I find it odd that every time I read comments about a certain player fans claim them. Say for instance when Anthony Davis almost had a quad double and Kentucky fans go ” BBN ” or ” he went to Kentucky “. Stuff like that. People act like just because they went to a certain school doesn’t mean the school made them and vice versa. That’s like saying just because Jahlil Okafor goes to Duke then he’s going to be bust. People needs to understand if Anthony Davis went to DePaul he would still be great.

Yeah, if you are good it is the name on the back of the jersey that counts.

If you are great, the name on the back of the jersey elevates the name on the front of the jersey.

That being said, more "great HOF" NBA players came out of Big 6 conferences than didn’t (for those who went to US colleges).  Sure the perfect coach for the perfect guy can help but a great one over the top.

Look at MJ.  Had a great coach in Dean Smith at UNC.  Then he goes to the Olympics under Bobby Knight.  That had to have helped.  MJ would have been great anywhere but would he have been the GOAT?

That’s kind of different. I was referring to the now one and done players. Of course a coach will have more impact when the players stay 3 to 4 years because they can refine the players game. But you can’t say the same thing with Kyrie Irving, Anthony Davis, John Wall, and so on. They barely played at the school so the coaches won’t have the impact and if they were at the school more than 2 years.

You can bet that Anthony Davis wouldn’t be the same player if he went to DePaul. You can even argue he wouldn’t of been the number 1 pick. Yes he would still be a great player but Kentucky made him that much better. Do you think DePaul would of won a national championship? No. Therefor look at the ramifications. He probably wouldn’t be he number 1 pick and he absolutely wouldn’t of played in the Olympics which I believe was huge for him.

This might be the most idiotic thing someone have ever said. No school makes a player. And scouts even said he would’ve been the number 1 pick. He was projected as the number one pick coming out of high school. Coaches don’t make the player. You acting like Coach Cal made Anthony Davis. Anthony Davis went to Kentucky for one year.

Yeah, well he didn’t go to DePaul. I’m sure if he did, DePaul fans would be saying the same thing.  He won a national championship for Kentucky and will be a Wildcat for life.

You clearly didn’t understand what I was saying. I said why do fans belive just because a player went to their school mean that they made the player. Fans claim the player like they made them who they are.

I’m not sure I’ve heard anyone say that their school made that player. Usually when someone says that a great player went to their school, they’re just proud of the fact that such a great player went to that school.

Anthony Davis might have gone to DePaul and put up a bunch of empty stats.

AD played with good talent against good talent and now he is a top 5 player in the league.

He might have gotten that extra stuff (intangibles, work ethic, mental toughness) from Kentucky.

The same reason why people cheer for their home countries during the Olympics.  It’s part of a normal human reaction to favor people that share ideas, experiences and  values you do.
