r377ParticipantOnly prob Lakers and Knicks would be silly enough to off Cancer Kyrie a long deal…
0 - Posted on: Sat, 06/25/2022 - 9:10pm #1256550

armchairgmParticipantOnly way I take him if I am Lakers is if he gives up money and signs for MLE.
1+ - Posted on: Sat, 06/25/2022 - 9:49pm #1256551

OhCanada-ParticipantJust remember folks. If Kyrie wants to he can be on the shortlist for MVP next year. He’s capable.
1+ - Posted on: Sat, 06/25/2022 - 10:51pm #1256553

HitsterParticipantLakers cannot give Kyrie a big deal this year, he’d have to sign a MLE for a year.
Would teans want to give up a lot of assets for KD who turns 34 soon and has had a lot of durability issues in last few years. Also with 4 years on his deal he’s not in a strong position to force a trade.
Kyrie has bounced around 3 teams now and if he leaves Nets under a cloud does his reputation suffer.?

HitsterParticipantThe thought of Kyrie leaving $30 million in the babk and going to Lakers may seem strange but if this is LBJ’s last season then he can get in prime position to be the man there and with AD you have an elite duo on same timeline pretty much. Might Clippers make same offer to him I do wonder?

r377Participanteven with kyrie opting in, we knew this drama would not be over !!!
0 - Posted on: Sat, 07/02/2022 - 9:33pm #1256727

HitsterParticipantDid the Nets offer Kyrie a longer term deal as the rumours were they wanted him to take a shorter term deal and not have the problem child tied to a 4 or 5 year max deal. But with KD having 4 years left he clearly wanted Kyrie there as his main running mate. So with Kyrie likely to move on within the year Kd didn’t want to be left high and dry at the Nets for his last few years in NBA.

r377ParticipantToronto and GS look to be putting packages together.
Bit risky if they give up too many players. Durant has miles, he could easily go down injured and you have just lost 3-4 players for him, leaving a big hole !
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/04/2022 - 3:03am #1256761

HitsterParticipantI don’t see GSW being to desperate to go in for a deal maybe Wiggins, Wiseman and another asset. They have 4 titles already so not as if they are desperate to chase one.

r377ParticipantNets wanting a kings ranson !
Correct me if im wrong but Irving signed as a free agent and Durant was traded for d angelo russell ?
0 - Posted on: Tue, 07/12/2022 - 6:35pm #1256836

HitsterParticipantDurant was a S and T. Kyrie was a free agent and with him only on a one year deal and his reputation they will get minimal return for him so I guess Nets are looking to try and get a package back for KD>
One thing I noticed on ESPN is that Jazz are now “liatening” to offers for Mitchell. Does the scenario that the Nets are lookinbg for too much for KD but teams may be offering a nice package mean Danny Ainge has thought “we can probably get great value for Mitchell and I’ll see what I can squeeze out of them?”
0 - Posted on: Thu, 07/14/2022 - 9:45pm #1256855

BothTeamsPlayedHard-ParticipantThe Gobert trade has had real ripple effects. Danny Ainge is asking for the absolute house for Donovan Mitchell. https://espn700sports.com/utah-jazz/tony-jones-on-the-jazz-mitchell-rumors-knicks-interest-will-hardys-staff-more/ Ainge offered Mitchell to New York for six future first-round draft picks plus Quentin Grimes, Immanuel Quickley, Obi Toppin and Miles McBride, but the Knicks “backed away” from that proposal. Considering Toppin was the 8th pick in 2020, Quickley was the 25th pick in 2020, Quentin Grimes was the 25th pick in 2021, and Miles McBride was the 36th pick in 2021 with two years left on a scale-esce 2nd round deal, that is a request where you need to get Luka, Giannis, or KD back. Even then, you would have to swallow hard before doing it, and have confidence that you can identify more late 1st (presumably purchased from one of these pick hoarding teams) and 2nd round picks. I like and respect Donovan Mitchell, but 9 recent or future 1st round picks (and all three of the first round picks have flashed enough to make you believe they will have second contracts in two or three years) and a promising recent 2nd rounder on a very friendly contract is something you only do if you get a guy whose presence makes you a leading contender. Obviously, Luka and Giannis aren’t available, but if the Knicks were to back up the Brinks truck of assets, wouldn’t they put them in front of Brooklyn?
I think league executives have had it with Kyrie. Not showing up is a cardinal sin in pro sports. Other than GM LeBron, I don’t think any GM would want to put their job at risk by bringing in the arsonist. Frankly, I feel the same way about Ben Simmons, but it seems as though there are still teams who would bet on a front-running softy who makes a mockery of those with real mental illness or real back injuries, depending on what might allow him to get paid not to play.
2+ - Posted on: Thu, 07/14/2022 - 9:52pm #1256856

HitsterParticipantESPN had the Knicks sending 7 first rounders for Mitchell. I thought had Danny Ainge written that deal?
Ainge got a great return for Gobert, the Nets thought they wanted more for KD so Ainge decided if that was KD’s price he’d up what he wanted for Mitchell.
I could see teams possibly giving up more for Mitchell than KD given the age difference 25 vs 33. Could a trade be done with more picks conditional on a player resigning with the team he is traded to. So if Mitchell went to the Knicks and resigned a super max in a couple of years more picks could be due so the receiving team hedge their bets.

