Do you think there is any top tier free agent that would sign with 76ers. Not sure I see a path for them to ever be good outside of drafting the next LeBron.

If you draft the next LeBron free agents will come, so that’s kind of a moot point. I mean Lebron didn’t come back home until the cavs basically drafted the “next LeBron ” in Andrew wiggins.

And traded him away. The best FAs sign where the best teammates / situation is, meaning where do they have the most chance to win a ring. The second-tier FAs (e.g. DeRozan) sign where they get the max, and maybe have a chance of being the man… simple as that.

im going to push you a little because it’s not just as simple as that. Because players are smarter than you think, therefore, players look at pieces that are in play. For example, whether they traded him or not lebron does not come without players around him, meaning unless they got the next lebron he could play with or the next lebron and trade him for an established talent, Kevin love, he would not have come. Which goes back to my original point that if you draft the next lebron your franchise has an immediately different outlook especially if you have a ton of cap space and trade chips as well as an enflux of young talents to build a contender around a big name free agent!

Disclaimer( this will not happen but listen)

The sixers have enough money to sign two max players, 50 million in cap space to be exact. They get the number 1 pick and the forth pick from the Lakers in addition to 24 via heat and 27 via okc. We have a healthy embid okafor Noel and Saric comes over. Now you have kd whose weighing his options and he sees a team with the ability to pay him and another superstar. He says I want to win now but be on a team that can win for years and have a larger Window to win. Hmmmm….the sixers can sign me and Harrison Barnes and trade the 1st and the two late round picks for a now disgruntled John wall( not actual, hypothetical) whose not happy with the new coach. In addition to keeping the forth pick and landing a Jamal Murray or Buddy hield( shooter to stretch the floor). Now wait we still have four dynamic big men. One proven to be a scoring machine in just his rookie year with the potential to avg 20/10 another who proved to be a defensive specialist with the potential to avg 10, 10 2 and 2. Another who has never played, Embid, but has the potential to be the best big man in the league oh and is pretty good defensively and another big who can run the floor pass the ball and score with an improving jumpshot, saric check recent per 36 minutes. Now I’m KD so I have a lot of power get o pick my preference of the type of big man I want to play with and get to know embed and settle with embed and okafor. In turn, Noel is traded for a 3 and D guy, a necessary component to a winning team. Now I KD could be a max player with a core of John Wall, Harrison Barnes, KD, Okafor,Embid with Saric off the bench to bolster the front court. With heild or murray off the bench n addition to j grant who adds hustle and grit that winning teams need. Wait not to mention we could win the chip and still get a top five pick in the next draft with the rights to swap picks with the kings. Your telling me that it’s that simple??? I understand a lot of people don’t like the sixers but to say that its a done deal is foolish. Like the Cavs transformed over night, literally they were bound for the lottery every year PERIOD.

Although I like your hypothetical idea, and even believe it could happen, there remain important issues to consier. First of all, drafing good players is a lot more easier said than done. Second, even if you draft talented players development goes in spurts, meaning that having young, unproven talent does immediately result in succes. Look at how the Thunder, T’Wolves and Wizards started after they drafted their once-in-a-lifetime talents. This means that even when teams have a lot of talent that has room to grow star-players still think twice about going there beceause it might take 2 to 3 years before they are able to compete on the highest level. Star players are not sure they will be star players 2 to 3 years from now, let alone that they are willing to wait for these young guys to develop. To bring it back to your example of the 76ers. They have a lot of young talent, and if they are able to flip some of that talent for proven, above-average players (or even star players) they could be in a prime position to haul in some FAs and turn around their team in a heartbeat. In a time were few teams are willing to trade away star players for young talent/draft picks I have a hard time to believe that will happen this offseason though.

Ps: the Cavs already had a decent team (e.g. Irving, Thompson) with the possibility to transform the No.1 pick into another star player (which they actually did). That means there were suddenly attractive for LeBron, also considering the core he had in Miami was creeping up in age.

First, I APOLOGIZE the cavs had Thompson and irving the same Thompson and irving before LeBron and they sucked period! Thompson only makes your team good if he is a fifth scoring option and is able to focus on his strengths defense and rebounds. Moreover, again you made my point that it wasn’t until they got the first pick that it became attractive to LeBron because Thompson and Irving sure weren’t PERIOD. Which goes back to the sixers who have way more young talent and picks than the cavs did. SO thank you but no thank you pal.

