mgreener_34ParticipantI usually don’t make game threads, but this is probably one of the biggest game of the year, and it’s definately living up to my expectations! Duke came out strong, but NC has really picked it up, and is now up by 1. NC in the first half had a horrible game plan I thought, giving Okafor WAY too much respect, and he killed them by breaking their D. Now they are putting more pressure on the other players to make plays. Duke is playing a little too sloppy as well, and that’s whats been NC catalyst.
I’m not going to lie, I don’t really follow either team that ofter, so I haven’t scouted many of the prospects on either team as much as you guys, but here’s my impressions of the stand out players:
Quinn cook- Shot 4/5 from 3, and has really looked good running the team.
Justice Winslow- This guy is certainly an NBA player. He kind of reminds me of Wes Mattews in that he’s just a solid all-around player with good size.
Okafor- Has not impressed me at all really. He did a good job passing out of the double team in the first half, but he tries to do too much with the ball, and its lead to some really bad turnover. I know rebounding is a team effort, but he need sto assert himself on the boards more.
JP Tokoto- What an athlete. This guy just crashes the boards.
Marcus Paige- This guy is a good college player, he goes hard on every play

BogDon_KryptParticipantAt one point in this game these two teams were tied in points over the last 88 meetings. How crazy is that?

trelos6ParticipantTyus Jones made one bonehead play, on an inbound pass giving it away, but otherwise, he’s been spectacular.
The PG position in the NBA is going to get STRONGER!

Chilbert arenasParticipantTyus Jones stock is booming right now after that game, 22 7 and 8 on his biggest stage yet
Not trying to hate but Justice Winslows shot isn’t broke but certainly not reliable while Wes is leading the NBA in 3pt% .
Okafor turned it on late when UNC tried to cover him one-on-one with Meeks, Okafor went to town on him. Meeks is no slouch either.
Tokoto had a great all around game, we all know he leaps out the gym but the guy is an underrated passer, needs to focus on the defensive end and work on that outside shot.

mgreener_34ParticipantDamn, that was a game!
Winslow’s form looked solid, and he did a good job getting to the rim today, which to be honest with you, is more imporant than his shot in the long run. My comparrison to Wes was more about how they play, not about their skill level. Remember, Wes wasn’t even draft, and only put up 13/5/2 on 45/34/80 in 4 years in college. Not exactly mind blowing numbers. But he put in the work to get where he’s at, and I think Winslow is capable of doing the same.

nick5354ParticipantThe first thing I think when I see Tyus Jones is Mike Conley. I don’t know if it is just me but I see A LOT of similarities.

DolanCareParticipant^^I logged on just to point this out. Tyus Jones is very Conleyesque. A small guard who plays bigger than his size, smooth handle and passing ability.

rickybobbyParticipantI dont see JP Tokoto going lotto but he should be drafted when he comes out. Maybe late first early second. I’ve said it before but he’s very similar to KJ McDaniels a do it all small forward.

sitlbitoParticipantTokoto,I’m sorry but I can’t stand guys that don’t even look at the basket when they’re at the FT line. Ok he’s athletic, terrific rebounder but if he learnt how to handle the ball and shoot he would already have been a lottery pick.
Agree that Winslow is NBA material,he’s got al the intangibles needed.
The problem with Okafor is that he started so strong,he isn’t showing anything we don’t know at this point. Crazy howNC doesn’t have anybody other thn Marcus Paige than can actually shoot.0 - Posted on: Thu, 02/19/2015 - 3:04am #967414

ncballerFew thoughts from a disgruntled UNC fan:
1. Roy is not good at instilling confidence in his freshman. Justin Jackson looked completely out of sorts last night, while Winslow looked like a grown man. Hard to believe that Jackson was the MCDAA game MVP. Berry similarly held his own against Jones consistently on the circuit and got his a$$ handed to him.
2. UNC lacks mental toughness/basketball IQ. Nate Britt is a 91% free throw shooter and misses the front end of two one and ones. Brice Johnson after hitting two free throws then misses the front end of a one and one. JP Tokoto has a wide open lane to win the game and he settles for a jumpshot. Brice Johnson cannot play without fouling. Marcus Paige has regressed. The MP of last season would have put the team on his back and found a way.
3. I like Okafor, but I think his transition to the NBA is going to be a lot more tumultuous than people realize. Kennedy Meeks and Joel James scored at will on him and Okafor’s post game is centered on bullying his way to the basket. I am not sure how he will get away with that against grown men.
4. I love Kennedy Meeks. He is no Okafor, but my gosh I am kind of shocked at how he more than held his own against him. An offseason of improving his explosiveness should work him into the first round.
5. Those that say Tokoto should be a loterry pick only watched him last night. He is a freak athlete who normally has his head in the clouds during the game. I would take him late second.
6. Tyus Jones when he is attacking might be the best PG in the country.
Great game regardless of the outcome. But man UNC choked this one away. Unfortunately, I don’t think this team has a killer instinct in them to beat them in March.

Memphis MadnessParticipantI can see Tyus Jones being the best NBA point guard in that 22-25 range named Tyus since Tyus Edney.
Now if this kid breaks his hand deep in thr tourney and Duke signs some O’Bannon twins I like Duke’s chances to win the title.
Jones did take the ball right to the goal like Mr. Edney.

Taylor Gang MikeParticipantBTW, Theo Pinson is a future star, a Jamal Crawford clone who got injured for them last month. So lets think about that..
