Who should the Sixers trade first to start forming there team. They have an amazing glut in the front court and they have a chance to develop a monstrous front in the coming seasons.

Okafor, Embiid, Noel, Simmons, Saric, Covington and Grant all offer elite potential at some skill but they all also have a glaring weakness.

How many do you keep? Which ones do you keep? What do you think is the best blend of skills?

For arguments sake, lets say they take Ben Simmons. The odd man out, in my opinion, is Noel. Okafor and Noel do not compliment each other. Okafor needs to be with a forward who can stretch the D. What the Sixers need is a scoring presence in the form of a guard.

    Philly offers:

Nerlens Noel+ 26th pick to the Raptors

    for

    Terrence Ross+ 9th Pick

Philly has a TON  of cap space, plus Bryan Colangelo drafted Terrence Ross. He did score 52 points in a game a few years ago, but needs more consistent playing time. Raptors need a 4 and in the event Bismack leaves, the raps need another big who can block shots.

    Thoughts?

i think terrance ross is a restricted free agent so can this even happen?  i thought teams can’t start negotiating on sign and trades until july 1.

T Ross signed a huge extension.

That Raptors-76ers trade does look fair for all.

They have no real guards, and three centers.  It makes sense for the 76ers to trade a center.  For a guard or a pick, or both.

Noel seems like the best defender, I would keep him and move one of the others.  If Embiid is healthy, and looks like he can give them a lot of points and rebounds, maybe trade Okafor as he doesn’t look like or act like he wants to be a 76er.

If they take Simmons, I think you can trade Saric since they a bit redundant and they have some level at talent at PF already. What is his value though? Only trade him for a shooter. Embiid coming back makes either Noel or Okafor tradeable. You’d want to keep Okafor, as the bigger talent of the 2. But mobility-wise,  Embiid and Noel are  much more likely to coexist on the court when needed. I’d wait for the right player for Okafor. Pretend Saric and Simmons can play SF and that Embiid and Noel can play PF… pretend everyone can work together until they get the right offer.

Before you make any trades you first have to see what you have in Embiid.

I love him as a prospect and if he’s as good as advertised trading Okafor is probably the best option.

    C – Embiid (potential franchise C)
PF – Noel / Saric (solid rim protection and more potential upside)
SF – Simmons (jack of all trades point forward with franchise potential)
    SG – Covington / Grant
    PG – ?

    Okafor for a PG anyone?

Which Grant is on the 76er roster that would be considered a SG?

Jerami Grant is the only one I can think of and he’s definitely not a SG, more of a 3/4 hybrid player.

The 76ers only really have two options and that’s Noel or Okafor.  They aren’t getting as much value back for Embiid since he hasn’t played in two years.  No team is going to give up THAT much for him since he’s such a wildcard.

Okafor and Noel likely net you the same sort of package so it really doesn’t matter who they flip.  Just whoever they think will fit better next to Simmons/Ingram which is likely Okafor.

The odd man out is Jahlil Okafor. While we can expect his defense to improve some, he rated as the second worst defensive rotation big man in the league last year behind Enes Kanter. The initial hope that he would be DeMarcus Cousins on his best behavior still exists, but his jumpshot is worse, his defense is worse, and his off-court behavior is worse. His value is also very high to certain teams who like the idea of back to the basket big men, the Sixers should sell high.

    Assuming they take Simmons:

C: Noel, pray Embiid gets healthy

    PF; Simmons, Saric

    SF: Covington, Grant

    SG: Anybody but Stauskas, Stauskas

    PG: Free Agent, Smith

Ideal scenario would be Embiid gets healthy, trade Okafor, and trade Noel for Victor Oladipo.

I think Simmons is the keeper, he is the player with best potential to be a top 5 type of player, so I think it starts with him, then the best route is to surround him with the players that best fit his skill set. I like him as a 4 more than a 3. As a 4 he gives you the best combinantion of big and small and will be a matchup problem on the perimeter but can still guard in the post. He can run the offense from the 4 spot like Draymond and Lebron do.

Corey Brewer scored 51 points in a game once too, same with Mo Williams. So the 76ers should go get Mo, Brew and make that trade for T.Ross and have three guys that have to be on the top-10 list of worst players to score 50 in one game.

All this talk of trading a big is moot until you see Embiid do something. He’s missed two seasons and didn’t even complete one year in college. His injuries have been huge so even if he does come back, what percentage of the original Joel Embiid are they getting?

They’d look awfully stupid if they dealt Okafor and then Embiid never played.

I say we bring back Willie Burton who dropped 53 on the Miami Heat a month after they cut him in ’94. Also Dana Barros who lit up the eventual Champion Houston Rockets for 50 points just a couple months after Willie’s 53. Those were the days! Watching Shawn Bradley get dunked on by everyone and Clarence Weatherspoon getting his shot blocked by every PF in the league. Good times!

I hope Noel is the one who gets moved. Having said that, I don’t want to see the team move anyone before we see how everyone starts the year. There are too many unanswered questions right now, will Saric come over? Is he actually any good? Can Embiid get healthy? How does he look playing with Okafor and Noel? How naturally will Simmons transition to the NBA? Can he run the point (like Giannis/LeBron kind of do)? Once we have some answers to these questions it’ll be easier to make a move. However, for now I think a nice move would be a trade with Phoenix with a Knight/Noel base. Phoenix just came off an awful season but they found out they have a rising star in Devin Booker, and they need to make room for him. They don’t have great depth at PF and Noel offers them a player who can contribute now that should continue to get better. For Philly, they start actually forming a team. Knight is a combo guard who can play the 1 or 2, and offers outside shooting which the Sixers need bad. Knight isn’t a true PG which would make Simmons a great pairing because he could bring the ball up a lot and facilitate. They could start Knight, Covington, Simmons, Embiid, and Okafor… That’s a big step up from a 10 win team.

Option 1-Trading Nerlens Noel to Phoenix for #4 or Knight + 13th pick OR Minnesota for Lavine or the 5th pick Imo Thibbs would love adding Noel at C sliding KAT to PF

Option 2- Trading Jahlil Okafor for #3 and other assets OR to Phoenix for Booker and #13

I think the 76ers have been rumored to like a potential Simmons-Noel Pf-C duo

Okafor is said to have more value in the trade market too, as much as Id hate it, the GM looks like he’s open to trading Okafor for another Top Pick

Why doesnt Philly try and strike a deal with Sarics camp. His minutes are looking shaky and he has no financial incentive to come over.

If they let him pick teams of his choice, maybe he will agree to come over on a rookie deal to a willing trade partner. If he stays another year and skips the Rookie Salary, his trade value goes down.

Simmons looks like a 36-38mpg guy. A servicable high energy backup at PF is sufficient. Saric nor Simmons can play the 3.

Either that or run Simmons at the point. I dont know about that though…

If Saric says he wont come over for less than 15m in 2017, he turns from an asset into a normal roster player. Trade now while high to a team hes prepared to go to.
