Evan Turner is the consensus #1 at the position for the draft, but after it gets interesting.
Avery Bradley in the latest mock is ahead of Dominique Jones. I do not understand the big appeal for Avery Bradley, I have not watched much of him, but he is listed at 6-2 and 180 pounds. Unless he can play the Point he will not be able to cut it in the NBA. Personally him entering would be a mistake because he does not seem ready. Overall the draft is weak in guard play, though I think as pros they can become some good guards. The NBA game is an advantage for guards so you don’t have to be a super star guard in order to succeed.

Thank you knicksfan. I am a person that does not think that much of Avery Bradley, he’s like Tyshawn Taylor. He’s a solid player in college, but he’s not a PG as he isn’t a great passer or more than average as a ball-handler, he defends and hustles well. Great. He’s not as athletic as everyone makes him out to be and he has no true standout skill. He’s essentially a Royal Ivey clone to me.

What Avery Bradley has going for him is that he is only a freshman, but all it takes is some up and coming agent or any agent who says to him you’ll be picked in round1 is what gets him to enter. I really dislike labeling guys bust because I want to see everyone succeed to there full potential. Though what I dislike the most is guys with better talent taking a back seat to guys with potential. Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard—look at David Lee as an example.

Avery Bradley is mucho overrated. Sorry, I don’t see him as a top 10 pick in 2010.

To me my rankings would probably be

Turner, Henry, Stephenson, Bradley, Anderson, Jones

Dominique Jones is way ahead of everyone besides Turner. I would have my rankings of those guys like this
      Turner
      Jones
      Anderson
      Henry
      Stephenson
      Bradley

Lance is a year away. He should stay his sophomore year and just dominate the Big East. James Anderson is the only guy I would put ahead of Jones. Xavier Henry is not better than Jones b/c Jones is much more of a scorer who is capable of more than Henry.

I gotta say, im extremely dissapointed in Bradley myself, I was really high on him since High School, I once went as far to say that he might be the 2nd or 3rd guard taken off the board on draft day…every inch of his game has been dissapointing. I still see him as an NBA prospect….but more for 2012-1013. I think hes better than the Lindsey Hunter/Royal Ivey comparisons he draws, but not NEARLY as close to the Monta Ellis/Russel Westbrook comparisons he once drew…
    I dont see him as a top 10, hell, not even a 1st rounder…

    Heres My Rankings:
Evan Turner…..like 10 levels ahead of everyone else..
    James Anderson
    Domnique Jones
    Lance Stephenson
    Xavier Henry
Manny Harris, i dont know if you guys are forgetting Harris, or just dont like him
    Avery Bradley

I forgot about Manny Harris, I guess Evan Turner does that to you. I would put Harris ahead of both Stephenson and Henry neither are ready for the NBA. Stephenson is 100x more ready than Henry. Problem with Manny Harris is that if Anderson and Jones both enter Harris may not be taken in round 1 and decide to stay his senior year. If all 7 guys entered the draft I would say only 3 (Turner, Anderson, and Jones) get drafted in round 1. Henry would in all likelihood get drafted in round 1, but he’s not worth it now.

    Nope I’m not being bias.

Hopson is a better shooter than all those guys.  He has better size than all those players. He has just as much upside if not more than all of them. He is just as good of an athlete if not better than all of them.

He’s taller and a better shooter and athlete. But he’s not the better at anything else than those except he’s a better ballhandler (but not by much) than Henry. Add in Hopson and my list is:

    Evan Turner
    Lance Stephenson
    James Anderson
    Xavier Henry
    Scotty Hopson
    Dominique Jones
    Manny Harris
    Avery Bradley

So what exactly is most important to you all when looking for a SG?

      between 6-3 and 6-6
      Smart Shot selection
Create a shot off the dribble
      shoot off the pick
get in the lane/get to line with a minimum of 6 ft attempts per game
      not a defensive liability
Ability to take over games when necessary. I see my SG as the player who I want to either win with or lose with.

Everything Hopson has except they must have better handles and play much better defense. If you can’t dribble it makes it much harder to fully utilize your athleticism, and of course it’s always great of you can defend your matchup.

I had no idea everyone was so down on Bradley.

He’s my number two, after Turner.

If that is what you want out of your shooting guard why are you a knicks fan? I’m not sure who even starts at the 2 for them.

If that is what I want out of a SG and being a Knicks fan are two different things. I don’t agree with everything the knicks do, but that doesn’t mean I root for another team.

" Dominique Jones is way ahead of everyone besides Turner "

knicksfan7-  ^ what makes you think that ?  Because most people in general wouldn’t agree with that & NBA scouts definitely don’t agree with that.  I don’t think scouts/GMs are really excited about drafting an undersized SG who can’t shoot?  How is he going to help an nba team?

The average height for  a starting SG in the NBA right now is 6’5.5" to 6’6".

Scrotu- you really think Bradley can guard NBA SGs? Because I don’t.  He is going to be giving up too much height, they will just easily shoot right over him.  Him trying to guard 6’7" Kevin Martin or 6’7" Joe Johnson or Brandon Roy 6’6" or Kobe 6’6"…would be a joke.  That is what is hurting his stock.

Iggy- So what makes you think Herny & Stephenson will be better than Hopson?

Very good points gatorheels. To say that dominique jones can’t shoot is an unfair statement because he has a high FG%, though I will give you his 3 ball needs improvement. 37% behind the arc is not going to cut it. Also he gets to the line a lot and shoots 75% from the stripe, that needs to improve. You also state how is he going to help an NBA team even if he does not start he can come off the bench and give a team scoring if necessary. Jason Terry is 6-2 and I would consider him a successful NBA player, so I think Jones could achieve just as well.

Xavier Henry gets no love, just realize Cole, Collins and co is here…hge would be 20ppg scorer in almost every other team.

knicksfan- Don’t get me wrong D.Jones is a good prospect. Some of those other guys just have more upside.  You are right I could definitely see him providing scoring for a team.  The question is can he score effeciently in the pros without a consistent jumpshot?…I’m not sure. His ability to finish strong around the rim & shoot over the shot blockers will probably make or break him.     I have a picture of Scotty Hopson because he is from the same area as me.

Is it me or when we question any guard it’s there Jumper because when they come into college or the pros they’re used to just blowing by opponents where they never develop that consistent jump shot, and one who has it is likely to become a very good player.

Knicksfan7. 37% is a decent 3 point shooting percentage. Nothing earth-shattering, but a very solid percentage. And for a perimeter player, 75% from the free throw line is decent as well.Jones can shoot well, I don’t think it’s correct to say that guy can’t shoot.

Gatorheels, I think Stephenson is better than Hopson at everything except shooting and he’s not as good a leaper. And Henry is better at everything except maybe ball-handling (it’s close though) and possibly Hopson’s a better leaper. Both of those are extremely close to call. So both of them have better skills than Hopson in majority.
