The8thDeadlySinParticipantBy Mark J. Miller
In the past few days, the word was that Andre Miller(notes) was the most available person on the Portland Trail Blazers’ roster but now it’s looking like that honor goes to Jerryd Bayless(notes), according to Dwight Janes.
Bayless has apparently asked the team to ship him off somewhere – anywhere – else. He’s reportedly frustrated with the few minutes of playing time he’s getting.
If he wanted playing minutes, the 21-year-old could have gotten those if he’d stayed at Arizona past his freshman year. If he wants dollars … well, that’s a different story. That was on Yahoo! Sports.
Where do you think the best place for him to go is??
Also, should the Knicks try to get him? I think they might be able to work Curry/Darko in somewhere because the Blazers need a backup center. IDK who the Blazers would use to even up the salaries.0 - Posted on: Tue, 12/08/2009 - 6:48am #236560

BlazermannParticipantthey dont play him at all and he is better then steve blake and the dont need a true point with bradon roy on the wing handling the ball
0 - Posted on: Tue, 12/08/2009 - 7:05am #236562
quincey hodgesobviously hes not better then blake..hes not a point guard and people need to get that through there head. his best bet is at shooting guard where he is undersized and isnt a great shooter. i cant think of a team he can go to where he will be a starter

bkballerParticipantI WOULD LOVE JERRYD BAYLESS ON THE KNICKS.
if there are any blazer fans out there would you want anything from the knicks?0 - Posted on: Tue, 12/08/2009 - 7:17am #236565

D_LegendParticipantIf Monte Ellis is capable of playing pg on and off so can Bayless
0 - Posted on: Tue, 12/08/2009 - 7:31am #236566

Sorry.Winning.ParticipantBayless to Phoenix? hometown kid to back up Nash would be nice
0 - Posted on: Tue, 12/08/2009 - 7:39am #236567
quincey hodgesbayless isnt ellis though. no matter how much someone wants to compare them the fact is they are 2 different players. and ellis was known as a better shooter before he even came to the nba
0- Posted on: Tue, 12/08/2009 - 8:29am #236574
whiteflashParticipantNo he wasn’t, Ellis was thought of as a slasher that needed a lot of work on his shot. Bayless needs to be moved. He has as much talent as anyone in his draft class. He’s strong, ridiculously athletic, has one of the best 1st steps in the league and when he’s in a rhythym can really shoot the ball. His problem is he can’t get a rhythym going in Portland ’cause he’s never on the floor for more than 5minutes at a time. Right now he’s probably still a backup somewhere else, but as soon as next year he’s a starter and within a couple of years a possible all-star. Don’t sleep on this kid.

quincey hodgesMonta Ellis NBA Draft Scouting Report
May 22, 2005Offensively, Ellis is an excellent one on one player. He excels in the in the triple threat position and can get his shot off in many ways, even in tough situations (for good and for bad). His first step is excellent, but so is his 2nd and 3rd. His handle is just average for an NBA point guard at this point, but it’s still very advanced for a player his age and will get better as long as he continues to work on it. His crossover is strong, and he’s good at changing directions, being able to step back quickly and elevate for a pull up jumper. He gets to the line an awful lot as he has no problem putting the ball on the floor and going all the way to the rim, but he also combines that with excellent shooting skills to make him a very tough guard.
http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Monta-Ellis-289/
excellent shooting skills

quincey hodgesand bayless is never on the floor because hes not good enough right now to get the minutes. and he obviously doesnt show enough in practice to earn those minutes. like i said during the summer…summer league is different from the regular season
0 - Posted on: Tue, 12/08/2009 - 8:56am #236583
whiteflashParticipantHe’s not on the floor ’cause he’s caught in a numbers game. Channing Frye was caught in that same game, gets moved to a good situation and is having a career year. You really can’t be this dense.
0 - Posted on: Tue, 12/08/2009 - 9:03am #236586
quincey hodgeslast year bayless only had blake to contend with didnt he?..frye had aldridge, priz oden…big difference. and i wouldnt say fry is having a career year. his numbers are basically the same from his rookie year…if he could contribute anything that would help them win then he would play more then he does
0 - Posted on: Tue, 12/08/2009 - 9:13am #236590
McWinningParticipantproblem is they already have their scoring sparks off the bench Rudy and Miller and that’s what he is right now hes a decent defender too interesting to see how he does with Rudy out 14 points in 27 minutes yesterday this could be when he breaks out remember last year when Blake went down he had some good games i still think hes a good fit because hes a scorer who doesn’t play point guard really which is what Roy is and is a good defender he mainly needs to work on his outside shooting.
0 - Posted on: Tue, 12/08/2009 - 9:19am #236594
quincey hodgesif he proves in a real game consistantly then ill start to think he is more then he is. that jump shot is really hurting him and although hes prtty fast there are guys who are faster that wont allow him to blow by them. he’s not in a good position skill wise because he doesnt have consistant pg abilities and hes small and not a good enough shooter to really be a factor at the shooting guard position
0- Posted on: Tue, 12/08/2009 - 9:27am #236599
whiteflashParticipantThere isn’t anyone in the league that can stay in front of him consistently. Also, the year before he had both Blake and Rodriguez in front of him, and Roy, Webster, Fernandez etc… in front of him at the off-guard spot. I personally think he’d be better as a 2 with a big point in the backcourt. His value is as a guy who gets buckets, and he’s proven that when given time he does just that. Now they have Dre Miller so it’d be great but he’s obviously not getting the nod over Roy. I’m tellin’ ya’ll, don’t sleep on this kid. Wherever he goes he’ll produce if given minutes. And, he’ll earn those minutes anywhere else he’s just on a stacked Portland squad where only a few guys get the share of time.

