So you traded your superstar Love to the Cavs. What has Love ever done for your team? It’s fools gold. He never took his team or his teammates to that next level. When KG was doing by himself at least he was getting to the playoffs. And when you put some talent around him he almost took you out of the west. You didn’t just trade a young KG. At best you were a 45 win team this season.

But what you did just get is Two First Overall Picks and a toss in late first rounder for Love. You got Bennett who can do some of the same things Love can do. You got Wiggins who some think is the best player to come out of the draft snice Rose or Love’s new teammate Bron. But the biggest thing you got is a new start. A new start with some really good talent that have something to prove. You have 3 years to get it right, to build something special. You have a core of Rubio, Wiggins, Bennett, LaVine, Shabazz and Robinson III. With a system in place, with a coach to show the way, with front office to stay the crouse. Your dream can come ture. You could be the next OKC. You could be the next great team not just good. You could be thanking Love in a few years for doing this.

So why are you so upset? You traded Love for a new start. You traded Love for a chance to be special. Because as good as Love is, he was never going to take you there.

No matter the reality, fans of a team that hasn’t found success for a long time will be upset when their best chance at success – in the short term – is traded away.

As a wolves fan I’m not mad about how this summer is turning out at all. I am definitely in the minority around here, which I’ve found a bit curious as well. I recognize with such a young roster we won’t win many games right away, but I think management has done a commendable job shuffling pieces this summer recognizing they needed a return in value for Love and young talent to build around. If they can move Bennett for Thaddeus Young (one of my favorites, love his scrappy style, and he really can do it all) I won’t be able to wait until the season starts..

I am a wolves fan as well and I am very happy with this trade. I just hope they go into a full rebuild instead of rebuilding on the fly and ensuring our peak is a 7 seed in the west. Since I cant trust the wolves management at all, I am fearing that is going to happen. Getting young does very little for this team. He cant shoot(go look at his shooting , he shot 33% from 16 to 24 ft and 31% from three last year). He doesnt space the floor and cant play down low and doesnt rebound he averaged 6 rebounds a game on a terrible sixers team. He would probably leave in a year as well. I want them to keep Bennett. Then look to dump players like Pekovic, martin and budinger. And tank this year and go from their with a young core of rubio (if they decide to keep him) Lavine, wiggins, bennett, dieng, 2015 draft picks(thiers and the heats) and shabazz. I know they have been out of the playoffs for a while now but they need to do it right otherwise wiggins is just going to leave within 4 to 9 years like love and we will be rebuilding again.

I can say it hurts to trade Wiggins, I assume it hurts to trade Love for Wolve fans. Makes me think the trade will work out for both sides.

Teams rarely if ever make out well when being forced to trade Star players but the Wolves did what they had to do to insure they didn’t need another complete rebuild.

There is nothing saying that the Wolves would’ve only won 45 games if Love had stayed with the Wolves.  The team would’ve had the same chance to improve as every other NBA team team with a talented young improving roster.

If they are mad, it shouldn’t be at Kevin Love. He got them two number 1 overall picks in Wiggins and Bennett and a 2015 first rounder. If they should be mad, their anger should forever be towards KAHN! If anything, for missing out on Steph Curry (twice, shoutout to Johnny Flynn) and Boogie Cousins. Botching every draft pick outside of Kevin Love and maybe Ricky Rubio. Be mad that Love was signed for a 4 year contract with a player option in the 4th year and being undervalued for Ricky Rubio, who can’t shoot to save his life and is now demanding max dollars. Be mad at Kahn and Taylor for squandering assets for years while a majority of teams in the west got better. Be mad at signing Pekovic to a large deal without using the teams leverage in restricted free agency, especially when he wasn’t offered a contract by another team. Now don’t get me wrong, Love had a lot of moments where he sulked, talked about his teammates and generally looked like he was out for his numbers only after a while but its not like a winner was built around him for the 6 years he was there. Be mad at the incompetence of a front office that just screwed up.

It was a win win for both teams. If they would have held onto Love they would have missed the playoffs again and then watched Love walk for nothing.. Giving up one year of Love for the future of Wiggins and Bennett? How could anyone possibly be mad about that?

