    2010/2011 Prospects: Best/Worst Case Scenarios

******** BEFORE YOU BASH ON ME******Most comparisons are very repetitive (eg. John Wall to Derrick Rose) so even though I agree with comparisons such as the one above I’m going to try and be more creative so go easy on me but still let me know what you think! REMEMBER: These are BEST and WORST case scenarios so if I compare a player you like to someone who isn’t very good, just remember not everyone is a lock to fulfill their full potential! Some of the comparisons might seem questionable but just remember I’m trying to be original! K, let the bashing begin!

Overall I think you did a good job with this.  I can tell you actually put some thought into it.  A lot of these are right on the $$$..nice work

    A couple things I didn’t like:

I don’t think Stanley Robinson will ever be as good as Gerald Wallace.  His ceiling isn’t that high.  Robinson can’t score 19 points a game in the NBA, I just don’t see that ever happening.

Jerome Jordan can be better than Chris Anderson.  I’m telling you right now Jordan is a very underrated prospect.  Everybody will find that out when the draft occurs.  Most people just haven’t seen him play enough. There is a reason Tulsa is so solid & will probably win Conference USA this year.

Hopson can (& I think WILL) be quite a bit better than Nick Young. I know a lot people on here like Nick Young but he hasn’t really done anything his whole career so far in the NBA.  Hopson is one of those scary prospects that can be GREAT.  His best case scenario needs to be compared to a better player.

    Wesley Johnson to pippen

Pippen was a great passer, not sure Wesley can come close in that regard. But I can somewhat see the comparison

yea it was a good list but John Wall’s best case scenario is way better than steve francis. His ceiling is like a more athletic Jason Kidd, with less passing.

John Wall’s best case should be D-Wade

Avery Bradley to Shannon Brown is actually an outstanding comparison to me

Scotty Hopson’s best case is J.R. Smith

Craig Brackins best case is Shareef Abdul-Rahim and his worst case is Channing Frye

Lance Stephenson’s best case is Paul Pierce or maybe even Ron Artest

William Buford’s best case is Von Wafer

Willie Warren’s best case is Monta Ellis

Trevon Hughes best case is Mario Chalmers

I know the John Wall to Steve Francis comparison wasn’t the best (keep in mind I was trying to think of other possibilities) I actually think the best comparison for John Wall is Derrick Rose with a better jump shot but almost everyone says that and I was just trying to be more original/creative. But Steve Francis in his prime was a BEAST, too bad it only lasted like 3 years lol. And yeah, Stanley Robinson’s comparison should have been a poor man’s Gerald Wallace, I doubt he would ever average close to 19 points per game in the NBA. As for Scotty Hopson I se his role in the NBA being an athletic, scoring wing player much like Nick Young. Although Young doesn’t get the playing time, if he did I am positive he would average close to 20 points per game if given the minutes. Comparing him to Joe Johnson is a bit out there in my opinion. True, he is young and has a lot of room to grow but to develop into a Joe Johnson type of player, an All Star and franchise player? I just don’t see it. If anyone projected Hopson to turn into that type of player he would be considered a lottery pick, but at best I see him being a mid first round pick. I agree he is one of those prospects that can be GREAT. He has all the physical tools and fit the mold of the prototypical shooting guard but there as just so many players like that that end up amounting to nothing (Gerald Green, Qyntel Woods, Rodney Carney, etc) which make me hesitant to compare him to a player of Joe Johnson’s caliber. As for Jerome Jordan, I don’t know much about the guy so what do you think would be a more suitable best case scenario comparison? Chris Anderson is a very good player and would probably start for some NBA teams. With my worst case comparison’s I’m just being realistic. How many players from any draft class actually develop into their full potential? I am willing to guess more than half don’t.

“I know the John Wall to Steve Francis comparison wasn’t the best ”

Nah, man that is a very good comparison…its just that John Wall has a different mentality than Francis…Francis never reached his full potential because his attitude held him back, Wall has the best mindset any young player can possibly have.

Paul Pierce? Ron Artest? Stephenson might play small forward in college but his primary position at the NBA level would be shooting gaurd. True, he might play small forward every now and then but his primary position would be sg. Paul Pierce? I guess in a way he can develop into that kind of offensive player, but Ron Artest is a totally different player. His best attributes as a player is on the defensive end. Stephenson doesn’t even stand out on defense at the college level how do you except him to do that at the next level? Not only that, if you’re projecting him to be a small forward he doesn’t have the size (strength, maybe) to guard the like of Lebron James or Carmelo Anthony to be much of a defensive factor. All the other comparisons seem on point but I just don’t agree with Lance’s.

