With the decommitment and subsequent release from his NLI of Nolan Hickman paired with the NBA declaration (albiet without an agent) of Davion Mintz, Kentucky is left with zero point guards on their current roster. The departure of assistants Barbee and Justus really hurt. This late in the recruiting cycle there aren’t many high quality options left. Who do you see Calipari and his new staff (Jai, Bruiser, Chin and Antigua) scoring to fill out their roster for next year?

Hearing that Marcus Carr and TyTy Washington are possibilities. Carr declared for the draft, but entered the transfer portal and I am pretty sure is coming back to college. TyTy is announcing May 15 and has UK in his top 6 with Arizona, Baylor, Kansas, LSU and Oregon. Think it is really between Kentucky and Arizona for him. Having a feeling Nolan decommitted for a reason and am guessing they get one of these two to take the helm, if not both.

I hope Marcus Carr goes to Kentucky. He doesn’t get the respect he deserves playing for Minnesota in that tough Big 10 conference. Especially after Oturu left that teams just bad its very easy for teams to target him. Throw him in the SEC and give him some weapons I think he could be a Naismith poty candidate.

Dont 4Get Kentucky added transfer Kellan Grady , he’s not a true playmaker, but played the point last season for Davidson while averaging 17 pts a game 4rbs/2assts and shot 38% from 3. Today CJ Frederick announced he’s going to Kentucky,a 6’6 wing from Iowa he shot 47% for his career.Kentucky got 2 of the nation’s best 3 point shooters in least than a month. The Wildcats were 33% as a team. Dontiae Allen isn’t a pg , but will be 1 of the most improved players in SEC next season.

The transfer market has been good to UK, as shooting was their biggest need when the offseason begun. When I posted the original post, CJ hadn’t committed but that certainly shores up the wing positions, especially if Keion comes back. Going to be nice to not worry about the rim getting dented every time someone throws up a 3 next year.

The Miss St game was incredibly fun to watch last year since that was really the first real run Calipari gave Allen, and he shot the lights out. In order for him to consistently get minutes next year, he needs to be confident enough to shoot every time he has the space and seriously improve his defense. Those two things really frustrated Cal last year. I think a big year is coming as well, and its always cool how the fanbase supports the homegrown kids.

And the answer is…CJ Fredrick, Iowa Transfer: Pure shooter, will be a junior next season, like the pickup.

Think they had 7 schollies to replace. Grady, Daimion Collins and Bryce Hopkins made 3. CJ Fredrick makes 4. But guessing they are dying for a playmaker with some shooting, scoring pop. Thinking that is TyTy, who just won the Iverson Classic three-point contest. Plus, Kentucky will now actual have shooting and guard depth, something they were really lacking last season.

The two consistent shooters last year were Davion Mintz and Dontaie Allen (who only shot 36.4% on 2PT FG’s). Looks like Kentucky at the very least is building a more complete team, do not think they are done even after TyTy. Thinking they will target the wing or another guard with the last couple scholarships. I know Sahvir Wheeler had them in his final four, though think TyTy could cause him to reconsider Kentucky as a final landing place. In a week, think Kentucky will have their starting PG.

    Thanks for the replies guys.

I think Sahvir and TyTy were great gets for the Cats. Not sure how the minutes will be distributed between the two, but TyTy being comfortable off ball makes them a really good pair to bring in together.

Cal’s Off-Season might be just as good as J. Cole’s.

Anybody know why Nolan Hickman decommitted? I thought he was gonna join G-League Ignite but he just went to Gonzaga.

The relationship he built at Kentucky was with Joel Justus who left for Arizona State. He was the guy that would get in contact early in these kids high school careers, and he and Nolan had developed a pretty strong bond. I wonder if the exodus of Joel and Barbee also played into Devin Askew also leaving. Hickman’s dad also stated that Nolan was worried about being homesick, especially after having gone away for High School. Wanted to be closer to friends and family, which Spokane definitely was for the Washington native.

Oh thanks for the info can’t blame him for wanting to stay close to home. Would’ve been cool to see him go to Arizona State to see him play with Enoch Boakye Canadian bigman who btw isn’t even ranked on ESPN’s top 100 but I promise this kid is top 20 and I’m not just saying this because he’s Canadian. Every year this happens to the Canadian kids and last possible week they usually get a huge boost in their rankings. Not that it really matters anyways.
