Thinking about the Raptors, likely to pick suggs, but hopefully mobley. If they get Suggs, they desperately need a better starting center. To get Drummond to come to Toronto they’ll have to over pay him 20/ year. Dwight basically makes the minimum. What does Drummond do so much better than Dwight to be paid so much more, other than age?

Drummond as you said is much younger and he probably rebounds better, but Dwight is a much better defensive player and probably has learned to accept a lesser role better at this point. Drummond is still at the stage where Dwight was a few years ago thinking he is better than he actually is and hasn’t realized his skill set in todays NBA is situational.

Drummond at this point gets more steals for sure, and at his age he has maybe more stamina. But then maybe not. Other than that, they both bring a lot of the same things to the table. Both are very brut strong players that get you bounds and anchor a defense. Both are a bit of a liability on offense.

Drummond is a horrible defender he can’t anchor your defense his defensive IQ is very low in terms of rotating into the correct spots in team defense, he struggles to stay in front of face up bigs and in pick and roll defense.

I guess it depends on how the team is set up. But yeah I like Howard on defense better. Drummond does get some padded stats. He’s so big he really clogs the lane. Weird, unique player.

Drummond is capable of giving you a little more offensively at this stage of his career. He is still limited but at least has the ability to take advantage of a mismatch on the block. He has also made himself into a better foul shooter. He’s also younger and more suited to play more mins. Not sure if he’s really a better rebounder or if his rebounding stats are just better because he plays bigger mins. Dwight is a better defender for sure, although he can be exploited in certain mismatches. He has accepted his role and plays it well.
Drummond will undoubtedly be more expensive than Dwight ( who is basically a vet min guy at this point) but I disagree that he will get anything close to 20 mil a year wherever he goes. He was kind of exposed during the lakers playoff run and gms will see the limits of paying a guy with his skill set that much. I think he will sign for much closer to the 10 million range.

Dwight is a cancer..that’s why he’s been on like 8 teams in the last 8 years…even in the Atlanta series he was getting in the game picking up stupid fouls. Pushing people in the back, several moving screen calls, it’s like the dude has negative basketball IQ. Can’t even set a pick right.

Drummond is a cancer too. He is a ME not a TEAM player that is why Detroit and Cleveland dumped him for so little and in Cleveland’s case nothing. Dwight has matured and accepted his role and become more of a team player over the past two years.

If we assume Toronrto end up with Suggs then does that put them back as a play off team if everyone stays fit or do they hold station for a year or so to let Suggs develop if we assume Lowry moves on.. Siakam, FVV and OG are all locked in longer term so you have an excellent core there and are effectively looking for a defensive anchor to round out a good starting 5.

D12 turns 36 this year so would only be short term and taking on Drummond would eat up a lot of cap giving limited funds to have a decent bench.
One guy who did spring to mind was Richaun Holmes he is an FA and will be looking to get paid could the Raptors put a good offer to him?
Also does anyone know what part if any of Rodney Hood’s team option is guaranteed for next season as that could be a $10 million trading chip if the buyout was low.

that very well may be Drummond’s perception, but teams will pay drummond 20 million/ year (recently they have, we’ll see this summer) but dwight wont get 10 million a year… Other than age, I don’t see how drummond is twice the value for a few more boards but he is financially getting way more than twice.

Raps wont make the playoffs without a starting caliber defensive, rebounding center- idk if holmes is good enough… vut for 10-12 drummond would be a good fit.

Toronto would never sign Drummond. The guy is lost all the time and is always a step behind. Hes a really bad player.

Toronto needs 3 things from their Centers for the Nurse system to work which is why it failed this year. Shooting, help defense/switching and passing. Drummond does none of this.
