Lakers look equally bad as the Sixers. So with Kobe retiring my question is aside from losing the pick what happens to the Lakers if they drop to fourth in lottery? What direction do they go, do they have pieces to build around yet or just pieces to build with?

If you lose out on the pick then I think they go after Luke Walton as the next head coach.

That should be the first option anyway.

Then you let him try to figure out what to do.

Get some free agents but don’t overpay guys who are overrated.

I think if they get Luke Walton as the coach then maybe Kevin Durant signs there as their signature piece.

If the Lakers lose their pick you’ll see Sam Hinkie’s smile in LA all the way from Philly.

Seriously the Lakers will have to look to rebuild around Randle and Russell. They will have maybe $50 to $60 million in cap space next summer and the Lakers are one of the true NBA powerhouses so they can offer the keys of the franchise to some top FA’s. The chances are they can land one guy and if they get him they would have a good chance to add another or at least some good supporting players.

If Philadelphia get ben simmons and Jamal murray, then their stategy will have paid off. Knowing their luck though, they won’t get the Lakers pick and they will get stuck with scal labassiere since he seems like the clear number 2 or 3 guy.

Lakers big plus for next year is they do have some cap space (after taking care of Clarkson)

Now that kobe will finally be gone.  "Nobody wants to play with kobe" is not a problem.

(Unless they make him a assistant coach)

B/c the Nets’ pick goes to the Celtics I can’t see them finishing any worst than 3rd last…. So that leaves L.A. & Phila as the two worst teams…. & B/c the Sixers have a young team & have been in a bunch of their games, I actually believe that once again Phila will Not have the worst record….

So if L.A. has the Worst record, I just can’t see them falling out of the bottom 3…. I’m not sure if it is even possible…. Phila will get that pick next year or in 2018 which will probably be better for them anyway b/c they already have 3 other first round picks & Embiid & Saric should be joing the team,…. 5 new players is more than enough….

They will have to rebuild slowly because no top FA will want to play with some unproven young guys. Russell and Randle are not even playing that well this year. Durant want come unless they can sign 1 or 2 other very solid guys.

I think they end up sigining some middle tier guys and try to lure better guys.

How many grand slam options are there out there?

In free agency over the next few years it would be Durant, Anthony Davis, and Westbrook.

In the draft, Ben Simmons.  And maybe a couple of more guys this year.

Coaching wise?  Luke Walton I would think.  John Calipari if he wants to take another shot at The League.

Coach Cal might be able to bring in Anthony Davis.  He has already coached Julius Randle.  I would think that a guy like Russ or Durant would want to play for a coach like Calipari over some generic veteran coach.  He has done well with guards in college, so I think he would help the Clarkson and Russell tandem.

Other than about 5-10 options, I don’t see any SURE FIRE ways to get the Lakers back on top.

I wouldn’t even be surprised if Randle, Clarkson, or D’Angelo Russell NEVER made the All-Star Game.

Not a pessimist.  Just a realist.

I would ALSO give the same outlook for EVERY OTHER NBA team out there.  Either get a superstar free agent, a superstar draft pick, or a superstar coach.  Other than that, you gotta roll the dice!

Trade the pick to the Bucks for a 2029 1st round pick.  I hear there is a "CANT MISS’ 5 year old prospect that Hinkie is looking at in the 2029 draft. Be patient, he has a plan.
