It’s no secret that John Wall doesn’t really work well in Washington and that the team seems to play better, not too mention actually enjoy themselves more when he is not on the court.

Washington could use Wall to go out and upgrade that C spot and still be a playoff team built around Beal and to a lesser extent Porter Jr, they still got a lot of young talent that can grow.

Where do you think he ends up?

If Knicks were in range to draft a Bamba or Carter then I could see them engaging in talks with Washington and if LeBron gave Cleveland a chance to make their team better before deciding they may offer up the Brooklyn pick and a young guy like Jordan Clarkson.

Id like to see him in Phoenix with Booker and Jackson. They can trade everything else if necessary to get him. Those three would be a very good foundation.

do you think Phoenix would trade the possible #1 overall pick for wall?

I would. Why gamble the pick will turn out  better than Wall? You know what you are getting with Wall and they need a PG

They’d have to consider whether he matches their timeline. I think you only trade for Wall if you think he makes you a contender in the immediate or near future. It would definitely be interesting to see if they pulled the trigger on it. I think Phoenix is a longs ways from contending at the moment.

Is that really a huge gamble though? Of the seven #1 picks since Wall, four (Kyrie, AD, KAT and Simmons) are already much better than Wall. Yes, you know what you are getting with him — a very good but not great point guard. You can reasonably expect greatness with the top pick.

I would not say Kyrie, KAT, and Simmons are much better than Wall… I think Wall’s recent injury and time out are clouding your judgement on how good Wall really is… And I would say AD has barely been consistently better than Wall. Simmons has had a great rookie season and I’d assume he’ll be a great player, but you’re jumping the gun. Wall is a career near 20/10 player and has been in the top eschelon of PGs the last 4-5 years. Kyrie is a career 22/5 player which I wouldn’t qualify as much better than Wall… And KAT hasn’t been consistent enough to say he’s better than Wall and has been disappointing on the defensive end…

And the truth remains to be…

Bradley Beal takes away from the game if the ball is in his hands. I’m not saying that combo doesn’t work, but the more Beal puts the ball on the ground it disrupts the flow. He’s better at being setup for his shots, rather than creating for himself or others. His biggest weakness is ball-handling although he’s improved from last season. He wants to be Oladipo; that’s the role he’s aiming for.

Are you saying that Wall needs the ball in his hands more?  Year after year since he’s been in the league not many dominate the ball more than him.  Last time I checked he was top 2 in the league in time per possession, even higher than Westbrook. That’d be fine if he was a versatile offensive dynamo, but he’s not and hasn’t been since he’s been in the league.  Now Beal isn’t a great playmaker but he’s solid and has improved.  He’s also a bigger threat to score in the halfcourt bc he’s more of a threat from all over the floor.  A Wall-centric offense has proven to not work so IMO, in order for them to take that next step as a team, Wall/Beal have to learn how to share duties.  The problem with that is that only 1 of them can be effective off-the-ball.  It’s way overdue, but Wall has to become a better spot up shooter.  Maybe that’ll never happen, in which case they’ll be stuck with a supermax player who doesn’t have a supermax impact on the game.  Which brings me back to the original topic, he’s not going anywhere.  His contract is untradeable IMO.  He’s paid like a top 10 player, but his impact on the team isn’t near top 10.  Maybe he’ll have an epiphany this summer and he’ll make the changes as a player that needs to take his team to that next level, but the signs of of improvement and self-awareness aren’t there from what I’ve seen.

It’s not about Wall having the ball more because he still does what he do best, and that’s get everyone involved. The assist numbers doesn’t lie because he manages to still dish out 14-15 in a game even when nobody else takes the assignment of being the closer.

“Now Beal isn’t a great playmaker but he’s solid and has improved.”

That’s the problem. He wants to take on that role even more, ever since he ran the 1 in spurts last season in the playoffs.

“The problem with that is that only 1 of them can be effective off-the-ball.”

Rondo proved to not having those issues with Holiday.

Yeah Wall isnt the problem. He’s actually been the best player and trying to keep everyone in line. It seems youve got two main groups clashing here group Wall and group Beal/Gortat. The Beal/Gortat group is playing bad basketball. John keeps doing his best to tell them what they are doing wrong and they turn it into an arguement. I would defenitely keep Wall even if it means trading half my roster like Cleveland did this year. Teams will want Beal, Morris, Gortat. Scott and Mahimi seem fine with Wall and have been the 2nd and 3rd best players for Washington.

The problem with the Wizards is that they built a team around John Wall, yet no one is playing their role. I do like Scott Brooks but you can’t argue that a lot of this has to do with coaching. The team is literally built with spot up wings(Bradley Beal, Otto Porter, Kelly Oubre, Jodie Meeks) and pick and pop bigs(Markieff Morris, Mike Scott, Jason Smith).

The issue is all of a sudden these guys want to lay Iso ball. Beal wants to play the ball dominant Oladipo role like mentioned above instead of the Klay role. Otto Porter wants to be a point forward instead of Trevor Ariza, and the list goes on. Kelly Oubre was great to start the year as a spot up shooter now all of a sudden wants to drive to the hoop when he doesn’t have a handle. Don’t get me started on the bigs. Markieff Morris and Mike Scott are ball stoppers. Nothing is worse than seeing them throw it to them in the post and watch them take wild one on one shots.

Ultimately this team is built for John Wall to be the ball dominant guard with complementary pieces around him. Unforutnately his complementary pieces all want to be ball dominant. Their offense is ugly to watch. The only time they are affective is when John Wall runs the clock down and breaks down a defense in the last seconds of the shot clock to find the open man. That doesn’t even begin to describe their attorcious defense. And as far as Gortat is concerned he’s just not a fit in DC anymore. At times he can play that Steven Adams role in setting hard screens, rebounding, blocking shots, etc, however he too feels that he should be getting 10 touches a game in the post but quite honestly his work in the post has been constantly regressing.

