With NBA jobs opening up make your predictions for who will get jobs as they open up:

Charlotte Hornets- Said to be looking at a defensive minded coach. Rumored candidates: Mike Brown, Frank Vogel, Quinn Synder, Dave Joerger, Jay Larranga, David Fizdale. My pick right now would be Frank Vogel getting this job.

LA Lakers- Rumored candidate or guys that want job (haha had to add this as some are jokes): Phil Jackson, Nick Nurse, Mike Brown, Doc Rivers, Scott Brooks, Quinn Synder, Mark Jackson, Terry Stotts, Juwon Howard, Alex Jensen, Darvin Ham, Phil Handy, David Fizdale, Kurt Rambis, Steve Clifford, Kenny Atkinson, Shaquille O’Neal, Master P. My pick right now would be Mike Brown getting this job.

Sacramento Kings- Said to be looking for player development and previous playoff success. Rumored candidates: Mike Brown, Mike DAntoni, Mark Jackson, Terry Stotts, Darvin Ham, Steve Clifford, Kenny Atkinson, Charles Lee. Split right now between Mike D’Antoni or Terry Stotts getting this job.

Doc Rivers wont be going anywhere. Thought Toronto would upset Philly but I definitely underestimated them. Impressed by this Philly team.

He’s whooped Nurse thoroughly. Your players can execute a strategy and in theory it should work but you gotta have the right players in the right positions. Probably shouldn’t have Barnes guarding Embiid even if its on a double. Van Vleet’s size has been exposed in this series. Full display. Probably hear Fred’s name in trade rumors and see Barnes moved to PG and off true Centers because of Doc. I bet he told Philly to be physical with Barnes as well and it worked like a charm.

Having your youngest player guarding the most physical player in the league is not gonna work. In theory it works fine but those are hard shots. Since Doc has been in Philly Embiid’s been bullying players, John Collins last year as well had to deal with him.

I think its between Philly and Milwaukee this year and probably for a while. Giannis and Embiid are just too tall and physical for anyone else in the League. It would be a great matchup and if he loses to Milwaukee it’s no reason to can him.

Terry Stotts would be a good hire for a lot of teams. D’Antoni would be a fun hire for the Kings as they would play very attacking basketball and the fans might really enjoy it.

I think the Hornets get Dave Joerger and the Kings get Quin Snyder, presuming he loses this series and is out in Utah.

No idea for LA, I’d like to see them go with an ex-player first time HC, that trend looks like it’s worked out so far (Boston and New Orleans as the brightest examples IMO). I think that might be the best way to try to find a good dynamic with LeBron, and I think a fun & out of left field candidate would be Eric Snow (currently an assistant coach on the Texas Legends and ex-teammate of LeBron’s). I don’t think that’s a realistic scenario, but I don’t really know what one even looks like. I guess D’Antoni? Sam Cassell would be a great option too IMO.

Will Hardy is from the Poppovich coaching tree so would be a sensible appointment for a team in the lottery since the mid 2000’s.

If Quin Snyder did come on the market then he’d fit what MJ is looking for as regards the Hornets next HC.

Doc may end up on the market after all after he kept Embiid in the game up by 30. Embiid started to troll our crowd and ate an elbow in the eye from Siakam as a response which now has him out indefinitely. Thats just bad coaching… really no excuse for that.

Looks like Mike Dantoni to Charlotte might happen. I think thats a great fit, especially if they wanna maximize Lamelo’s marketability.

Charlotte is split between D’Antoni and his uptempo style meshing with Lamelo and wanting to get better defensively and going with Vogel.

Juwan Howard apparently turned down interest from the Lakers as he wants to coach his lads at Michigan Wolverines next season. I’m guessing LBJ put Howard forward perhaps as Juwan was a veteran presence on the Heat’s back to back titles in 2012 and 2013. But Juwan who was part of the Wolverines Fab Five which included C-Web seems happy to stay put.

Juwan had 6 years an assistant at the Heat and with a near 20 year NBA career where he reached all star level and now making a decent job of the Michigan HC position I can see a lot of teams looking at him over the next few years.

That was old news Juwon Howard pulled out of the Lakers job when it first opened and he was a rumored candidate must have just been a slow new day for Woj to recycle the news. OUt of the 3 finalist I would rank them Stotts, Ham, Atkinson.

Darvin Ham to Lakers on 4 year deal. I liked him out of the first time head coaches the best the Lakers were looking at, but I think with his player development and being a players coach he would have been better for a younger team that was rebuilding.