McWinningParticipantoops i meant 14 in 17 minutes yeah his jumper isnt that great but its not awful if he gets a jumper he could put up 25 on bad team right not 20 hes a great slasher.
0 - Posted on: Tue, 12/08/2009 - 9:26am #236597
quincey hodgeswow 25 on a bad team?..i cant agree with that especially if hes the focal point on offense where defenses are set to stop him. thats a big jump..fro 6ppg on a average/slightly above average to 20ppg
0 - Posted on: Tue, 12/08/2009 - 9:32am #236600
McWinningParticipantlol i said 25 if he gets a consistent jumper.and right not hes averaging about 20 points in forty minutes he might not quite get that much playing time but hell get more plating time and he has enough of a jumper to keep the defense honest.
0 - Posted on: Tue, 12/08/2009 - 9:32am #236601
td8118ParticipantI think hes one of those players thats getting hyped up because hes not playing….theres obviously a reason hes not playing, they are stacked at the guard spot and hes a similar problem to Miller in that he needs the Ball alot and the conflicts with Roys rythym….However if you are going to say “he as much talent as anyone in the class” Rose, Mayo?….then they would have to find him playing time….As a knick fan Im not that interested in him, hes not a true PG, i think we should wait for Rubio i think we can get him
0 - Posted on: Tue, 12/08/2009 - 9:39am #236602
quincey hodgesthere isnt anyone in the league who can stay in front of him???..are you serious????…and you base this on what?..hopefully not summer league and he damn sure hasn’t blown by every guard who has checked him everytime in the regular season so what is this based off of?….and i totally agree td8118…and if he couldnt get more minutes behind rodregez or blake (who are both average and below average starting guards) then that should tell you something right there
0 - Posted on: Tue, 12/08/2009 - 9:48am #236611
whiteflashParticipantI base that off of every game I’ve seen him play when he felt like going to the rack, he got there and there wasn’t anything any defender could do about it. He has one of the best 1st steps in the league, easily.
0 - Posted on: Tue, 12/08/2009 - 9:48am #236612
SlimParticipantnumbers game,
his shot selection is just like Brandon Roy both need ball in hands
Steve Blake has proven he can hit the 3 like a vet, and coach trustsBlake and Roy over Bayless and Roy
its a numbers game, take it from me MR. DNP-CD
0 - Posted on: Tue, 12/08/2009 - 9:51am #236613
quincey hodgesbest first step in th league..lol..riiiiiight..if what you said was true he would score alot more and turn it over alot less and play alot more. ive watched him play and he doesnt get into the lane everytime he wants.. one of 3 things happen if you can…you get it dish and get a ast, score, or get to the freethrow line alot. he does neither. and its more then a numbers game its a talent/contibute to help the team win game
0 - Posted on: Tue, 12/08/2009 - 9:54am #236615
SlimParticipantif he cant help the team then trade him for someone who can, both parties are happy
and this team is depleted at so many spots its crazy
0 - Posted on: Tue, 12/08/2009 - 9:58am #236616
quincey hodgesthey do need to trade him. although a team isnt just gonna trade a guy just to make him happy. thats not very good businessand the nba is a business. if they can get a player or players back who can help then they will trade him. but i dont think anyone would be willing to give up a real good player or draft picks for him
0 - Posted on: Tue, 12/08/2009 - 9:59am #236617
bkballerParticipantget a three team trade, not sure who the third team is but blazers don’t have large expiring contracts so…
knicks get: bayless and expiring contract, maybe 2nd rounder
blazers get: lee and jeffries0 - Posted on: Tue, 12/08/2009 - 10:03am #236620
bkballerParticipanteveryone wins, blazers get some size they need after oden went down, plus they love lee
knicks get to shed a little more off their cap for 2010 by trading jeffries and get another young piece for the future0 - Posted on: Tue, 12/08/2009 - 10:03am #236621