I’m not sure how Wolves fans could be mad. You were only going to have one last year of Love and would have let him go for nothing if you didn’t make a trade. Now you get a guy that a lot of people project as one of the best prospects. Not only that, but you got him for his rookie deal for 4 years and when he is a restricted free agent you will likely get him for 4-5 more years. Yout get what appears to be at least one more first. I am interested to see what Rubio does with some actual athletes on the floor now. My only complaint would be trading Bennett for Young. Doesn’t make sense to me to get a 1 year rental on a guy that has said he wants to play for a contender. Take Bennett, keep the Canadians together and see what he becomes.

I guess I haven’t seen many fans mad the writing was on the wall and getting Wiggins is huge. I don’t get flips plan to try to scrape and claw for an 8 seed which won’t happen. Both times the wolves had a superstar they built around them poorly and overpaid ok players. Love needed somebody that could play defense the 8 times a game he wouldn’t get back on defense complaining about calls he didn’t get on offense.

I agree with you. I understand why FLip wants to be in the playoffs but he needs to just ditch that plan for now and try to develop the young talent that he has. Thad will be gone after one year he’s been doing the rebuilding thing in Philly for the Majority of his career don’t think he’ll be to eager to try it again. Keep bennet for at least a year and see what you have. It’s not like Bennet was considered a bum coming out of college. he might have been deserving of the No.1 pick just was in a bad situation in Cleveland last year. Reason B why your coach shouldn’t also be your GM. No patience or vision(at least by Flip)

Thad, if we get him, probably isn’t staying beyond this season. If he does stay, it is only because we will horribly overpay him in order to get him to remain, which once again limits out future cap flexibility. Thad, on a fair contract, isn’t a bad guy to have on your team. Thad, on an overpay, becomes a liability.

I would rather we take our chances with Bennett and see if he can play. Last year suggested that he can’t, but maybe the weight loss and added experience makes enough of a difference. If Bennett flops we can release him after 2 seasons, assuming we pick up his first option this summer.

I think you have our playoff chances assessed accurately.

I am disappointed that Love didn’t want to remain, but that is due more to his dealings with Kahn, and the inability of the current roster to win, more than anything else. Love insisted that he wanted to leave, so I think Flip got the best outcome out of the situation that he could.

I am disappointed that now we start rebuild 3 since trading KG, and I am going to have to watch nonplayoff quality basketball for the next few years. The first was a rebuild around Big Al, the second around Love, and now around Wiggins. Kahn wasted a lot of high draft picks (Wes Johnson, Flynn) which meant that the Wolves not only weren’t able to surround Love with quality players, but that they had to get rid of assets in order to get rid of Flynn and Johnson.

If I was going to be mad at anyone, or anything, it would be Glen, who likes to sell his second round picks, who signed off on trading KG, signed off on hiring Kahn, and signed off on not offering Love the max when he could have.

But I am certainly not mad with the trade, given that it was about the best that we were going to be able to do.

The wolves always get value for their star players. Al Jefferson 4 KG, Love to replace Al, and now Wiggins 4 Love. Thaddeus Young would get killed by The brow, Aldridge, and other western conference Power forwards, so don’t drink the Kool Aid on that one.  Lavine, and Wiggins make T-Wolves most exciting team in the west!

I don’t think Wolves fans are upset at the trade itself. People would be outside the Target Center with torches and pitchforks if they accepted anything less. The real frustration lies with management and ownership, and that this whole situation was completely avoidable if there was any organizational competence whatsoever.

Ive ranted about awful drafting, coaching searches, roster construction, coaching decisions, etc. Way too much, and it’s pretty common knowledge,  so I’m not gonna touch that.

I will say that what ultimately did it was the way the team treated Love. It started when Rambis decided Ryan Hollins and Darko were more important to the team by keeping Love on the bench, even though he was outplaying them consistently.  It took  a 30-30 game, and at least 2 20-20 games before Rambis even STARTED Love. So that whole situation built resentment early on.

