To make this easier, I’m classifying players into groups. You’ll see why later.

Group 1: Nerlens Noel, Ben McLemore, Otto Porter, Victor Oladipo
Group 2: Alex Len, Cody Zeller, Trey Burke, Anthony Bennett, Shabazz Muhammad
Group 3: Steven Adams, CJ McCollum

Now tell me who each team takes given each scenario:
Group 1 is off the board. The Suns select ________.
Group 1 and the Suns choice (player you just named) is off the board. The Pelicans select _______.
Group 1 and the previous two players you named are off the board. The Kings select ________.
Group 1 and the previous three players you named are off the board. The Pistons select _______.

Groups 1 and 2 are off the board. The Trailblazers select ________.
Groups 1, 2 and player named above are off the board. The 76ers select ________.

Groups 1, 2, and 3 are off the board. The OKC Thunder select _________.

I’ve been trying to make a mock draft, but some of these picks are tough. It’s not quite as easy as past years. I’d love to hear what you all think.

Forgot to put in the “and any players selected above” for Portland’s pick, so that’s my fault. I guess McCollum is getting picked twice haha, but good answers though. If any of these scenarios were to play out some of your choices aren’t the general consensus, such as Shabazz at #5 or McCollum at #8. Lots of room for change during the pre-draft workout stage of draft season.

    1. Suns take Bennett. They arn’t in a position to worry about positions when you willingly take on Beasely.

    2. Burke, easy, hands down.

    3. Cody Zeller to be what they (and I) thought they were getting with Thomas Robinson which is hustle, rebounding and some face up skills to pair with DMC down low.

    4. I’m not high on Bazz, but if he does go high in the draft I would expect it to be here because it is a good fit. (I would absolutely consider CJ McCollum here as well.)

    5. Blazers take Kelly Olynyk

    6. 76ers take Steven Adams (to replace Bynum because somebody is going to pay him and that one is going to severely regret it!)

7.Thunder take Plumlee. It’s not a sexy pick with him being a 4 year player, but he is extremely athletic and was arguably the College POY through the first 15 games of Duke’s season.

    1. The Suns select Anthony Bennett. His athleticism, size, and his ability to score both inside and out will intrigue a lot of teams, and the Suns would definitely take a long look at him with group 1 off of the board.

    2. Without Group 1 or Anthony Bennett, the Pelicans select Trey Burke. The Pelicans have a nice point guard in Greivis Vasquez, but he isn’t the future at the position for the team. If you are still trying to build for the future, Trey Burke would be an excellent selection.

    3. I think that the Kings would take Cody Zeller. He just has that ‘it’ factor that many of the Kings players don’t have. He has that will to win. Add that with good size, athleticism, strength, and mobility, and DeMarcus Cousins will have a good post-player to co-exist with.

    4. It’s close between McCollum and Muhammed, but I think Detroit would take Shabazz Muhammed. They have gotten so lucky with guys like Greg Monroe, Brandon Knight, and Andre Drummond who all fell to them. Well, another year, another player with a lot of potential falling right in their lap. I think they would cherish a guy like Shabazz, and with this young core, Detroit could begin to make themselves relevant again.

    5. I think that Portland would take Olynyk. He just has that efficient offensive game that Portland would surely benefit from.

    6. I think that the 76ers would bite after Kentavious Caldwell-Pope with this pick. They need another offensive weapon to take some of the pressure off of Jrue Holiday, and KCP could provide that presence.

    7. The Thunder take Steven Adams. They are miserable with Kendrick Perkins, and they need to replace him. Adams already has an NBA body, and has a huge amount of potential to become a very solid center in the league as long as he works at it. I think a Westbrook – Lamb – Durant – Ibaka – Adams team could be very fierce down the road.

I think Burke should be in Group 1. If Orlando grab him or another team trades up to take him he will prob go in the top 5. If this turn out to be correct Phoenix will prob grab the one player in Group 1 that slips (not Burke as they Goran @ PG)
