Knicks forward Darko Milicic told FanHouse that he will strongly consider playing in Europe next season.

Like fellow 2003 draft class members LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, Milicic can become a free agent after the 2009-10 season.

“The NBA for me is not the way that I want to be,” said Milicic. “Looking forward, the stuff that I’m looking for is for me to play and for to me enjoy playing. I think right now the only spot for me is Europe.

“Because growing up and playing basketball, I needed the ball in my hands. I used to create for myself and I used to create for others. I used to play a lot. That’s the kind of stuff I’m looking for. And for me to get that in the NBA right now, I don’t think so. And I’ve got to be real.”

Milicic is making $7.54 million in the final year of his contract. He has career averages of 5.4 points and 4.0 rebounds.

“I’m not blaming other people,” Milicic said of his struggles. “I’m not crying about it. Basketball is just a game. And stuff happens. If I wasn’t the second pick, who knows what would have happened? If I was some other pick, you could look back and say what would have happened.

“It’s past. It’s behind me. I’m going to decide after this year what I’m going to do, stay here or go back to Europe and play. I will decide after this season is over … I’ll go home and clear my mind … I’ll talk to the people that I care about and people who care about me.”

While Milicic says he isn’t blaming other people, he still doesn’t understand why Detroit took him with the second pick in 2003 if they didn’t plan to play him.

“I never understand why people are still talking about me as the second pick,” Milicic said. “But I never got a chance to play. Why take me as the second pick if you’re not going to play me for three years? They never let me get a chance. I still don’t get it … I never asked to be the second pick. I just wanted to play basketball.”

Oh, and Not like Milicic has a choice…I dont see any team picking him

He has all the physical tools to be one of the top big men in the league
He just lacks the hustle, desire, and work ethic to succeed in the NBA
    Sad really…

i think we all expected him to be very good, but i guess it was too much pressure on him to perform like that. espcially if your drafted ahead over melo, wade, bosh. now we all understand what happen in detroit. in orlando he was decent. memphis they expected him to contibute on the boards and the post . but he couldnt even do that there. and now in ny. he cant crack dantoni rotation. which is said.because he can run the floor as a big man , shoot, a decent shot blocker who could have turn around his career in ny. but nope he cant do that. i feel like he gave up after he lost his starting spot to gasol in memphis. so now hes unhappy because he let himself down and the people who were pulling for him. i think he should would fit nice on a playoff team like the spurs, nuggets or cavs where he comes in and does the dirty work. but at this rate he looks like he will go back home and try to be the man there.

To some degree, Milic has a point. He was a young kid who only wanted to play basketball but ended up being caught up in the NBA worldwind of GMs and NBA execs looking for the next big thing. Also, it just so happened that he was drafted be the Detriot Pistons, which at the time was a good verteran team with leadership such as Billups and Hamilton.

However, I’m still not sure Darko would have been. He’s had plenty of time to regroup and has had a chance to play. It just didn’t pan out for him. He wasn’t good enough, not even before he went to New York.

Well, don’t cry for me Argentina!!! He’s making $7mil this year. If I was him, I wouldn’t play at all, lol. I’d tour the country with models, chill at the beach and eat a bunch of fruit. That way, I’d be the most interesting man in the world.

I”ve been banned in several nightclubs because my swagger can cause pregnancy. The Surgeon General issued this warning about me: “His looks ACTUALLY can kill”. I once guest starred on the T.V. sitcom Three’s Company and my co-stars were Beyonce and Alecia Keys. Who am I??? The most interesting man in the world…. Stay thirsty my friends!!!

Dhamp2…the greatest basketball mind in the world. Next to Hube Brown anyway.

    1. R.I.P. Earl Manigualt.
    2. Carmelo will lead the NBA in scoring.
    3. The Lakers will 3peat.
    4. Wesley Johnson is a top 15 draft pick and the best transfer in America
    5. Dwight Howard is overated.
    6. There’s no way Steve Nash should have 2 MVPs, while Kobe Bryant has one.
    7. Brandon Jennings will win ROY.
    8. Eric Devendorf will be drafted (sorry about that)

Jose Cuervo rofl?! i’m not sure why Milicic is mad he’s had plenty of chances to reinvent himself

he played PF, he played Center, he played in Memphis, Orlando, and now NY

when is he actually going to learn to do something with a basketball? like hit a jumper

i was expecting him to be what he is. didnt like him overseas and he didnt do that well over there either plus i was pissed that he got drafted ahead of carmelo which was one of the dumbest moves from dumars ever. he probably doesnt have no other option but go overseas

Let him go overseas..And tell him to take GYPSY JOE DUMARS WITH HIM…Pistons fans should be pissed!! Seeing future hall of famers Wade, Carmelo and Bosh play for other teams…Chris Kaman,Josh Howard ,TJ. Fo
rd and David West have had better careers than Darko…Even Boris Diaw, Kyle Korver and Luke Walton are better players..T o make matters worst.Gypsy Joe hands the point guard duties to unproven Stuckey..and trades away Billups the heart & soul of the team for troubled but talented guard Iverson……Gypsy Joe could’ve redeemed himself by using Iverson & Rasheed Wallace’s expiring contracts to sign 1 of the free agent crop of 2010..Instead of wasting it on Gordon & Charlie V….

I think most basketball people agree that Milicic is very gifted physically. He’s 7 feet tall, he weighs around 275 pounds, he can run the court, and he can jump. I mean there were good reasons why Joe Dumars took him number 2 in the draft.

However, he’s a guy who’s never been given an opportunity to play significant minutes every night. Many of those reasons weren’t under his control but over time, Milicic hmust accept his fair share of responsibility.

However, when Milicic did have opportunities to play, he showed flashes of brilliance but never maintained them. He was very inconsistent. I for one would love to finally see a coach say I have this physically gifted big man on my bench and I’m going to tell him he will play 24 to 30 minutes every night for the next 6 weeks and we’ll find out what he can do. Over the years I’ve seen many players transformed by the opportunity to play regularly when they don’t have to worry about being yanked out of the game if they make a mistake or two.

That brings me to D’Antoni. He’s coaching a team with a 6 foot 9 inch center whom I love, but he’s just too short for the NBA. Lee belongs at power forward. In addition, the Knicks are out rebounded just about every game they play. Why doesn’t he put Milicic at center, move David Lee to PF and give it an extended try to see how it works out. What does he have to lose?
