HaleParticipantWhat if in the 2010 FA the New York Knicks got…nothing. I mean I don’t know how unlikely that is but it is just a scenario I though of. They don’t have a 2010 1st round pick and if they didn’t add a superstar wouldn’t they be a lock for a top 3 pick in 2011? Every other team would improve from the draft most likely or grooming a young player but the Knicks could really only groom Danilo…Just something that came to my mind. Thoughts?

Knicksboy34ParticipantI thought of this yesterday….I wanna be the 1st big Knick fan to say it (this is the truth)
If the Knicks dont add anyone in 2010, we will talk about adding someone in 2011.

gatorheelsParticipantThat isn’t going to happen. The Knicks will have more money than almost every team in the league. You act like all teams are going to have a lot of cash to spend. I mean there are a ton of good free agents in 2010. I promise you the Knicks are going to get something.

HaleParticipantYour missing the point. It is a what if scenario.

JNixonParticipantYea if the Knicks dont get anybody in 2010…they should kill themselves. That would be just ridiculously horrible.

gatorheelsParticipantyupyup- Well if that happened you might as well say the Knicks will be lottery bound for a long time.

D_LegendParticipantHistory shows the Knicks do manage to screw things up

MagikKnickParticipantWe’d suck in 2010-2011
We get a top 3 pick, in 2011
We draft a future superstar
Pick up a 2011 free agent (whos available?)0 - Posted on: Thu, 07/16/2009 - 6:10am #182459
Knicksboy34ParticipantDurant is a FA in 2011

MagikKnickParticipantDurants restricted, no way OKC lets him go
They would match a $1billion offer if they had to0 - Posted on: Thu, 07/16/2009 - 6:16am #182462
Knicksboy34ParticipantUmm…People dont understand….The Cap doesnt matter with the Knicks
the current cap is 57.7 million. it will go down to about 55.8 million in 2010-2011
The Knicks have Duhon (6 mill) Darko (7 mill), Harrington (9 mill) and Hughes (12 mill) off the books.
half of 55 is about 22.5….Those 4 players are 34 million (thats over half)
We can still add 2 superstars.
When The Cap goes down, the Base Salaries go down. Former GM Billy King said that on ESPN.

maravich44ParticipantKnicksboy, I can’t believe you are 16. You really know what you’re talking about!
Knicks will get someone. Rest assured. What if they don’t?
They will get top picks in 2011 and probably 2012 and have money to sign best free agents. The class won’t be as good, but decent players will be out there and they will get a couple. Combined with a couple of young players they will get in upcoming drafts if they fail to sign key free agents next offseason, they will be fine. Isiah is gone, so he won’t be able to make any more trades! So you got that going for you…….which is nice.

dwat4444ParticipantYes Knicksboy but who does that leave on the team? What pieces would be inviting to any free agent for that team? There’s nothing left there. Most of the FA’s would have better teams back where they were.

Knicksboy34ParticipantDepends on who gets PT this year. Chandler and Gallo are gonna be good this year. If they sign and trade Lee to get someone and a pick (1st or 2nd) then they could add another player
I agree we may not get Lebron but we can add a couple of good players like a Wade or a Bosh or a Ray Allen or a Joe Johnson.

maravich44ParticipantThe largest market in the NBA offers quite an opportunity for endorsements and other fringe benefits not available in any other market. Being “THE MAN” in New York wouldn’t be rough to live with.

Knicksboy34ParticipantThank you Maravich….Someone else besides me saying that….
0 - Posted on: Thu, 07/16/2009 - 6:52am #182492
NYKnicksuperFanParticipantwe will not get LeBron or Bosh, instead I think it will be Dwayne Wade playing at the Garden, hes already won a ring, unlike LeBron he has no hometown connection to his city and I think he’s always been more ambitious then Lebron plus he’ll be about 5 0r 6 mill cheaper allowing for someone like Camby to be signed plus plays the Knicks worst position while SF is their strongest
0 - Posted on: Thu, 07/16/2009 - 7:08am #182507
maravich44ParticipantI disagree. Wade will stay in Miami if team shows him they are committed to get players around him. They have Beasley and Chalmers, so if they get one more good player, he stays. He’s more into liking his surroundings than wanting notoriety that situation would provide. If he leaves Heat, my guess is he comes to Chicago where he grew up, especially if they land his friend Boozer in a trade. Boozer has already alluded to the fact he’s try to recruit Wade if he’s a Bull. New York is more likely to get Lebron than Wade, but likely will get someone else.
Can you imagine Wade/Rose backcourt?!?!?!??!?!?!!
0 - Posted on: Thu, 07/16/2009 - 7:24am #182511
Michael.S.ParticipantA Rose and Wade backcourt would be an absolute nightmare to guard, but anyways back to the question even if the Knicks dont get any suprstar theyre likely to get atleast a lower tier player thats young and can help them in theyre rebuilding process and then they can add a potential star in 2010 draft if theyre lottery bound to help rebuild with Danilo and Wilson

laarethekingsParticipantSame thing happen to the Magic that one summer… Had Tim D on a plane coming there he sign back SA and they then go go after Grant Hill and looked how that came out… just because you have money to spend doesn’t mean they come… Plus the team there with… for ex King James… the cavs can give the most money next year by i think 15%… that 15 to 20 milll more than any other team.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 07/16/2009 - 7:47am #182523
maravich44ParticipantNo guarantees that money will get players. Bulls pinned hopes of getting Hill and McGrady and wound up with Ron Mercer and Brent Barry. Yes, James could be paid more by Cavs, but he can make more off court in New York than on court. Can you imagine how many products he’d be representing if he played in New York? I’ll bet he’d make an easy 25-100 million more in endorsements playing for Knicks.
Also, don’t you think the NBA wants James to play for Knicks? Somehow, that could enter the equation.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 07/16/2009 - 8:31am #182573
BasketballGuru24ParticipantThis actually could happen….because no player wants to be on a losing team, so if they can’t prove that they can have a decent team this year and these free-agents could be missing links….then they would have a good 2010 but if not it will be a rocky road….also since we having a economical crisis teams don’t have enough money to pursue big name players….thats why some players might just stay were they are
