Who is your College basketball player of the year right now? I would go with Wesley Johnson right now. I also like the way Evan Turner is playing but Johnson plays on a way better team so I give him the edge.

It’s definitely better John Wall and Evan Turner…tough but I’d say John Wall because of his team’s success and the fact that he’s played more games

I go with Turner over Wall because Wall has some great players surrounding him. Turner has no one who makes you go wow. When DeMarcus Cousins, Patrick Patterson, and Eric Bledsoe all get talked about. Besides David Lighty on OSU, I know of no one else. Also, Ohio State went 3-3 in the 6 games Turner was out, losing to Butler/Wisconsin/Michigan and winning against Delaware State/Presbyterian/Cleveland State. I think Turner has more value than Wall. Let me ask this question.

If John Wall did not play for Kentucky would Kentucky still make the tournament or NIT?

If Evan Turner did not play for Ohio State would Ohio State still make the tournament or NIT?

My answers are Yes for Wall, and No for Turner.

If I had a vote, my vote would go to Evan Turner.

Wall has not impress me at all since SEC play I dont know why every one has been saying he should be POY. I think he should be freshmen of the year and the #1 pick but he shouldnt be POY.

The National POY has become a 2-man race. Its between Evan Turner and John Wall.

Turner is a monster and will be an outstanding NBA player, but his team is capable of playing without him. When he was injured Lighty and Lauderdale held that team down. Ohio State is a junior/senior team, with Turner (junior) as its leader. He has had a couple years of grooming. He isnt asked to lead a team of rookies in a sense.

Wall (freshman) on the other hand is asked to lead freshman and soph’s. Sure Patterson is there, but what has he really done from a leadership standpoint? He disappears. From day 1 Wall was given the keys and he has lived up to the hype. Sure his numbers have gone down, during conference play that normally takes place, because teams get the opportunity to scout you. Whether you want to admit it or not, the SEC isnt that bad of a conference in terms of bball. Teams have to pick their poison with the Wildcats, either they clog the lanes and stop Wall or consistently double down and stop Cousins. They have chosen the first option, because they know Cousins is a black hole, he wont pass out of a double team. He will accept going for 27 and 12 or 20 and 10.. He isnt even averaging an assist per game. He makes himself look good. but thats another post. If Wall gets off, he makes the entire team look good, makes some even look like lottery picks. He is making his teammates alot of money. I believe he is understanding that 14 pts, 7 assists and a win is more important then 25 pts, 3 assists and a loss. He takes over when he wants. This team would be completely lost without him, Bledsoe isnt the point guard nor the leader that Wall is. Thats what the GMs and scouts love, his athleticism and his leadership. He will sweep all the awards National POY and FOY.

Just to let you know, Im a Georgia Bulldog Fan.

Wes is definitely in the discussion and Damien James should be too even though Texas is struggling lately. Wall has a ton of talent around him; Turner puts up his without a lot of help. Right now, I would give it to Turner but there is a lot of ball left. Should be a good race

But shouldnt the player of the year make his teammates better? I mean, Turner is the man on his team.. He actually has decent players around him and they have played together for a couple seasons. He does everything for the team, any night he can get a triple double, but that doesnt lead to teammate development and thats why Ohio State isnt winning. I think Wall is in the lead because he is a more dangerous weapon. Yes, Kentucky talent but what good is talent without a leader? His team is still learning how to play together. They are still trying to use the dribble drive offense, according to the announcers from yesterdays game. He is poised, there were times during the game when Vanderbilt was getting close and you saw him taking control, telling teammates to calm down and just play eventhough he was having a off day. Give credit where credit is due. He is the focus of every team that plays Kentucky and although he turns the ball over, he turns it over attempting to get everyone involved. He could easily score whenever he wants and he has showed that, but just like the south carolina game, he made the smart choice by passing the ball at the end to a “wide open” teammate instead of forcing it, if Dodson had made the shot we would be saying how brilliant Walls court vision and basketball iq are. But he missed and now people are saying how he isnt impressive. If you cant beat them with the shot, you beat them in other areas, like assists, oh and did you see that block yesterday? Plus he isnt getting any calls, everytime he drives to the hole he gets murdered…. I respect your opinion and like you said there is alot of ball left and Im excited to see how it plays out. You cant go wrong with either player, I cant wait to see them in the NBA. Their careers will be linked together….

Don’t get me wrong, Wall is a stud. I think his vision and IQ is very high. I mentioned in an earlier post that he is too quick for himself right now. He needs to figure out when to turn it on and off. Derrick Rose knows how to do that and that is what makes him so good and hard to defend. Wall will have the better career in the NBA but I think Turner is having the better year. The guy broke his back and hasn’t skipped a beat.

And Patterson is the leader of that team. Wall is the face but I bet if you ask the players they would say Patterson.

I think Scottie Reynolds is seriously in the conversation. If the season were to end today, it’d be him or Turner.