Darvin has had over a decade as an Assistant and played on a title winning team as well as helped coach one. He’d have certainly made more sense for a rebuilding team but if a job like this comes up then he’s not going to turn it down. Plus are the Lakers potentially thinking ahead a few years to when LBJ will be retired and a certain Bucks player may enter FA?

Utah still pushing to ensure Quin Snyder back for next season but with hom having had hip replacement surgery and the issues with Gobert and Donovan might he sit out a year to rest up and then see what is available in 2023.

The fun spin on this IMO is Danny Ainge is CEO of the Jazz and he has never been afraid to make bold draft moves – the big 3, blowing up Boston’s team post that era to build core of this year’s finalists. So if Quin did move on and with issues between Gobert and Donovan might Ainge trade both get a young hotshot coach in and the rebuild fun begins.

Looks like Charlotte is likely going to Kenny Atkinson, but Mike D’Antoni and Terry Stotts are still in the mix.

Utah just opened up the initial candidates are Terry Stotts, Alex Jensen, Adrian Griffin, Johnnie Bryant, Will Hardy

I see Donovan Mitchell is unsettled, unnerved as Quin has gone. I wonder if it is the realisation he could well be moved on if Danny Ainge hits reset button.

Johnnie Bryant might be a very good shout for Jazz job having been AC there for a while. But again it depends what Ainge decides to do with the franchise.

As regards Quin resigning as he had 2 years on his deal could Utah demand compensation from him ?

As a neutral fan you’d almost want Danny Ainge to clean house and rebuild the Jazz. They have no picks in this year’s draft and owe Thunder a top 10 protected pick in 2024. So they have few assets really going forward but Gobert 4 guaranteed years and Mitchell with 3 guaranteed years may be at their most tradeable. There was talk that one may go and if they did would the other want to stay around for a rebuild or be given the chance.

A lot of teams would covert both guys and some teams have multiple picks this year so offers could be on the table. Also Utah if they did tank they could get a good chance at a shot at Stiffle Tower Mk 2 in Victor Wembanyama who could be a generational prospect.

Utah are certainly casting the net very wide and we haven’t got a vibe what they might do as regards the star duo. Anyone taking on the job would want to know whether they are going to take over a play off team or be part of a rebuild.

Reports have said they will not trade Mitchell and they are open to trading Gobert and since Snyder has stepped down it is actually likely they trade Gobert.

Kenny helped move the Nets forward when roster was rubbish. Not sure if he is right guy to take a borderline play off team to next level but he deserves another shot at a top job. Plus for some reason he reminds me of Ed Sullivan.

Someomne on here will be interviewed for Utah job soon.

Sam would be a good fit actually – played at a very high level, All Star won 3 titles, has had over dozen years experience as an Assistant.

I always liked how he and P.J Brown joined the Celtics Team in 2008 to give that extra bit of veteran presence to support the Big 3 and a young rest of roster then both retired as title winners.

Sam must be fairly unique having won a title in his first and last seasons too.

Interesting that Atkinson backed out of Charlotte job. Wonder if D’Antoni or Stotts get it as they were the other finalists or do they start their search over again. I personally think D’Antoni is the perfect coach for Lamelo.

Yeah I agree with that, I think Dantoni is the perfect coach for this team and maybe a bit underrated because he has never gotten over that hump and won a championship. Although the way the NBA is nowadays its the perfect time for him to make another run. His teams have structure, discipline, freedom, high morale, positive attitude and good work ethic all in a nice little package. Guys are happy to play in a Dantoni system. You get into his rotation thats a payday. His teams win and do well in the regular season and nowadays you make a good run and get a good seed in the playoffs anything can happen.

I’d imagine there must be more going on behind the scenes. Dantoni must want more than just the Head Coaching position. Maybe final say on transactions or maybe he wants to bring in all his own guys I’m not sure but I just don’t know why this deal is not done yet. Just makes so much sense.

If Mike D’Antoni is to get another head coaching gig he’d need to move fairly swiftly as he is 71 now. He has never pushed for a front office role or final say on trades/drafts before. I agree he’d be a good fit for the Hornets and La Melo would be perfect to run his system but they would need another couple of shooter to really spread the floor and get the best out of La Melo

Will Hardy ironically didn’t work under Ainge at Boston despite the team link. An appointment like this screams rebuild but with Utah not making any moves on draft night to blow it up now would be harder.
So I figure they give it another season as Gobert and Donovan Mitchell would still have two guaranteed years on thegir deals next summer so would still have good trade value. and make any rebuild take longer.
