The 2010 Draft Rankings In Tiers

I think most GMs have a tendency towards the fallacy of trying to get All-Star Type players in the lottery and not being realistic. EVERY TEAM in the NBA has All-Star caliber players before entering any draft, that’s pretty much a given. Think about just how many team have multiple all stars, maybe only one or two each year. I think drafting for solid second option type players is more crucial than trying to go high risk, high reward and try to get a potential all star, because half the time, by the time your high potential draft picks turn into all stars (or become busts), they might not even be on your team.

If I’m the Nets, with TWO All-Star caliber players already, I’d go with someone who is more like a Wes Johnson than Paul George, just because he can make the team better right away and is a good COMPLIMENTARY player to Harris and Lopez

Not every team in the NBA has All-star caliber layers, Washington, GS, maybe Detroit and Phila (Iggy isn’t producing at an all-star level and Gordon a Charlie aren’t all-sars IMO). Pheonix? All the talks off Amare leaving and without Amare Nash might not resign, that would leave them without an all-star. Though OKC will have their lottery pick.

IMO those are the teams that might go for high risk, high reward.

I really think people are jumping on the Hassan Whiteside bandwagon a little too soon. The guy has immense potential, no doubt, but he is way to raw to assume he is going to be a superstar at the NBA level. I personally think he is at least 3 years away from making any impact in the NBA aside from being a very good shot blocker. Tyson Chandler went #2, Kwame Brown went #1, Olawakandi went #1, Shawn Bradley went #2,and didn’t make it as stars, but had great potential. I really don’t feel you can lump a guy that raw into the top teir category, Unless, it is a top teir potential. Everyone loves to get pumped up about the next great center prospect, but after seeing guys year in and out not make it despite being drafted so high, I’d only put Whiteside in a top teir potential category.

i think you should move ebanks and alabi to Tier 3
and aminu,cousins and motiej to tier 2

he isnt being used right in the west virginia system which features butler, bryant, and even jones before ebanks. he was a huge recruit coming out of high school. i still feel he has just as much potential as anyone in the draft. if he has a big time second half of the season and come tourny time i could see him as a top 5 pick… anyone disagree?

I think that if Aminu reaches his potential you can put him in that top list.

whiteside will never be superstar(2nd option for weak team is realistic) and i think that there are players like sheron collins,pittman,stephenson that can be also very good players even starters… and favors also, in best case he is 3 option, cousins will be better
