If you were to start a team around one of these two Grizz players who would it be and why?

    I like Rudy personally.

It would be hard to build a team around either one of these guys, but I’d go with Gay. He’s much better at getting to the foul line, which is paramount for a #1 option. He has terrific size for a small forward at 6’8, 220 lbs. Gay has the ability and the athleticism to dominate on both ends of the floor, but effort, or lack thereof, is his biggest weakness. His lack of passing ability is also a problem, as he rarely locates the open man. He would be a great #2 option on a good team, as he wouldn’t be heavily relied on to create offense.

Mayo is an underrated passer with great shooting ability and confidence. He’s also very well built for a guard at 210 lbs. His smoothness and maturity is rare for a player his age. He’s a very willing defender with good fundamentals. His athleticism is his biggest weakness. He has below average size at 6’4, and he doesn’t use his vertical to his advantage. His first step is nothing to write home about, as he rarely blows past his defender. On the rare occasion that he does blow past his defender, his 6’6 wingspan hinders his ability to finish at the hoop. He really struggles to score when his jumpers and floaters aren’t falling, as he can’t rely on getting to the free throw line. The last problem, however, should be fixed once he learns to use his body to draw more fouls. I also noticed that he didn’t do too well last year when he matched up against teams for the 2nd and 3rd time, as they were able to effectively game plan against him. While it might have been attributed to inexperience and fatigue, I think that it’s something to keep an eye on as he continues his career.

Personally, I’ve always been fascinated by Rudy’s game and his athleticism as well. I just wish he was on a better team so the whole nation could see what he’s really made of. It’s only O.J’s second year so it’s hard to judge whether he’d be a great 1st option. I really expect him to break out next year with a 25+ ppg season

I would start my team around Mayo. He brings more to the table and I can see a team winning more games with Mayo as the 1st option than Rudy Gay. Gay is a very gifted player, but Mayo is better all-around and he has a winning mentality.

Agreed. I would Start with Mayo. I feel his scoring ability and the fact he can be a combo guard can be a plus.

I like Gay but I don’t like the fact people see his potential and say ” he will be a great player! pay him that 11 mil!”

I feel Gay is a 7-9 mil guy.

If we are talking about a serious team, I would have to say Mayo. Gay isnt a first option kind of guy. He is more of a supporting scorer. He needs to play off of a great PG. Mayo can do the scoring needed to lead a team because he can create his own shot and play off the ball. Gay has to have his shots created for him. He is a great player but not the kind of guy to build a good team around. He is more like the guy that you use to take your team to the next level.

id have to go with mayo because i see more potential but its close. i think gay will get a good 9million a year because hes worth it though. hopefully he will stay wit the grizz . wouldnt mind seeing him wit the clipper. hopefully not the knicks though

depends. I dont see LAC adding Gay for 9 mil if you can keep Thornton for 5-6 mil

not saying Thornton is in Gay’s league- Sterling is a tad cheap and I see that maybe Sterling looks at it that way
