NBA Comparison: Rasual Butler

Matthew Maurer – 2/4/2007

Strengths: Moves well without the ball working off screens and picks Has legit NBA three point range on his jumper Has the potential to be a quality defender Excels shooting off the dribble from mid-range Smooth player who makes difficult plays look easy Solid athlete who has good leaping ability with long arms which allow him to be a adequate shot blocker Excellent free throw shooter Does a decent job of using fakes and hesitation shots to draw fouls Patient player who doesnt force the action, simply lets the game come to him Nichols is an explosive scorer capable of putting up big points Athletically he is sound but not what you would call explosive Although not dominating, Nichols does a solid job of rebounding the ball Coachable player with a solid work ethic and has improved greatly over the course of four years Has really become a much more confident player in his abilities For his size there are few who have his ability to shoot from the outside

Weaknesses: Needs to work on strengthening his upper body strength For now, Nichols struggles to convert after taking contact in the lane Struggles with consistency as his jumper can go through periods of hot/cold streaks Ball handling has improved but is still in need of improvement Settles for the jumpshot too much, seems to base his whole game around his outside jumper. His average first step could have something to do with him not be able to drive to the basket consistently Because of this he struggles to gain full separation from his defender Defensively Nichols can loose focus and play without much intensity Will need to work on his shooting mechanics, right now he takes too long to release his shot When catching a pass, Nichols will gather his feet and bring the ball from below his waist and then shoot. This delay allows the defense to recover so improving on this would be a bit benefit Despite being bigger than most of his opponents, Nichols has little to no post up game His passing ability is average due to his lack of court vision