The8thDeadlySinParticipantDang. Lee and Jeffries? Those are 2 starters for the Knicks. You want to trade them for the 12th, unproven, man on a team???? Come on bkballer.
0 - Posted on: Tue, 12/08/2009 - 10:03am #236622
quincey hodgesi dont think even the knicks would be dumb enough to let lee go for that
0 - Posted on: Tue, 12/08/2009 - 10:11am #236627
bkballerParticipantok what if the third team involved is houston and instead of lee and jeffries its lee and curry with curry going to houston, and the knicks gettin tmac back
so something along the lines of…
knicks : bayless, tmac
blazers: lee
houston: curry, batum, knicks 2nd rounder0 - Posted on: Tue, 12/08/2009 - 10:13am #236629

The8thDeadlySinParticipantLets not turn this into a trade machine. If they trade him, I highly doubt they will get something that helpful in return. They will get an expiring contract or a draft pick at most. Bayless isnt going to cause one of the biggest trades, as far as names go, this season.
0 - Posted on: Tue, 12/08/2009 - 10:13am #236630
quincey hodgesdo the numbers add up?..plus no one wants curry or his big contract that doesnt expire after this year. and what can bayless do that nate doesnt do?..neither is a point guard. both would probably need to score to be effective
0 - Posted on: Tue, 12/08/2009 - 10:15am #236632
bkballerParticipantid be willing to throw nate in anywhere, perhaps to houston since they might now be getting enough and since nate is in the knicks doghouse and wont get resigned
0 - Posted on: Tue, 12/08/2009 - 10:18am #236634
bkballerParticipanti didnt check the numbers but they are pretty close. Curry would be a decent gamble because they don’t have yao and you need size to compete in the west. Hayes as your center wont cut it in the playoffs. Letting curry get healthy could help their playoff run. Meanwhile if it doesnt work out, he will be an expiring contract next year and can easily be moved then.
As for nate he is likely going to be gone this summer. Main point for the knicks is they get someone young with loads of potential that will be here past 2010 and get enough money to possibly sign 2 free agents.0 - Posted on: Tue, 12/08/2009 - 10:22am #236636
quincey hodgesthats if currycould make a difference…he cant…hes no better then the guys they have playing center now and he was never a good rebounder plus that team is full of hard workers….curry has never been confused with a hard worker. houston knows they wont win a title this year but they can make the playoffs with or without curry. at least without him they dont add a big contract and cant sign a good free agent
0 - Posted on: Tue, 12/08/2009 - 10:25am #236642
bkballerParticipantHopefully Curry proves his worth before the trade deadline for them then…
0 - Posted on: Tue, 12/08/2009 - 10:26am #236645
quincey hodgesno one is gonna want him. and that contract is what they call a poison pill. i hope youre not banking on someone wanting him or that contract
0 - Posted on: Tue, 12/08/2009 - 10:37am #236653
Spurs2020ParticipantI really like Bayless and I was hoping the knicks were gonna take him instead Danilo.
I think its unfair to say “he can’t get minutes over blake, so he sucks”….. Andre Miller is definitely a better player than Blake and even he can’t steal the job from him…..why? Cause brandon roy has voiced that he prefers playing with blake…. For bayless to have to overcome not only blake on a day to day basis, but the fact Roy doesnt like him, is really not a good position for him…. and then to make matters worse they bring in Andre Miller.
Whoever says he can’t shoot or doesnt have a consistent jumper is crazy…..
“Gets great lift on his jump-shot, with range well out to the NBA three His pull up jumper is magnificent; with the elevation, balance, and quick release, he is virtually able to shoot whenever, and over whomever he desires”There is nothing like getting game exp… Bayless has to look over his shoulder after every mistake to see if hell get yanked…. mayo, westbrook, rose, were all put in situations where they were allowed to learn and make mistakes and improve….
I hope he gets traded to a team that “sincerely” tries to develop him…. because the blazers simply havent given him the attention he deserves…lets watch and see
0 - Posted on: Tue, 12/08/2009 - 11:02am #236670

