Why is it now everybody want to draft point guards so high? How many of the point guards in the league are playing on top teams and leading their teams deep in the playoffs? I’m tired of people being dumb jumping on these trends and acting like you need a good point to win games and rings if anything thats the last thing you need! If anything first you try to get a dominant bigman or a dominant wing and then you build around them last decade only 1 team won a ring with their point being their best player and that was the pistons that played the ultimate team game. And most of these teams that are top teams in the league found a point guard late in the 1st round or in the second round. In the history of the league not many point guards were the the reason teams go to the championship. Just think about all the top point guards and look where their teams are in the standings. All im saying is point guards dont make or break teams like next year Wall will look VERY good, but Cousins will take a lottery team and put them in the playoffs of all the teams in the lottery they could use a player like Cousins instead of Wall but of course they will go with Wall.

I really respect what you say about this beanz and you make a compelling argument…My only objection is that you have to look deeper. Those championship teams? Most had a great or dominant point guard to go along with the big man or swingman. Magic. Parker. Thomas. Billups. Rondo. The Bulls had Scottie Pippen, who many credit with inventing the “Point Forward” position. As far as the other champs without a standout point, each one of those had a point that did not turn the ball over and played top of the line defense. The point guard position is CRUCIAL to a team’s success.

actually Rondo was averaging 10, and 5 that year and was virtually averaging the same numbers as Chalmers his rookie season which is definetly not above average maybe average. Billups and Parker are really the only two that have been above average i agree with beanz point guard play is overrated just look at all the big men that have won titles.

Birdzilla don’t you agree though that Rondo didn’t NEED to score and dominate like he does now. Also, he was an exceptional on defense considering his experience at the time. There wasn’t one person watching that didn’t think “that kid is a player. and he’s only going to get better”

i agree that you need bigmen to win championships but guards put people in the stands. also great bigmen are few and far between.

    2008
    1. D. Rose
    2. M. Beasley
    3. O.J. Mayo
    4. Russel Westbrook
    5. K. Love

… of those top 5 .. kevin love is turning out to be a pretty good player, beasley is a pretty good player … but if you had the top pick in that draft knowing what you know now of all the players involved, would you have taken somebody other than rose? Brook Lopez was the best big who went in that draft, at least the most productive in the NBA currently and he went at number 10.

    2009
    1. B. Griffin
    2. H. Thabeet
    3. J. Harden
    4. T. Evans
    5. R. Rubio
    6. J. Flynn
    7. S. Curry

… this draft was deep at the guard position, going down to jennings at number 10 … i’ll give you the jury is still out on blake griffin since he hasn’t been able to play an nba game yet, but the rest of the draft … the guards seem to be more productive then any bigs.

I think it just boils down to taking the best player regardless of position.

The truth is simple………One position is not more important than the other! You take the best player,You take John Wall!
