valentinewhile talking to my brothers old coach who used to work as a assitant and scouting for the grizz we came aross the subject of mock drafts. he told me that the teams dont pay muh attention to those because most are just opinions of guys who dont have the budget to go to or watch alot of the games. alot of them just go by other peoples words of mouth and are very biased. he said insidehoops.com is one of the ones that they do pay attention because the guys there are pretty accurate with how a player is playing and the type of player they are because they are at alot of the games and are being looked at by some guys who have actually worked with the nba. another thing he said that interested me was how sometimes peple think a pick is a suprise pick because the persons name wasnt high on mock drafts but the player was pretty high in the mind of nba teams. he said stats does play a part in drafting a guy but not as much as how they get there stats and what nba ability they have as far as will it translate effectively. in alot of cases they think a guy is better then what some fans think which is why you see a guy get drafted early and you scratch youre head. in some cases a good player drops because of attitude and past highschool trouble that the public doesnt know about. alot of second round picks are made because a player is good but also because of the school and coach a player has played for. maybe the guy isnt as talented as a guy who didnt get drafted but they know what they will get out of the guy because of the system or if a coach like coach k, roy williams etc vouches for the kid. its usually a late second round pick. as far as mid to low majors, what taken into account with those are how they play against good teams but also the way they get there points, rebounds. for big men, do they get there points by post moves and skills or mostly becaus they are bigger and taller. with guards is it because they move well with out the ball/create there own shot or because they are quicker and more athletic. a misconception is that a guy drops because of defense. the fact is they dont expect any rookie to come in and be a good defender and the fact is most nba player including stars arent that good at defending but alot of people dont notice because they are so good at scoring. we talked about alot of stuff that suprised me that will probably suprise ya’ll about the nba. ill do another post a lil later about that

quinceyhodgesforgot to add that alot of guys might not get draftedf as high s people think because of what a team needs that gets a high pick. he said this year this hasnt been a clear ut number 2 pick so far and guys who ware considered top5-10 could go as high as 2

NorthernLights666ParticipantThat’s quite the mock draft, Cousins at #2 is definitely shocking, but not completely insane, I guess the NBA doesn’t think he has an attitude problem if it’s true that InsideHoops actually speaks anonymously to execs and scouts. Don’t you think they would also try to send out misinformation about prospects to confuse other scouts and execs though? It’s just best to form your own opinion by actually watching games.

NorthernLights666ParticipantWhere’s Hassan Whiteside on that mock? Here’s what Chad Ford said about him today in his Insider Draft Blog.
Hassan Whiteside, F/C, Marshall
I’m not sure exactly what to do with Whiteside. He just recorded his second triple-double of his freshman season (and almost logged a third). The more NBA scouts go to watch him play, the more they come back intrigued. Scratch that. Infatuated. There just aren’t many players with his physical profile. He’s a legit 6-foot-11. He’s a terrific rebounder and shot-blocker. He runs the floor like a deer. And, while far from having a polished offensive game, he’s aggressive around the rim.
Whiteside is old for a freshman — he turns 21 in June — and the word in draft circles is that, given his age, he wants to make the leap to the league this year. He’s all over the place on draft boards and teams haven’t scouted him as heavily as other top prospects. But with more and more teams making trips to watch him play and pulling up his video on Synergy, that will change soon enough. With a huge matchup against West Virginia looming on Jan. 20, you can expect scouts to be out in force to see him in action. If he can perform well against West Virginia, you’ll begin hearing his name in the lottery.
We’ve moved Whiteside up into the mid-first round. But he could easily be 10 spots higher or 20 spots lower in June.

quinceyhodgesmost times im sure if a guy is very very talented with good potential teams will over look the attitude problem. actually i know they do because of past guys who got drafted including rasheed wallace. i think he might not be up there because being intrigued isnt the same thing as a sure thing. one thing that i just though of is alot of times of of the guys at smaller schools arent better then the third best player on a good team. and if the third best player on a good team was at that small school they would be putting up the same numbers. im not saying thats always the case though.

lalailaParticipantall in all IDK about #2 but i still would rather have dominating in #2 team DeMarcus than Whiteside who looks just another boom in the nbadraft.net

NorthernLights666ParticipantWhoever gave me the negative point for the Whiteside comment, F U, what, you don’t understand sarcasm? Didn’t you see my post yesterday questioning why Whiteside was ranked so high? I really could care less about the points, it’s just funny how people love to hate on this site. You haters are lucky I post anything Insider related on here for your poor asses to read. How can you pay for internet service, but not for the Insider?

NorthernLights666Participantquinceyhodges,
Thanks for being somebody on here that actually posts about relevant things and doesn’t hate. Good post by the way, you got my point bro. It’s good to hear a different perspective like that. I just think there’s so much misinformation put out there about prospects by scouts to give other scouts and execs the wrong impression about players. You gotta just watch games to get good perspectives on guys.

NorthernLights666Participant“i think most people on here arent paying for internet. there parents are”
LOL, what percentage of people on here are either kids or are worthless adults still living with their parents or has baby’s mama paying for the Internet? I thought we were all educated folk on here!!!!
0 - Posted on: Wed, 01/20/2010 - 11:31am #248966
ckelley015Participantdo you want a prize for most points or something? its not a big deal.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 01/20/2010 - 11:32am #248959

NorthernLights666ParticipantWhat percentage of people on here draw opinions about prospects by watching games and what percentage of people on here draw opinions about prospects based on heresay? It’s a pretty disgusting number I’m sure, I’m truly not sold on anybody besides Wall and Turner.

NorthernLights666ParticipantAin’t nothing like that, like I said, I don’t care about points, just when people give negative points for absolutely no reason, but to hate, just think it’s funny.

NorthernLights666Participant“actually there are alot of guys who are still in hs or college on here. and im sure if they arent on scholarship then there parents are paying for there schooling.”
So you’re telling me we got a bunch of kids and spoiled adults on here? That makes sense, keep the negative points coming, at least I’m not a hypocrite.

0 - Posted on: Wed, 01/20/2010 - 1:46pm #249101
quinceyhodgesthis being a free country you are more then welcome to talk about whatever you want and move on and let the people who want to talk about this or that talk about it. you could have easily moved on and talked about the stuff you wanna talk about and not have even commented since you dont wanna talk about this stuff

WhyParticipantI came on here to thank Quincey for making a great post, one of the best in awhile that gave some very useful and interesting information. But then 666BlancoDiablo (great name for an adult!) comes on here and bitches about points like he’s 5 🙁
You’re definitely the hypocrite buddy.

butidonthavemoneyNegative points happen. No need to whine and insult everyone on the website. Just carry on.
BTW, it is 100 times more fun to bombard someone with negative points, after they b*tch about it.
