, which is probably more important for reworking a shot than simply having more gym time in season, but still could have been a good avenue. I don’t get the OTE experiment. It is paid AAU ball, and is a lower level than the G-League or college. I don’t know if it will serve them well.
I have no strong sense as to where Emoni Bates will fall. Like the Thompsons, he looks the part. That should help him. On the other hand, it has been reported that he didn’t have all that much interest in the transfer portal, and that he might not be worth the hassle. Sometimes revealed preference matters more than reputation, but there will be a season. On November 11, EMU and Michigan play in Detroit, so that will be an easy showcase game.
While summer tours are deceiving, often because of the mismatch of talent in the games, Daimion Collins looks like someone who could very well end up Top 10. The length and athleticism was there last year, and is why he was a Kentucky recruit, but he doesn’t look painfully thin and has seems to have grown considerably in his comfort and ability on the court.
Juan Nunez is also a much more viable prospect than Tier 8. He just went from Real Madrid to Ratiopharm Ulm in Germany, so he will get real minutes in the BBL and Eurocup, and is coming off a strong summer where he won the MVP at the U20 European Championships at just 18 years old. He is a bigger point guard, lefty, and developing as a shooter (got up to 43% this summer at the U20 tournament). He can easily end up being the next Goran Dragic, and that would probably get him right around the lottery. He is certainly going to be worth watching as he gets his first real extended run as a pro this season.

NorrinRaddParticipantThanks for the heads up on Nunez, I’ve heard Collins is working on his jumper, so you could be right on him too.

OhCanada-ParticipantI think Dariq Whitehead is clearcut top 3 prospect as of right now.