BothTeamsPlayedHard-ParticipantRings last forever. Banners fly forever. If the Knicks get Durant, they would have a chance to fly one. I don’t know if Mitchell gets them to leading contender status. The Lakers were aggressive in getting AD, and got one. The Rams still owe another future first round pick for Matt Stafford, but they got one. The cost of going for it is steep. At this moment in the NBA, there is no team that should strike fear in teams questioning if they should go for it if they can get a real game changer. I question if Mitchell is that level of star. I don’t with Durant, even if it is only for a year or two. In as much as people tried to act as though the Warriors winning the title is a continuation of their previous titles, this team was not at the level of any of their prior winning teams. The league is more open now. Maybe that is why Minnesota upped the bidding for Gobert, but he too might not be that level of star.
1+ - Posted on: Fri, 07/15/2022 - 6:31am #1256861

HitsterParticipantThere could be a dozen or so teams with the chance to be a legit contender next season if everyone stays fit and healthy and as BTPH said there are no clear dominant teams so a team which has never won and with star players may decide to roll the dice for KD.
Mitchell doesn’t strike me as a player who could be the number 1 guy on a genuine contending team yet but with a player of equal ability he’d potentially have the chance. Plus at 25/26 he still has a nice window for any suitors.
With Houston, Thunder and now Jazz looking to stockpile picks plus NOP and Knicks having assets to strengthen sooner a lot of teams holding their cards close to their chest. Throw in the Spurs another very clever Front Office looking to rebuild their team and you have Ainge, Presti, Popps and a few others all waiting to see what offers they may get knowing they hold the picks, have the cap space with a lot of teams looking to contend.
Those which play the long game could be the ones to follow.
If a team goes all in then I’m not against it as long as they are left with cap space and not unwieldly contracts if things don’t work out. The Lakers and Clippers potentially mortgaged their futures and whilst they may have traded away picks if they have cap space in that time they are always an attractive FA location.

r377Participantthey might even keep these two cry babies.
they both actually wanted to play together….let them play….
1+ - Posted on: Sat, 07/16/2022 - 8:26pm #1256873

HitsterParticipantWhat contract did the Nets offer Kyrie do we know?
The talk was they wuldn’t give him the length of deal he wanted so he called their bluff and opted in. KD can sulk and play for the Nets but he has his titles and guaranteed money. Kyrie is seen as a negative character so would many teams touch him as a FA next season unless he played a really good year this coming season and behaved himself.
You then have Ben Simmons who if he can get himself right both mentally and physically only turns 26 this week and has 3 yeaes left on his deal so what will happen.
If the Nets get the big 3 playing and in sync they could be a contender or there could be complete burn out. Kyrie plays his face again and walks off leaving destuction behind him, Ben gets blammed for not shooting and he loses confidence. KD will be a year older and his trade value declines. It will be fun in Brooklyn
0 - Posted on: Sat, 07/16/2022 - 9:33pm #1256875

armchairgmParticipantThey didn’t offer him an extension they just wanted him to play out his player option this year to see what happened before they made an offer for a future contract. If he opted out it was thought they would offer him a 1 year deal with a 2nd year option as they wanted to keep it short term to see where his commitment was.

NorrinRaddParticipantAfter all of that, they’re giving it a go with the Nets.

OhCanada-ParticipantNobody wants to trade away half their team and all their picks for the guy that can barely be relied on to make the playoffs. Makes sense to me.

BothTeamsPlayedHard-ParticipantBrooklyn will look good on paper, and it feels crazy to question a team with Kevin Durant’s potential, but does anyone really think a team with Kyrie Irving and Ben Simmons will have a season go smoothly?
0 - Posted on: Fri, 02/03/2023 - 2:55am #1258647

BothTeamsPlayedHard-ParticipantKyrie requested to be traded the weekend before the trade deadline. The arsonist had almost gone a month without setting a fire.
1+ - Posted on: Fri, 02/03/2023 - 3:38am #1258648

HitsterParticipantHe’ll be a free agent this summer but teams without cap space may well look at him. I could see Lakers probably being the frontrunners if LBJ thinks he can keep him under control and Kyrie accepts a 1 plus 1 deal this summer. That way his stay is linked to LBJ and AD.
Lakers send 2027 and probably 2029 first rounders with Russ and there is some salary filler. Nets get some assets back for post KD era and are shut of Kyrie. Lakers have a top 3 with no long term salary on cap post LBJ.
1+ - Posted on: Fri, 02/03/2023 - 5:24am #1258650

armchairgmParticipantPlease no Lakers. Stay away stay very far away.
1+ - Posted on: Fri, 02/03/2023 - 7:48pm #1258654

HitsterParticipantIf the Lakers do a rental then it shouldn’t be an issue. One draft pick for a potential difference maker to this years play off/play in run is worth a gamble. Lots of teams have done this over the years.
I can see teams being in for Kyrie but he may have a shock in FA this summer if there is a lack of long term offers. He may have to do it year by year and try to rebuild his reputation. If he does help a team have a deep run this year or next it can go a long way.
Contenders will think twice about him, rebuilding teams have young prospects developing then you have teams going to draft Wemby or Scoot so they will want nothing to do with Kyrie..0 - Posted on: Sun, 02/05/2023 - 2:50am #1258660

HitsterParticipantAccording to reports the Mavericks are sending Dorian Finney-Smith, Spencer Dinwiddie, an unprotected 2029 first-round pick and second-round picks in 2027 and 2029 to the Nets in exchange for Irving and Markieff Morris.
DFS ans Dinwiddie give the Nets two good players who will be good rotational players. Dinwiddie has played for the Nets with success before and both guys are still under 30 so it gives the team players who will be there through KD era.
Dallas have gambled on a possible rental of Kyrie but haven’t given up a huge amount and have freed up long term cap space if Kyrie does move on and if it works they have another All Star alongside Luka.