A very top level FA wants to be on a serious contender so that rules out a few guys, other FAs also want to be on a serious team especially if they are well into their careers. The 76ers could look to try and overpay someone and tempt them there or maybe someone who has already won a title and wants a fresh challenge.

Personally I feel their best chance would be to identify a couple of players they realistically think they have a chance of getting via FA and do a concerted pitch to them once FA market opened. I know the Spurs are way more attractive than the 76ers but how the Spurs went all out for Aldridge last year not like the Lakers who maybe tried to pitch to everyone.

A lot will depend on who Philly drafts but they will have attractive vacancies at a couple of positions.

Until the process actually begins to take shape and show results on the court it’s going to be next to impossible to convince any of the bigger name fa’s to sign with philly. It’s also pretty unlikely they will be able to land any veterans who are looking to play for contenders. However, they do have an up and coming roster and tons of cap space, plus the opportunity for playing time. I think their best bet would be to target some younger players who may be slightly overlooked on the market and are looking for a bigger payday. Jordan Clarkson and Evan fournier are 2 names that come to mind off the top of my head. Maybe Terrance Jones?

B/C of the Larry Bird Rule allowing teams to give More $$$$ & Exceed the Salary cap to do so………. Very, VERY few so Called Max Free Agents………. In their Prime 24 – 29 y/o……. Whose Teams WANT to KEEP them…….  EVER leave the Franchise that Owns their Rights…..

30 y/o Lamar Aldridge is really the ONLY Max FA to switch teams in recent years……. Lebron & Chris Bosh joining forces w/ Dwayne Wade was a Very unique situation & even that was 6 years ago now (hard to believe – time flies)……… & then Lebron rejoining Cleveland was also a very special circumstance……

Anyway, Golden State, San Antonio, OKC, Cleveland, Clippers…….. The Top 4 teams currently were ALL built thru hitting Draft Lottery Gold……… or Trades made B/C they hit Lottery Gold….. ie, Wiggins for Love

If Phila hits Lottery Gold & gets Ben Simmons…. & then they pair him w/ Okafor & Embiid for example…… & they Develop those guys into a force ….. remember these guys are ALL under 22 years old…… & then Phila hits on 1 or 2 of the Other TEN (10) 1st round picks they have over the next 4 Drafts…… Next thing you know it’s 2020…… Lebron is 37….. & Phila has a Group of 25 y/o Monsters……… Free Agents who want to win……. like aging Vets or younger NON-Max FA’s Role players….. will Flock to take Phila’s Money b/c it’s Green every where……….

But this Nonsensical idea that Clippers or Cleveland or San Antonio back in the day which was a Joke Franchise before hitting Lottery Gold w/ #1 pick David Robinson & then #1 pick Tim Duncan……. were Built b/c a Super Star FA decided to go there is Crazy & Ridiculous……. The Clippers forunes changed w/ #1 pick Blake Griffin……. Cleveland’s Fortunes changed w/ #1 pick Lebron James;  #1 pick Kyrie Irving & #1 pick Andrew Wiggins…………..

Fill in the Blanks for OKC, Golden State & Every Franchise that has Ever won anything…… The Big 3 Boston put together in 2008 Never happens if they don’t hit on Paul Pierce in the Draft……

So stop w/ the Philly needs a "Max FA" to sign……..  They just need to hit one the Lottery over these next 2 or 3 Drafts…… If you ask me they Already hit in 2014 & 2015…… Saric is a nice player…… Okafor is a future Stud…. & by all accounts Embiid is healthy……. & if Embiid is healthy …… This Kid is a 22 y/o 7’2” Monster…….

so you are saying they best chance is to keep waiting to hit lotto gold until 2020 and they might be good.lol hinkie wishes you were the owner. I don’t know about a championship bout plenty of franchises have landed fa and from shitty to at least good. just look at charlotte.big al lin and decent drafting got them back respectable. id rather be respectable than chase a pipe lottery dream. one its not football so sucking doesn’t get you top pick. two the lotto is a complete crap shoot. I would not recommend stinking to draft the next oden Kwame bennet. even the good ones normally cant just turn a franchise around. g state picked klay and them lottery tail end the mixed in some vets. I think philly should do its best to sign the best fa that are willing to sign with them. get some aminu crowders real pros on the team to go with some of their so called blue chip talent. not sold on saric yet okafor a one trick dude. and embid who knows. but if I guy misses first two years im not betting on them having a long productive career.

stone pieces…… Okafor, Embiid & Simmons (if they get Simmons)…… then surround those players w/ the players they draft between now & then……. They have something like 10 first round picks over the next 4 Draftys (2016 -2019)……….

