Just watched the last three quarters of the USA vs France U19 final and…..holy crap. I think it’s fair to say this kid is the best prospect in the world regardless of age. His shot blocking is absolutely elite and there’s no reason not to believe that he is on his way to becoming a knockdown shooter with deep 3 point range. His shooting form is beautiful and he went 9/9 from the line. Obviously, he’s too skinny (he’s 17), but who cares? Holmgren was good too, but there’s no universe in which you could watch that game and not think that Victor was far and away the superior player even right now.

What I also love about him is his passion. And that should not be overlooked. When he fouled out he was visibly angry and biting his jersey etc. But then he was immediately back to enthusiastically cheering on his teammates. That’s the kind of attitude you love to see from a guy with unreal natural talent. You can tell he’s going to do what he can to maximize his ability. Honestly, he looks like a Gobert/Porzingis/Durant hybrid. Ladies and gentleman, start tanking now!

Stat line from the final: 22 points, 8 rebounds, 8 blocks in 27 minutes (fouled out), as, I assume, the youngest player on either roster by a good margin

Side note: Jaden Ivey is an elite, elite athlete. Keep an eye on him.

He is def in the “unicorn” mold of Porzingis as other prospects have been like Bol Bol. I would argue Chet Holmgren or Jalen Duran still will have something to say on who is the best prospect outside of this draft.

I agree I like Ivey and want to see how he develops he has shades of Dwayne Wade to me.

@armchairgm how much of the fiba u19 tounament (usa and France) especially USA vs France did you actually watch? Be honest. No one can say that chet is a better prospect than Victor after it. Chet looks very good, Victor looks generational. To say that “I would argue Chet Holmgren or Jalen Duran still will have something to say on who is the best prospect outside of this draft” as in this is still a comparison, is factually incorrect, for anyone who watched france and the USA. There is nothing to argue about in respect to who is a better prospect. Nothing.

the only excuse Chet has is that he isn’t a 4 or a 5 against bigger players yet. I think he would have done better as a SF next to a bigger front court. All that being said, I agree Victor is the better prospect.

That was one matchup and Chet was MVP of the tournament. He had a bad game. I am not saying Wembanyama didn’t take it to him today, I am just saying I am not basing my opinion off one head to head matchup as still at least a year or two until they will be heading to NBA.

okay, so you only watched that game, cool.
Victor’s being doing what he did versus USA all-tournament bro. Every game. And he just turned 17. The only reason he didn’t get mvp is because he lost. Even lebron haters wouldn’t; ‘t say ioudala outplayed lebron- but igoudala was the mvp because they won. If you watch France’s other games, or Victor’s pro games- you’d see, this was not just one game. Same with Chet.

I’m not convinced Chet is next years 1st overall pick. I think he needs to decide what he wants to be. If he’s going for that Kevin Durant skillset his handle isn’t tight enough and his feet just aren’t quick enough. If he wants to mix it up down low he needs to add some weight. I’m not a fan of what these kids are doing today trying to be the next Durant. They need to bulk up, playing at a high level that skinny is dangerous.

France and all the French people tasked with Wembanyama’s development seem to want to make him a PF, again like Durant. Seems like they want him to be able to share a court with Gobert. But Victor has been filling out. He looks tougher to clear out now. He’s starting to mature.

Did anyone Notice the Size Differential when Chet and Vic stood side by side? Vic looked a foot taller!!

The best was the size difference between Wembanyama and Kenneth Lofton. The US probably doesn’t win that game without his play in the 2nd half, but that is why U-whatever stuff always comes with a wait-and-see mentality. Holmgren and Wembanyama both look like they will be intermittently great and injured. They both come across as wonderfully skilled and coordinated for their size, but a stiff wind could make them land awkwardly and miss a season.