GoodbyeChandlerParticipantportland’s GM is not that desperate to get a backup c. also he wants to keep Jb because he is in the future plans for JB. in other words, he will have to wait to get time.
0 - Posted on: Tue, 12/08/2009 - 11:27am #236680
whiteflashParticipantQuincey, your reading comprehenion rivals a third graders. I said one of the best, not the best. You don’t have to take my word for it, just watch him play. I really don’t get how you clai to have played overseas yet you fail to understand very simple basketball concepts.
0 - Posted on: Tue, 12/08/2009 - 11:32am #236685

the I in winParticipanti would say phoenix but i don’t know what the suns would give, robin lopez mabye?
0 - Posted on: Tue, 12/08/2009 - 12:29pm #236706
quincey hodgesno bayless isnt better then blake…bayless is barely a pg while blake is a good pg. roy isnt to blame. and white ive watched him play..if he could do all thses things then he would play more period. he isnt a pg and hes not as good as the other guards there. you can say he can do this or that or hes this good or that but im a proof person and being a third string pg is not proof. you can call names or insult all you want..but thats not gonna change the fact that bayless is a third string pg and thats what he will be untill he proves he can take someones spot
0 - Posted on: Tue, 12/08/2009 - 12:32pm #236709
j1232eParticipantbayless might be a backup pg in a few years, but all this hype that he should be a starter right now is ridiculous. Blake is a very average starter, if bayless cant recieve playing time it is because he has a flaw in his game!
0 - Posted on: Tue, 12/08/2009 - 12:39pm #236715

gatorheelsParticipantI don’t know… sure Bayless isn’t a pure PG but I think he is starting to outplay Blake this season. Look at the stats. Bayless is almost as productive as Blake even though he only plays 10 minutes a game while Blake plays 30! Plus Bayless shoots a higher FG% & free throw %. Blake is a better 3 point shooter. I’m really not that high on Bayless but I think he deserves more playing time.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/teams/stats?team=por
0 - Posted on: Tue, 12/08/2009 - 12:39pm #236716
quincey hodgesexactly…im really not undertanding why some people on here continue to hype him when he hasnt proved he deserves it yet..cant count college or summer league because neither is the nba and its not like hes playing behind chris paul or d will…hell ty lawson is playing behind billups and looks wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy better then bayless..bobby brown plays behind cp3 and collins in n.o and looks better and performs better as well as the european out in phx..gordan garic or something like that
0 - Posted on: Tue, 12/08/2009 - 12:43pm #236720
quincey hodgesits easy to think that looking at stats but the things blake does that helps the team win bayless doesnt do. bayless looks to score first 2nd and then pass. also hes does most of his damage against other teams second unit. and portland has shown they want there pg to hit three point shoots and set up first instead of trying to score first
0 - Posted on: Tue, 12/08/2009 - 12:44pm #236718
NYK2010ParticipantMaybe if he wasn’t playing in this slow half court offense he’d be better.
Trade him for a pick this year or a big man either way they need to change up the PG situation.
There just messing up his trade value it seems.0 - Posted on: Tue, 12/08/2009 - 12:46pm #236726
quincey hodgeswhos gonna give up something of worth for him?..i dont see teams beating down the door to send them anything worth much to get him
0 - Posted on: Tue, 12/08/2009 - 12:47pm #236727
j1232eParticipanta team would be foolish to trade a lotto pick for bayless right now! maybe a protected first for a couple seasons, but a lotto now for bayless would be stupid.
0 - Posted on: Tue, 12/08/2009 - 4:41pm #236796

Sorry.Winning.ParticipantSuns maybe trade a guy like Alando Tucker since Rudy is now injured, I would say Robin Lopez or Louis Amundson but I think the suns really like Louis and they dont want to give up on Lopez just yet but I’m not sure
0 - Posted on: Tue, 12/08/2009 - 4:50pm #236803
QHaynes20I have a Idea of a Knicks-Blazers deal
Knicks Sent
David Lee
Darko MilicicPortland Sends
Jerryd Bayless
Martell Webster
2nd round pick0 - Posted on: Tue, 12/08/2009 - 4:54pm #236805

Bryant24ParticipantI always been a bayless fan since i first saw his high school game on espnu he can be a great scorer and i dont know what quincey hodges is talking bout cause bayless is a terrifc mid ranges shooter he’s not the typical pass first point guard but i think he can get the job done and he deserves more playing time than blake. Bayless reminds me of chauncey billups but more athletic their both big strong guards.
0 - Posted on: Tue, 12/08/2009 - 5:13pm #236811

gatorheelsParticipantQHaynes- I like that trade idea. Knicks are giving up a little too much but I doubt they will keep Lee after the season anyways. So yep if they can get some value for Lee they might as well pull the trigger. Then again who knows, maybe the Knicks plan on trying to resign Lee?
0 - Posted on: Wed, 12/09/2009 - 1:36am #236851
QHaynes20200% chance the Knicks are not gonna sign D-lee
0 - Posted on: Wed, 12/09/2009 - 5:48am #236867
quincey hodgesmaybe because if a guy doesn’t play a lot nor do awhole lot when they play i cant call them great at anything because they haven’t proved it. maybe its just me but i need proof over a period of time with big minutes. untill that happens i will never say a player is great or even real good at a particular part of the game