Believing that you are going to sing Kevin Durant or even Kevin Conley just doesn’t happen……. Every year espn & every other major site writes all these articles about who is a "Max FA" & Where they might go…..

And Every year they go No Where…… B/c the Franchise that Drafted them can pay 20% Over what ANY other Franchise can & they are allowed to Exceed the Salary cap to do so…….. It’s the Larry Bird Rule……

Bradley Beal, Mike Conley, Kevin Durant 3 of the top FA’s will ALL sign w/ the Franchise that Drafted them……

Phila’s Entire plan was Really simple……. they looked at Every NBA Champion since 1947 & someone said …… "Hey this is Interesting – Every Single NBA Chanpion in History was led there by a top 10 Lottery pick – Why don’t we just Tank for 3 years so we can get some high Lottery picks & that will Increase our chances or getting a Franchise Cornerstone Piece……."

This misnomer that Franchise Piece Free Agents switch teams is just Historically Untrue…… That’s my only point…… Shaq being an Unrestricted Free Agent after his Rookie contract in 1996 was a Loophole that has been Closed………

Phila just came within One game of meeting Miami in the Conference Finals in 2012…. W/ players like Thad Young, Jru Holiday & Evan Turner……… but Everyone Knew they could not get Any further w/ o a Star…..

Not a Single Free Agent went to Phila or any other team in that time….. meanwhile Golden State aty the Same time in 2012 just finished their 4th staright Losing season…… But they Drafted Curry, Thompson, Green & Barnes to form the Core of the Chamionship team they have today……….

Should Golden State have Kept Baron Davis & Monte Ellis – won 45 games & hoped to sign an Star Free Agent??? or Traded them, Tanked & built thru the Draft?….. I’d say Historical evdience suggets the latter……

Colangelo is the king of overpaying talented players that overachieved in roles that where complimentary to their production for status quo. He will attract RFA’s and or third tier talents such as a Nicolas Batum (not saying Batum to Philly is a possibility) by overpaying and or offering featuring roles on a depleted roster. As far as a Dear Derozan second tier talent or Kevin Durant first tier there is no possibility he gets a guy that would get the max offered from any team in the league.

yeah they not getting no top guys. but I really think that with some decent vets and not filling out the roster with d leaguers they can be competitive. to me it always good to be competitive. I def think they should have kept iggy turner j holiday. could’ve drafted a guy like green or butler late in first added some quality free agents to play on a good team and who knows how far they get. the Celtics won a championship without tanking matter of fact I cant remember the last team that tanked on purpose won lotto and it led them to a championship. most of the time when you tank you get rid of so much talent to do so that when you add that high pick he just replaces the talent you got rid of. now if you got a bunch of old guys rebuilding is cool I guess. but when you are a middle of the row team the way to get better is not getting rid of your best players. you say they may be good by 2020 they already tanked 3 years. that like 7 years of uncompetitive shitty ball for the chance you may be good one day. I guess if you 14 15 years old you can wait 7 years for that but us grown folk want as quick as a turn around as possible. sign the best players you can get a good coach and hope for draft luck is how you win in this league.

I think the mistake made is that you’re looking at the team as it existed last year.  If they got a top 2 pick, Embiid is reasonably healthy and Saric is the real deal, suddenly this is a very attractive young team.

Harrison Barnes. Colangelo is the type of guy that will overpay somebody and knowing that Barnes wants more than 16M per year, I’m sure he’ll pay him that max money.

Theres really only 1 guy the 76ers need…and he just happens to be a Free Agent. Clues…

    • A Point Guard
    • Never takes a play off
    • Happy to share minutes
    • Proven winner with playoff experience
    • Model citizen off the court
    • Plays tenacious defense and good playmaking skills, with Top-10 3pt%
    • Brings in fans – Home team loves him, Opposition fans hate him
    • Chasing his first big contract and would probably go to Philly for 10m a season

And just in case you can’t guess…just remember
