Suns backup PG

no pg prospects besides john wall and maybe kemba walker, but i like trevon hughes of wisconsin in the 2nd round. kid plays tough.

I think they should look for a future starter at the position, but outside of Wall, who would they go after??

It doesn’t look like Pheonix has a first round pick due to trades, but I think Sherron Collins would be a good fit for their system, he has taken a step back this season and tried to distribute the ball more rather than being a shoot first pg. He is also extremely quick and KU runs the ball and creates fast breaks so the transition wouldn’t be as difficult. He will most likely be a late first/early second round picks so maybe they swap him for 2nd round picks next year or something.

they dont have a first rounder this year. the thunder owns it, but dragic isnt amazing right now but hes coming along. he plays very well when he is aggressive

Trevon Hughes is a good player to me. He reminds me alot of Mario Chalmers, with slightly better handles

Earl Clark has some major potential, but could you imagine Ty Lawson in that system?

As far as this draft goes, I think their best bet would to try to trade up for Collins, but Ray Felton is a free agent next year he could do well as a backup there, but he may want to pursue a starting job and another 2010 FA is JJ Barrea, I think he could also fit in well in Pheonix, so could Luke Ridnour who is also a FA

i think sergio rodriguez is a free agent this year… hes resurected his career in sacramento hes a spark off the bench who just gives out dimes and drives to the hoop he would be perfect for the suns style of play… also amazing court vision and has improved his jumpshot and cut down on the turnovers and increased the assists

He’s been in the NBA for 2 seasons, we all know his strengths and weaknesses…I can bet if the Suns make a move this off-season, it will make most of its moves towards either :

a.) Finding someone to replace Amare in the lineup, if of course he decides to leave. Or
b.)Finding a point guard to be the PG of the future..

Dragic is a quick playmaking PG, with a mediocre/below average shooting stroke, poor defense, and a weak frame. He’s like Nash without the ability to hit alot of jumpers….and he’s even weaker. I’ve seen him play plenty of times, but he would be a HUGE liability on D if he played starter minutes. An even bigger liability than Nash…

yeah i agree Hughes would be good dont think hes near as good of a defender as Chalmers but he has the potential to be like him maybe offensively. their just are many good pgs this year in the draft i think maybe Bayless he could put up huge numbers if hes given a chance to score and hes rotting on the bench in portland.

Americans are spoiled and always expect instant results in all aspects of our lives. Most people don’t understand how difficult it is to transition to another culture, a new language, and finally, from European to NBA style basketball. And let’s not forget that Dragic was only 22 years old last year and had to listen to the criticism and complaints of impatient Americans. How many people on this forum think they can go to a foreign country, adapt to a totally new culture, learn how to speak a foreign language, and play a radically different style of basketball, and believe they can make those adjustments seamlessly?

With all of those changes in his life, Dragic clearly had a terrible season last year. It was no surprise to me that his confidence was shattered early on and he never recovered. But you know what, Phoenix coaches apparently saw a lot of potential in him during practice, so they supported the guy, which was the right thing to do.

I watched Phoenix play twice this year and Dragic looked very good as a backup PG for Nash. I couldn’t make any kind of intelligent assessment in the limited time I saw him, but he appeared to be very fast, an aggressive driver to the basket, and a more than adequate passer. Unfortunately, it also appeared as if he plays Steve Nash style defense. I noted that in last night’s blowout, he shot 5 for 6, which is good even in practice.

In sum, let’s give the young man a little more time before we start making definitive comments about his abilities or lack thereof.

As a little afterthought, let me bring up B. Udrih from Sacramento. Many people on this forum only 4 or 5 weeks ago were claiming he was a horrible PG. I in turn pointed out that he was injured most of last season, plus he was the PG on a team that was the laughing stock of the NBA. Who were you going to set up on last year’s team? I then said this season would provide a better barometer of Udrih and so far I think that’s happened.

if i was the suns gm i will try and get hometown native jerryd bayless in a suns uniform. he will play back up for nash for about a year or so and after that the future is in his hand

I love the way you guys come up with suggestions for Sergio Rodriguez or J. Bayless, but the Suns have very little in the way of leverage or players to offer. Owner Robert Sarver’s literally given away 5 or 6 number one draft choices by my count since he became the owner in 2004. It appears as if he did that to save money and he somehow stayed under radar by doing such in Phoenix.

If the owner of the NY Knicks ever did something so stupid, it would be headline news every day in the New York newspapers.

Robert Sarver is an idiot. The amount of first round draft choices he’s given away for cash should be considered a crime.

I’d like to point out that Dragic is much more athletic than he seems, he has a 37 inch vertical leap and an above average first step.

If he stays in Phoenix, he really won’t need to play defense ;]

This may not be a complete history of what Sarver’s done to ruin the future of Phoenix by giving away multiple number one draft choices, but it’s pretty close.

I actually like Dragic i think that he is a prety good backup to nash he looks a little confused at times but he runs the team pretty good when he is out there with barbosa and the 2nd unit. he can shoot and he can handle the ball i dont see him as a starting pg though but a real good backup.
