Greg Monroe played very well today: 29 pts, 16 rebs, 3 asts, 9-13 fg, 1-1 3pt, 4 off rebs.

This was against villanova who is a very good team. I think he should be moved up to top 5 status or near it on draft boards. Rarely do you ever find a player with this much ability. He is averaging 14.0 ppg, 9.7 rpg, 3.3 apg, 1.6 spg, and 1.6 bpg on the year, NOT INCLUDING TODAY’S GAME. last year people complained about his lack of rebounding but he is over 10 rpg this season and is also being more aggressive by shooting around 11 shots per game. this guy should go top 5 come june. what do you guys think?

well one good game isn’t going to move you to the top 5. He really isn’t great rebounder for his size which isn’t evident in college but it will be exposed in the pros. he is a good player and if he can get better at rebounding he could be really good, he is lottery pick imo.

I like that comparison lol. He does remind me of Pau. I think he’s being slept on. On the right team… He could be VERY good.

I’m not a person who is gets awed by stats because everything is relative to the context of the situation in which they are playing. Larry Hughes can score 25 points per game, but it doesn’t mean a team should want him to if they want to win. I really like that Monroe can do a little bit of everything. He can play inside, outside, put the ball on the floor, pass it, rebound, block a shot, give help to cut off penetration, etc. What I love about him is that he just has such a mature, veteran’s feel for playing the game. In games where his team doesn’t need him to be a big scorer and his best role is to take the opponent’s big man out of the paint, he will do it and end up playing a point-center role. He won’t demand touches to feed his ego, and simply does what his team needs him to do in order to win. Obviously, they didn’t win today, but the Hoyas had Vaughn and Wright in foul trouble the whole game, Georgetown is not at all deep, and they needed him to be a scorer today to have any chance. He knew what he had to do and did it. They lost a game to a great Villanova team in the final minute. It happens, but I have a hard time remembering coming away more impressed with a 19-year old big man than I have with Monroe. Barring injury, I cannot see a way in which he does not have a long, successful NBA career.

I don’t necessarily think top 5 in this draft would be the spot for him but he is very versatile but the thing is he is not really NBA athletic in terms or jumping. I watched him play one game and he does not elevate as well and that will hurt him in the NBA but he can do some many other things that he can be a Odom type player without the defense and be a perfect 3rd option unselfish guy that many team need. Also he is a mismatch for a lot of people on offense

If Mehmet Okur can be an all-star so can Monroe.

He still has some holes in his game but his improvement over last season is very encouraging.

the gasol comparison is good, both good passers, good with both hands, ok defence but no great shot blockers. it fits.

You said odom without defence as if to say odom plays defence.

I like the Pau comparison but he also kind of remind me of Aldridge, because I actually think Pau is a better rebounder than those 2.

lets not get too ahead of ourselves
gasol is one of the best bigs in todays nba
if he were in this draft he would go 1 or 2 for sure