But what really did it, and what Wolves fans are most mad about, is the complete disaster that was Love’s rookie extension. I’ll start by saying that I love me some Rubio, and I think he’s extremely underrated as a player (shooting is a huge negative though). But he certainly isn’t worth max money, and by the time Love reached his extension, he had easily proven he was worth the designated player status. Kahn’s complete idiocy in wanting Rubio to have the DPO, AND in offering Love an opt out was arguably one of the dumbest things a GM has ever done in the history of the league. THAT is what Wolves fans are actually mad at. If Kahn didn’t have an IQ of 4 and just done what literally EVERY OTHER GM would have done and maxed Love, it’s (slightly more) possible that none of this may have happened in the first place.

Our anger is still with KAHNNNNNN and Papa Glen, not with the trade. I don’t think true Wolves fans would blame Love for wanting out, just like we didn’t blame KG either.

KG had way more help than Kevin Love ever had. Now KG was clearly the better player for what he brought in intesity and defensive versatility but comparing Love’s situation to KG’s in Minny isn’t completely fair.

In 03-04 KG had Sam Cassel who was an all-star that year and averaged a career high 19.8 PPG. They also had Latrell Sprewell who was a 4 time all-star and although his career was winding down he put up like 17 a game as well. Wally Sczerbiak also had some good years including an all star season in 2002. All 3 of those guys were better than anyone who has played with Love since he has been in the league. I think Pekovic might be their 2nd best player and he isn’t even a top 10 center in the NBA.

As for Minny fans they should actually be thrilled. To get the #1 overall pick for a player you knew was going to leave is great. If you look to when Melo was going to leave Denver they didn’t get near that level of upside in their package that included Gallo, Chandler, Felton and Mozgov. Wiggins gives them a piece to build around which is really all you can ask for. Hopefully they draft well the next few years and they could be the new small market upstart in the West ala OKC.

It was only until 03-04 that KG DID have help honestly. Before that, the guy was dominating but couldn’t make it to the playoffs. Who did he have anyway??? Joe Smith minus a ton of first round picks? Terrell was the only other solid player around KG and Szerbiack maybe.

What has Love done? Tell me buddy? How has he helped your team? Playoffs? Chips? Ok cool he’s a All Star and his stat line looks great every night. Dope.

For Love you got what people are calling a young Pippen, The next Kobe best player to come out snice Bron. Oh and another 1st Overall Pick in Bennett that could be a Reb monster like Love. A little undersized is Bennett, but his 7 foot 4 wingspan should help him out.

Also a big ALSO you now don’t have to hand Love 120 million bucks. So you have cap space to make moves. Like maybe trade some of that young talent for a Vet All Star thats locked into a contract to team up with Wiggins.

You really need to look at the BIG PIC.

I’m a wolf fan but I’m not mad one bit. In fact good luck CLEV. I’m so sick of watching Love’s game, and am happy to watch a better team game now. All other players we had got criticized for not playing defense. Except Love. He could go no wrong. Probably our worst defender. And watching him settle for 3 point shots all the time got real sickening. Boring in fact. He’s really good at rebounding. It’s going to be fun to see if his team game gets better.
So Nope, not mad at all.
      Welcome Wiggins to Minnesota.

You have no idea what pic i’m looking at. I never said I didn’t like the trade. I couldn’t be happier that we were able to get someone of Wiggins caliber. Why are you suddenly acting like you wouldn’t want Love in LA?

the Wolves are built to win now! They have a never ending list of decent players on bad contracts. It just might not be possible to do another full rebuild attempt w/o buying out contracts. The Wolves already have a full 15 man roster, and that doesn’t even include the deal about to happen w/ Cleveland or signing 2nd rounder Glenn Robinson III.

In reality, the Wolves will have to part with Bennett in order to rid themselves of such contracts. Yes, the Wolves could very likely be better off with Wiggins in the long run, but if it wasn’t for Love we wouldn’t have stockpiled the team full of Mbah a Moute, Budinger, Martin, Turiaf, and Brewer.

If I had control of Glen Taylor’s bank account I’d buyout Mbah a Moute, Shved, and Barea; and then hold onto Bennett.

That’s kind of why I’m not thrilled with losing Kevin Love.

I think people are clearly annoyed with all the Timberwolf chatter as of late. Haven’t seen a single Wolves fan upset about getting Wiggins – including Alter-Ego – yet everyone seems to agree that all Wolves fan are upset.
