valentineHi there. Who are your favorite alltime basketball idols ? Mine are David Robinson and Tim Hardaway. Robinson had so much raw energy and played a great all-around game. Hardaway’s crossover was God and shot the lights out(besides being a really slick and creative playmaker). Love the early 90’s guys like Lionel Simmons, Derrick Coleman, Detlef Schrempf, etc. I was still in my teens and starting to learn the sport and play fantasy. Take care.Thanks.

aamir543ParticipantShaq and Yao, the reason I started watching basketball. I even remember the exact score of the first game I watched, which was the first matchup between Shaq and Yao. Ever since I’ve been a diehard.

SwatLakeCityParticipantJohn Stockton. His pick roll mastery was what got me into basketball. Watching him in the finals against the Bulls twice was pure art. It just fascinated me how well he handled the ball and how well the Jazz passed as a team. His pick and roll truly was a thing of beauty

Raef LaFrentzParticipantKevin Garnett and Adam Morrison.
It’s all about the passion for the game!

db24kb24ParticipantKobe of course. but I also grew up loving Sprewell and Iverson. They were edgy, raw AF, and they didn’t care about anything but hoop.

scbe2223ParticipantTracy McGrady.
I loved the way he absolutely filled it up, and being young I didn’t really care about the whole playoff struggle stuff. I just liked how he played the game. I also really liked Steve Francis for some reason.

nousejustParticipantHaving one less big man on the floor opened up those driving lanes and ensured the Knicks had an extra long-range shooter when the defense collapsed. Again: This is the data asking — not answering, but asking — fundamental questions about how the Knicks’ offense should work. I can’t wait to see how New York answers them.

nousejustParticipantThe Lakers have been the most popular topic of discussion during these NBA dog days, with countless writers (including this one) wondering how all these new and exciting parts will fit together in the Princeton offense. The biggest sub-questions have focused, as always, on Kobe Bryant. Will he share the ball? Will he be content to work away from the ball? Will he sabotage the Lakers by hogging the ball, rendering Steve Nash as a glorified James Jones?

nousejustParticipantThat isn’t breaking news, I realize; any wing who plays the majority of his NBA career in the triangle offense should be very good at moving without the ball. But Bryant continued to flash that same genius last season under Mike Brown, who built several set pieces in his allegedly ho-hum offense around Bryant’s ability to work away from the ball. Bryant got some of his very best looks — both in the post and at the rim — off well-designed, quick-hitting cuts that gave him the chance to catch-and-shoot at close range, or to catch, take one dribble and create an easy look.

nousejustParticipantBy my count, there are seven Hall of Fame locks or players approaching that category who have a chance at wearing only one NBA uniform.

nousejustParticipantWith Duncan locked up and Tony Parker on the books for another two seasons after 2012-13, will it be time for San Antonio to move on from one of its three core players? Would Ginobili, as loyal to San Antonio as Duncan, actually want to move on at age 36?

nousejustParticipantIn other words: Why not just keep the guy?

nousejustParticipantAs things stand now, here’s a quick list of some future candidates to join this group as they pile up career accomplishments. All of these players have signed extensions to their rookie deals, so they’ve passed Step 1. There’s little point in considering the one-team possibility before a player takes that step.

nousejustParticipantRajon Rondo: Playing under one of the league’s best contracts (average of $12 million per year), which expires after the 2014-15 season, at which point Rondo will still be in his prime. What will the Celtics look like then?

nousejustParticipantSI.com: You mentioned you are training in a way you never really have before. You’re down in Miami, with Manning Sumner, right? What new stuff does he have you doing?

nousejustParticipantThat’s a mark that would have tied Toronto for 25th in points per possession, per NBA.com’s stats tool. The Knicks spent most of the season as one of the league’s 10 worst offensive teams and one of its 10 stingiest defensive teams. If the offense doesn’t improve, especially when all the high-priced stars play together, the Knicks have a limited ceiling.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 09/06/2012 - 2:19am #712195
nousejustParticipantTim Duncan: Duncan’s new three-year deal, with a player option on the back end, essentially puts a wrap on this discussion. Duncan, 36, has repeatedly said he will be a Spur for life.

nousejustParticipantPlucking out the useful data and making on-court adjustments based on it will be a giant challenge for the growing number of teams subscribing to a system that provides more information than any one person can handle.

nousejustParticipantAnd before you ask: Ginobili should be a first-ballot Hall of Famer despite his so-so raw stat totals (just over 10,000 regular-season points) and meager two All-Star appearances. He’s an international basketball legend who didn’t come to the NBA until he was 25 and played his entire career under a coach who prioritizes long-term health above short-term minutes totals. Ginobili should finish his career with one of the 35 or 40 highest PERs of all time, and his per-36 minute numbers project to just about 20 points, five assists and five rebounds per game — historically elite territory.

nousejustParticipantPierce will turn 35 in October, so he’ll be at a natural retirement age by the end of his current deal.

nousejustParticipantJohnson: Yeah. So around noon, I’m sitting there playing a video game, and I look at ESPN, and there it is: “Breaking news.” And I had just gotten off the phone with them!
0 - Posted on: Thu, 09/06/2012 - 5:46pm #712442
nousejustParticipantJohnson: I’ll tell you what: I’ve been to New York, but I’ve never really been out in New York like that. I had never been to Brooklyn until the press conference, and that was something like I’ve never experienced before. It was unbelievable — all the fans coming out to welcome us. It was something I’ve never been a part of. I had a great time.

nousejustParticipantYou can play small, too, with Gerald Wallace swinging to the four and you to the three. Have you talked to guys about that kind of Xs-and-Os stuff yet, or is it too early?

nousejustParticipantYou just have to tune it out. We had a great squad there. Unfortunately, we got hit by the injury bug last season, with Al [Horford] getting hurt early in the season. It happens. I can take the criticism, as long as I know I’m giving it everything I have.

nousejustParticipantLast season, New York became one of 10 teams to purchase a multi-camera system from STATS, LLC that tracks every movement in an NBA game — of the players, the ball, the referees, etc.

PROBALLWAParticipantWith Favors, Al Jefferson and Paul Millsap manning the post, the Jazz have a clear advantage in the paint over the other challengers on this list and will look to bully their way into the postseason once again in 2013.
