As I continue to call out NBA players (see Amare Stoudamire averages 6 rebounds), I now turn my attention to Rashad McCants and Brandan Wright, who are both BIG TIME disappointments for different reasons.
McCants actually put up decent numbers a couple of years ago in Minnesota, but his attitude has been well chronicled. He should be in the NBA (even had a tentative contract with the Houston Rockets and my Denver Nuggets was also really interested), but he isn’t. What a shame, because he’s only 25. Can anyone say Ron Mercer!!! I’m almost ready to call McCants a flop.
Wright, well he just sucks and he’s never seen the court. He played in 5 games in 2007, and 6 games in 2008. Guess what, he hasn’t played at all this season. At times he’s been hurt, but so what. I don’t care anymore. Someone get this guy out the NBA.

I think its the other way around Larry Hughes owes Gilbert Arenas half of his paycheck…. NO WAY Hughes should have gotten paid the amount of money he got paid….

Um….Larry Hughes was the leading scorer on the team and led the NBA in steals that season….It was his team not Arenas.

What season are you talking about 04-05??? Arenas was the leading scorer (25ppg) and the go to player in the clutch… Hughes lead the league in steals cause he plays Allan Iverson defense thats probaly why they couldnt play in the same back court.. His shooting SUCKED and he missed 20 games and he was the 4th best player on his team… Arenas was ballling that year…

what year did larry huges lead the team while gilbert was playing? and you make no sense about the wesley johnson bandwagon….so basically any player that hasnt been named from this poitn on that ends up being very good no one is allowed to be a fan unless they are the first to mention him???..that makes no sense

During Larry Hughes final season in Washington, he led the team in scoring, it may have been 22 points per game, but I’ll have to check nba.com. I’m pretty sure it was 22 though. Also, the fact that Larry Hughes played the passing lanes and played defense like Iverson makes no difference. It’s hard to led the NBA in ANY category. And if it was so easy, why didn’t Arenas or Iverson or the remaining 246 players in the NBA lead the NBA in steals, lol. Why did the light just so luckily fall on Larry Hughes??? He played good defense and offense that year. Gilbert was the third option on the team because you forget that Antwain Jamison was there.

Billyk I’m giving you a point. Areans was the leading scorer over the team. He got hot for a stretch when Hughes got hurt.
But Hughes was the number 1 option when Areans got there and he was the go to guy, and also led the NBA in steals beating out the other 247 players in the league and making him an all-around player.

Jamison a bunch of games and so did Hughes while Arenas was tearing it up.. As far as Hughes “playing the passing lane” he was supposed to be the defensive stopper but he wasnt stopping anybody thats why the let him leave and brought in Butler..

I disagree leading the league in steals doesnt make you an “all-round player” in the matter of fact Hughes is far from an “all-around player” he can’t shoot, average playmaker, overrated defender and isnt mentally tough… Who is Larry Hughes an “all-around” player???

I think if you ask people on this site, most would say he’s an all-around player. He can play point guard, shooting guard or small forward. He plays good defense. And while you said he was supposed to be the teams’ defensive stopper, how come it wasn’t Arenas? Why not Jamison. Why was he the so called “defensive stopper” in Cleveland. Why couldn’t these teams have made some else the stopper instead of designating Hughes. Could it be beacuse he’s an all-around player, lol.

  Yes Hughes has a decent handle but he is a below average playmaker and can “fill in” at small foward but he is too weak to play small foward.. He on-ball defense is overrated he couldnt stop anybody in Cleveland and they traded him for Ben Wallace because his defensive SUCKED and he couldnt play in Lebrons shadow… Arenas and Jamison are offensive player NOT defensive players… Hughes is a “defensive stopper” based on reputation coming out of Saint Louis and early in his career when he actually tried to STOP his man…

I remember when Hughes came out of St. Louis (and he only went there to help get medical attention for his little brother who later died) and he wasn’t known as a defensive stopper. His was, at the time, at light quicky point/shooting guard. There was nothing about his defense.

At Saint Louis he was actually a pretty good defender he was just a better offensive player.. I think Larry Hughes is a good player but not a 70 million dollar player… He is living off of reputation..

His contract was for 6 yrs and $48, If I remember correctly. I’ve been wrong once today, so I’m only guessing. Sometimes my mind plays tricks on me.

He had shoulder surgery so he is already out for this year and in 07 he played 38 games as a rookie under Nellie. And in 08 before he got the injury that caused his surgery he was starting and played 38 games and started 22 and offensively was very good. This summer going into training camp he gained 15 lbs and was called the best player in camp above Monta and AR. But then he was forced into surgery. Get your facts straight before you do this type of thing. Saying he sucks is just plain dumb, offensively he has been good and defensively his shot blocking per minute are very good and has great length and plays sollid.

McCants has great talent, problem is he’s a headache to coach and he’s undersized. He’s listed at 6’4, but he seems more like 6-3 to me

He is just working out.. waiting for a team to make him an offer. He must have really been a problem in the locker room I’m guessing. That is why teams are staying away from him. I have never seen a player so young, with plenty of potential left, & that has averaged double figure scoring for his career not be able to find a team to play for. I’m watching the Bulls vs. Hawks game right now. Chicago could definitely use McCants.

as a Blazer fan with Outlaw Rudy Batum oden mills and pendergraph all out for more than a month (even our coach had to have surgery) i know we could really use Mccants.

I agree that McCants would be a great fit for the Bulls…he’s one of those guys that should be playing but he really might have burned some bridges with his attitude, but there’s no doubt he’s a gifted offensive player with the ability to be a good defender at times.

Like I said, McCants reminds me of Ron Mercer. Ron was out of the league at 28. I couldn’t believe he fell so fast…

hes 6’4 but like someone said alot of teams dont wanna deal with him because of his attitude. teams will deal with that if you are a star or bring alot to the table.
