sorry yupyup, but not even close. TMac was an amazing ball handler at 6-8 who could run the point if he wanted. He broke his man down at will and was one of the best at gathering himself to pull up for a jumper. Ariza is not a good ball handler by nba wing man standards. Also, his shooting is, especially off the dribble, nowhere close. And Ariza plays much better defense then tmac. I’ve watched Ariza, and even though his numbers are better he has had some terrible shooting nights. Basically he is scoring more because he has more of a green light. If he was in LA stil, he would be around 13 points a game and a 5th option.

TMac was trully mvp candidate worthy in his prime.

my bad yupyup, i called you tezo. Anyways, ariza has great atheltic abiltity and he is defenitely getting better. But i think his offense is still years away from even scratching what TMac brought in his prime.

sometimes when i watch the rockets i see some similarites. they have same body and are both great athletes. But I think Ariza’s numbers this year have been a little misleading. He is still missing a lot of shots and his shooting form doesn’t look that great. He is a third option on a contending team imo.

I ve watched every rockets game this season and Ariza has as much athleticism as Mac. He also has some of the best instincts of any perimeter defender in the league. In case you didnt know he is a better perimeter defender than Ron Ron. But he is extremely inefficient of the dribble. Mac is light years ahead as an offensive player but Ariza has the edge as a defender. Good thought provoking post.

Ariza strikes me as a Caron Butler type player, he can score but he is suited to a 2nd or 3 rd option and is out there for his defense mainly.

with what a lot of people have said…hes their go-to-player and hes only averaging 17 ppg…i think hes a 13 ppg type guy on a regular team..and by regular i dont mean significantly depleted by injuries (mcgrady/yao)

Ariza is shouldnt be mentioned in the same breath as TMac (a player about as gifted offensively as any player to play in the NBA).. Ariza is a spot-up shooter who is trying to do too much on the Rockets hence his low shooting numbers… Ariza is a 3rd to 4th option lockdown defender on a championship team (see LA Lakers) he isnt and will never be a second option on a championship team, he isnt that type of player.. Ariza IS NOT a playmake and, he is limited off the dribble at this point Ariza is a overrated… I think he is one of the best defenders in the league and he needs to stick to his role cause I dont believe he is goning to get any better.. The Rockets may not even make the playoffs if they dont find another legit scorer and if they do they will be out in the first round as a 7th, or 8th seed…