I would get rid of Beal and Otto before Wall. Those two lack that toughness and grit Wall brings everynight. Wall was the only one to show-up last night, Beal is turning into a Joe Johnson type player, need the ball in his hand to be effective.

I would’nt risk this at all. I hate saying Washington is a potential team because a lot of us think that and they never seem to live up to it, that said they have a good, still young core in Wall, Beal, Porter, and Oubre. I think they might have a little too much money invested in Porter which may put them in a bind down the line but if anything they should try to change up their front court a little because you’re not doing much better in the backcourt and small forward position as many other teams. Their front court is getting killed right now by Ibaka and Valanciunas (of all people) this series. I’d like to see them maybe try to insert a smaller line up of Porter at the four and Oubre at the three next season and maybe swap out a future 1st & Gortat for Vucevic since Gortat has been saying he wants to retire with the Magic. John Wall isn’t the problem he just probably isn’t the best player on a Championship team which honestly most players aren’t anywway

He could be part of a super team with LeBron.

Cousins is a free agent, too. Not sure when he will get healthy, but I think some guys team up.

From all the Washington playoff games I’ve seen the past few years, Brad Beal seems like one of the least clutch players in the league

I would like to see Cousins go to Washington to play with Wall. If I was New Orleans and I knew Cousins was leaving I would take Porter for Cousins as he seems like a piece the Pelicans could relaly use at the SF position.

To be honest I don’t know what you can do with him… The issue with the Wizards is this: there 2 of their big 3 are injury prone but the irony is this Wall used to be the more durable and now Beal is turning into the more durable of the two.

With that being said the Wizards have two options: Decide if brooks is their coach or if they break up their core/team and start again with Brooks being in charge of the rebuild/say in the roster.

Me personally I would hit reset as that is one expensive roster that is very mediocre…

Cash in on John wall while he still has some value as that contract will look very bad soon(the max when isn’t a max player anymore) well at least on this roster that is. So if the suns offered the following: Their top pick and an average contract or two(Brandon knight for example) for Wall and a future protected pick.

Both sides would then win they get a PG that could potentially play with Booker and help give them a playoff tested P.G and speed up the time line to keep Booker happy. Who knows Wall might be able to recruit another star player or two to the Suns..Then Wizard get to either move Beal for futher assets or move him into the top dog, sort of like what happened with Oladipo and Westbrook. By this I mean in OKC Dipo looked average-good vs Indiana Dipo looking good-Allstar level and see what happens with a better fitting team.

Having missed half of this season John’s trade value would not be as high as it was and although he is a fine player, he isn’t quite at that elite top table. He made all NBA 3rd Team last year and is a regular all star but with that huge designated player contract to kick in next summer he’d be taking up a huge chunk of any team’s cap for 4 years until 2023.

For that sort of investment you’d really want a legit franchise level player. If a team did acquire him then if it was a team whiich is in rebuild now you’d have John’s big salary kicking in when the younger players were coming off rookie deals.

Washington would also want to get full value for their top player so the sort of deal Clippers got for Griffin wouldn’t be acceptable. Teams would be reluctant to give up a very high pick and Washington would want fair value back.

In this year’s you could argue that Atlanta, Memphis and Sac-Town have their PGs settled. Chicago and Dallas potentially do, so deals could be Orlando, Phoenix, Knicks.

Phoenix have decent assetsc and Booker and Wall would be a potentially top duo so is an option. As a Phoenix fan I’d not want to give up a top 3 pick but anything lower plus assets I’d think was a fair deal. Orlando will likely want to rebuild via draft with John Hammond so although he’d be a good fit there I’d rule out them going after Wall.

The Knicks is a big market team and Wall I’m sure would be attracted to them so they could be the dark horses to make a move for him and their wealth could absorb his salary easily going forward.

if they could get well and sign Cousins as a FA, there an instant contender.  Only problem is , getting cousins might stunt the growth of Jackson and Booker .

    pg. Wall

    sg. Booker

    sf. Warren

    pf. Jackson

    c. Cousins

If Beal, Porter, and Oubre can just play their role the Wizards absolutely are east contenders. Their biggest issue has been the fact that they have had the weakest bench in the league for years now. Because they seem to be allergic to keeping draft picks they have been forced to rely on guys like Brandon Jennings, Drew Gooden, Al Harrington, Ramon Sessions etc during clutch playoff situations. Compare the Wizards supporting cast to the Raptors and it’s a joke. In reality the two games the Wizards have been the Raptors has been purely because of how Wall/Beal outplayed and were more effecient than Derozan and Lowry. The Wizards absolutely lack tough role players who aren’t concerned with getting "theirs." They really need to keep their pick and pray to land someone like Wendell Carter or Miles Bridges. Someone who will just fit their role and play their ass off. The only other prospect who would be a perfect fit would be if they could land Collin Sexton as they have struggled forever to find a backup to Wall who is capable of keeping up the pace when he takes a seat.

Given the Wizards salary situation it makes much more sense to try to build a roster around Beal, Wall, and Porter rather than blow it up. If those 3 could just continue to get incramentally better yearly but more importantly play as better teammates, it won’t require that much more than you realize. The key is to build solid depth to not have to roll out some of the low level players they have had to rely on. I’d say your one trade asset would be Kelly Oubre. He would probably yield a solid role player given his upside and talent, plus unless they can move one of their big 3 you won’t have money to resign Kelly next year.