Well, maybe in your opinion Rashad is a better player. But he isn’t in the NBA anymore and Nick Young is. Rashad was a very productive player while in the league averaging 10 points per game in less than 20 minutes. As talented as he is he’s not in the NBA anymore, which is most likely due to off court issues and/or a questionable character. In my opinion Young is a little bit better than Mccants but I can totally see why you would say Mccants is better. Hopefully he can another chance with an NBA team and do something with all that talent. I thought he was an excellent prospect coming out of UNC (which again explains why I am hesitant to compare players like Scotty Hopson to All Star Guards like Joe Johnson; so many times all these prospects with prototypical tools fail to live up to expectations). Young or Mccants? It can go either way, both are good young players. I didn’t mean to make Mccants seem like a “worst case scenario” kind of player because the dude can flat out ball and should be more than capable of making an NBA team sometime in the future.

you are underating DeMarcus Cousins and you all might think I’m crazy but I believe he could be as good as the great Hakeem Olajuwon he will be one of the best to ever play the game.

He can do so much in just 20 minutes per game and his 40 minute stats are about 33ppg 18rpg 4bpg.

Kemba Walker reminds me of Kyle Lowry… and honestly I think Lowry is better than TJ Ford…

And I like the Steve Francis comparison, I’ve been saying his body and game is similar… Also kinda like Baron Davis. But yea Wall has a winners mentality (so far). I dont think Davis always has that and I know Francis didn’t either.

And honestly, I think all these players ceilings and worst cases are larger than you stated. I think a lot of what was posted is safe. Consider this, Wall has elite athleticism and drive to win (so far). Couldn;t he be potentially better than Francis?

As for Motiejunas, I cant find much video on him on the internet (and I doubt any of you can either) so I dont think its fair to even judge his ceiling and worst case.

And on that note, its ultimately most important to not get wrapped up in comparisons. These players are all totally unique psychologically, physically, spiritually, and genetically.

I think someone said, John Wall=John Wall haha EXACTLY

John Wall is across between D-Rose, D-Wade, Rondo and Kidd. Somewhere in all that you have John Wall.

monroe will go in the top 5..cousins had the chance to be great if he returns to kentucky another year..evan turner plays like sidney moncrief..moncrief was 1 of the top guards in the early 80′..jeeeezz gabbycb3 a/k/a dr. phil..lol..u know nutting bout basketball…no way is francis in the same conversation as wall…francis was a hot dog…yeah he had some good years with houston..but that trade to orlando really killed him inside..and he never was the same…wall has iverson’s attitude..magic’s court vision & jordan’s athleticism…people will be talkin bout him 30 years from now….and no way is lowry better than t.j. ford..lowery is and always will be a backup…if ford can hit the outside shot and play better defense he’ll become an allstar..

Maybe i’m wrong but i would say they are about the same skill level. Also if he ever got a consistant 3 he would be better than either.

True, Lowry and Walker might both be quick point gaurds who like to drive alot and are exceptional passers; but Lowry is alot stronger than Walker will ever be. At 6 feet he is around 200 lbs. is Walker even 180? For a point guard Lowry is an excellent rebounder. His additional bulk allows him to be a good defender. I am pretty sure Walker wont be much of a factor on the boards, not will he ever be more than an average defender. And one more thing… Are you saying Steve Francis did not have elite athleticism? Dude at his prime was one of the most athletic point guards in NBA history. And a drive to win? EVERYONE in the NBA has a drive to win so how can you even use that to support your argument?

Speaking of Steve Francis… RUDEBOY.. Wall isn’t in the same conversation as Francis? Keep in my mind I compared Wall to Francis at his prime, theres a reason he was nicknamed “Franchise”. I know Wall is a great young player but dude hasn’t even played an NBA game yet’ How about you hold on to your thoughts until after Wall gets a couple of games under his belt next year. Francis was a great player in his prime and had he sustained that level (at his prime) for his whole career we would be talking about a Hall of Fame “TYPE” of career.

And I in win, yeah. I think Felton and Jack are pretty muchy the same skill level except I think Feltons a bit better. If Felton and Jack ever played on the same team I’m pretty sure Felton would be starting

I finally read it. Overall I guess your comparisons are pretty good, and you must of spent mad time doing research, should apply this school wise. But to all the Francis HATERS out there, Youtube him and you’ll see what he’s all about. Wall’s athletic and good, but we won’t know anything about him until he steps on a NBA court. Greg Monroe compared to DC is actually pretty good, never thought of that, but a Hoya compared to an Orangeman? tsk tsk. I see him as almost developing into a Chris Bosh type of player though. For some reason, I also see Wes Johnson, becoming Danny Granger.
