Who would Cavs take between MKG & Barnes?

If Charlotte goes big and the Wiz take Beal...which SF would the Cavs take? A week ago I would have thought MKG for sure, but now not so much. Which player would be the better fit? We know Barnes plays well with a good PG; something the Cavs obviously have. At the same time, it seems hard to imagine a player like MKG falling to 4, much less 5.

A lot of tough calls for teams to make early on in this draft.

And how freaking ecstatic would the Kings be to have MKG fall into their laps? Outside of Davis, he's easily the best fit for them. It's inconceivable! (or is it?)

Either is good, Barnes is a better fit for theh Cavs though. Irving could use a scoring option more right now.

In my opinion...

In my opinion, MKG is a better all-around player. He has everything on Harrison Barnes except for a perimeter jump shot. However, even though MKG is more athletically gifted and a much better defender, I can't help but think that Cleveland would let him slide and draft Harrison Barnes.

The Cavaliers are too high on Barnes. They wanted him to come out last year as a freshman, that way they could have drafted him with the #4 overall pick that they used on Tristan Thompson, instead.

Dan Gilbert is in love with this guy's scoring ability and with positive athletic scores at the combine, I think Cleveland would take Barnes.

Do I like the decision? No. But Cleveland wants to win now, and with Kyrie at point and Barnes on the winning, you have yourself a nice young scoring core.

For me, I'm just hoping MKG doesn't slip that far because he definitely deserves to be drafted in the top 3.

It's a tough decision

I love Barnes because he is a great shooter so now two of your building blocks can hit outside shots (Irving and Barnes). He is a smart player who can play off of Kyrie and let Kyrie be ball dominate without it hurting the team.

I love MKG because he brings defense and leadership. MKG was the one organizing morning workouts and motivating players as a freshman on a national championship team. With Kyrie having a quiet demenor (as far as stars go) MKG could fit that vocal leader role for years.

Barnes

I am a big fan of both players and I think both will be solid in the NBA. However, two things favor Barnes if both are available at 4.

First, the Cavs wanted Barnes at 4 last draft, when he pulled out to go back to college. Having had Barnes on their mind for so long gives him an edge. Second, I think Barnes is a better pro prospect. He has a much more NBA-ready offensive game than MKG, though it has been nip picked sufficiently that everyone is aware of the imperfections. And his combine times removed any doubt about Barnes being an NBA athlete.

Frankly, I would be surprised if both were available at #4. In my opinion, Barnes will go on team's "safe + potential" list along with Robinson and Davis. And due to his impressive combine scores, the potential side of that equation just went sky high--likely above MKG and Beal. I would not be surprised if Barnes went #2 overall now.

Not so sure Barnes is not a better fit

I am very worried about Mike Kidd-Gilchrist as a shooting/scoring option. I honestly like Mike more than Barnes and am rooting for him, but I think Barnes will be a much more versatile offensive player. Will Mike's rebounding, passing and defense make up for how much better I believe Barnes is at scoring? It could, Andre Iguodala is definitely quite valuable (though I even like his shot more than MKG).

I think that is what one would hope for from Mike, Gerald Wallace also being thrown around as well. But, they already got the hustle, grinder in Tristan Thompson at 4. Why not get a player that can stretch the floor? It is really hard to see Mike Kidd-Gilchrist being passed up by Cleveland, but I like the idea of Irving and Barnes more. Could be wrong, but I think it would be a better fit than Mike going back with his HS PG.

I doubt both will be

I doubt both will be available. I think they would rather have Barnes. He's a better prospect and has more scoring potential. He also proved to his critics that he's athletic as well.

Yes the Cavs wanted Barnes

Yes the Cavs wanted Barnes last year but thats because MKG wasn't avaliable as well as other players who are now in the draft. Some are now saying Barnes because of the Combine which makes no sense because they disreguard what they say during the season (on the basketball court where it really matters). i also like the fact that MKG can work on his jumper which is his only real weakness and his motor is high. He's also a year and a half younger

I have to go with MKG here.

I have to go with MKG here. Barnes would be a great fit -- good shooter, good athlete, strong D, can start and produce -- but MKG brings more of what this team wants and is striving for, which is to try to hammer the opponent every night. MKG brings incredible intensity and would make a potentially terrifying frontline with Thompson and Varejao. If they could get a SG who can hoist treys (I think John Jenkins would be perfect for them at #24 and he could play 25 minutes as a rookie), MKG would be just about perfect here.

^^^ i like MKG as well but as i look at that line up i don't like MKG in it. Barnes fits better in that line up because he brings something different. The lineup you put are all energy guys who can't shoot. You can play off MKG and help on the other two bigs. It makes more sense if they had a SG who is capable of 28ppg or more scorer like a Dwade or Eric Gordan,Harden type

That's a really tough

That's a really tough decision. Do you inject some fire into the Cavs on defense and intangibles and reunite Kyrie Irving with his high school teammate MKG. Or do you fill in the obvious need of some scoring and stability with Harrison Barnes. I doubt they'll both be on the table at #4 but I don't think the Cavs can go wrong with either one.

They want Barnes because he

They want Barnes because he and Irving are already close friends. So there will be already good chemistry on the court.

Austin Rivers

I think Cleveland should trade down and take Austin Rivers. I backcourt of Kyrie Irving and Austin Rivers would be nice
